Eagles sign CFL running back

With Brian Westbrook thinking about retirement, the Eagles need to find some running backs they won’t hand the ball to.

Enter Martell Mallett.

The Eagles signed the 23-year-old Tuesday; he spent 2009 with the CFL’s B.C. Lions, racking up 1,622 yards from scrimmage, including 43 receptions. He won the Most Outstanding Rookie award in Chris Berman’s favorite league.

Mallett played college at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, so it’s not shocking the NFL passed on him. He’s currently behind Westbrook, LeSean McCoy, Leonard Weaver, and Eldra Buckley on the Eagles depth chart.
