Eagles' Jon Dorenbos added to Pro Bowl

Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster, making him the seventh member of the Eagles selected to this year’s Pro Bowl.

Pro Bowl coaches are allowed to add two “need” players, one of whom is typically a long snapper, and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips picked Dorenbos to handle the long snapping for the NFC squad that Phillips will coach. After Chargers coach Norv Turner picked Raiders long snapper Jon Condo, it’s noteworthy that both Pro Bowl coaches picked a player on a division rival.

This is the first Pro Bowl berth of Dorenbos’s eight-year NFL career.

The Eagles are expected to get at least one more spot on the Pro Bowl roster, with quarterback Donovan McNabb replacing either Saints quarterback Drew Brees or Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, whoever can’t play in the Pro Bowl because he’ll be playing in the Super Bowl a week later.

The Saints will win. Which will mean Favre will be in the Pro Bowl. But he’ll say he’s hurt and will have to skip. Then he’ll say he’s OK and playing. Then he’ll be hurt. And so on and so forth until Wade Phillips agrees to pick him up at the airport and drive him to practice.

Congrats, Magic Man! He’s gone from a weakness to a strength on our special teams. Good for him.

I realize the Pro-bowl is a farce (ahem, no Moss?) but why on earth would McNabb go to the Pro-bowl? 3,500 yds, 22 TDs and 10 INTs is hardly Pro-bowl worthy. Obviously Romo had a significantly better year. What a joke

Dorenbos, great guy! Long snappers, and kickers are my favorite group of people in the NFL. Don’t ever want their jobs.

    So, let’s see.
Our offense can’t move the ball, protect the QB, and routinely panics – abandoning the gameplan when we get down 3-0 in the first 5 minutes of games.
Our defense is a turnstile, the we raid local radio stations for key personnel mid-season and endanger the most important player by making him dance in a commercial (aka “Flight Night”). We can’t evaluate talent, letting guys like Dawkins go while replacing him with CFL talent like Macho Harris. We have no pass rush. We have a defense that avoids contact.
We waste timeouts, cannot manage the clock, can’t run a hurry-up. Our drafts are an exercise in feast or famine. We bank the whole off-season on a crazy, lazy offensive lineman…and double down by signing his injured brother and making hm a starter. Neither contributed. We sign Vick, the most controversial player in the league, take a ton of heat for it and never use him.
But wait! Our kicker goes to the Pro Bowl, our kick returner goes to the Pro Bowl, and now our deep snapper goes to the Pro Bowl.
So why did the SPECIAL TEAMS COACH got fired!?!?!? How does that make any sense?

McNabb is the only veteran QB who would want to go play in this joke of a game. He has an inferiority complex so these things matter to him. He revels in faux honors, sometimes I think he feels losing 4 NFC title games (three times as the favorite) is more impressive than winning 1 Super Bowl.
Brady won’t play, he doesn’t need to. he has ACTUAL accomplishments.

As an Eagle fan i agree Romo had a better year!
Who decides on the alt pro bowl selections???
At least Jerry Rice aka 8Miles Austin was selected!

Mooch…you’re an idiot. How about we just blow up our entire team and get a new one. Maybe that’ll make you happy. Stop whining like a girl.
Our team needs tweaking, not an overhaul.
    RELAAAAAX!

Nice to see Dorenbos get his due.
As an Eagle fan it pains me to say it, but Romo should get the QB nod over McNabb.

  10. Cowboy22 says: Jan 20, 2010 11:31 AM

There is a rule that prevented Phillips from selecting his own long snapper. Come on PFT, you guys need to know these things. Your becoming less relevent by the day.

As an Eagle fan I’ll vouch that Romo deserves the probowl over mr. incompetant

  12. badknee says: Jan 20, 2010 12:20 PM

    Mooch,
On behalf of all Eagle fans, please choose another fan to root for.
As a fan you suck more than the Marion Campbell teams.

  13. jkorn1818 says: Jan 20, 2010 12:21 PM

romo or manning deserve the spot over mcnabb…at least romo and mcnabb had some sort of running game this season.

  14. birdmancometh says: Jan 20, 2010 12:22 PM

OK, Romo probably had the better year. HOWEVER (thank you Steven A. Smith), you KNOW the fan portion of the voting was not the reason McNabb got the nod. That means that the coaches/players are the reason. Hard to argue with them isn’t it? And besides…who cares? It’s the freakin Pro Bowl.

  15. birdmancometh says: Jan 20, 2010 12:29 PM

“relax” isn’t the right word kssj4. That is the kind of moron that gives Eagle fans a bad name. “Go Away” is much more applicable.

  16. gopher says: Jan 20, 2010 12:34 PM

Mike, I believe that after these Sunday’s game the NFL will have to find a lot more players to play in the Pro Bowl because a lot of them will bow out for one reason or another. I know everybody thinks Favre would not play and I’m sure they are right but there will be a bunch of others.

  17. ThheVet700 says: Jan 20, 2010 12:48 PM

I hope McNabb does get to go to the Pro Bowl. So when the Eagles go to trade him they can say we have a Pro Bowl QB would you like to make a deal.
That being said the NFL Pro-Bowl is the biggest joke since the battle of the network stars (I just dated myself). Some all-star games have something on the line (MLB home field in the world series) and at least the NBA and NHL make it exciting. And they all have some type of skills contested the night before. All the Pro-Bowl is, is just another way for the NFL to rake in some more gate,TV and merchandise money. If you want to see a better game next weekend watch the senior bowl. At least they are playing for their future. The sad part about this new formate is that its going to produce more Pro- Bowlers. Making the term Pro-Bowl player as common as dirt.

I don’t believe voting has anything to do w/ Alts. Pretty sure the respective coaches pick them– that said, I’m not sure that Wade is allowed to select a player from his own team. But Manning and Warner also had better years than The Wormburner.
But yeah, Pro-bowl is nonsense anyway.

  19. Route36West says: Jan 20, 2010 1:18 PM

They will probly have 9 when its all said and done. I think either Woodson or whats his name from the Vikings that was just added will pull out b/c of injury allowed Sheldon Brown to take his place.
Its more like 9 1/2 b/c Desean made it twice but felt bad for Harvin so he donated his returning job.

  20. Mooch says: Jan 20, 2010 1:19 PM

I agree, all our problems have been solved by the firing of the ST coach.
We will go 16-0 next year.
    Happy now?

  21. Mooch says: Jan 20, 2010 1:22 PM

What did I state that isn’t true?
    Time’s yours.

  22. Thingamajig says: Jan 20, 2010 1:38 PM

Mooch….. you seem to be the only Eagles fan that makes sense.

  23. birdmancometh says: Jan 20, 2010 1:57 PM

OK Mooch, i’ll bite. Here is what you said that isn’t true:
    1) Offense that can’t move the ball (what season did you watch?)
    2) Defense is a turnstile (Inconsistant maybe)
    3) Should they wrap Bradley in bubble wrap? How is his injury the teams fault?
    4) Macho having CFL talent (you really think he doesn’t belong on an NFL roster at all?)
    5) We have no pass rush (have you looked at the stats this season?)
    6) Why did the ST coach get fired? Because they had a chance to sign a guy that is widely regarded as the best at what he does. Besides, did you not watch all the ST penalties this season?
You are probably just some 15 year old punk who has only been a fan of the team for the past ten years. You don’t understand what it’s like to watch Rich Kotite destroy your team. Sure, it’s all Andy’s fault. We would be so much better off if we just hired a new coach every 2 years. Hell, it works for the Raiders, Browns, Lions, ect…
You don’t know how good you have it.

  24. TRAMO says: Jan 20, 2010 3:33 PM

YEA Mcflab is a good political correct addition to the probowl, but not earned!

  25. Whiterhino says: Jan 20, 2010 4:25 PM

“So why did the SPECIAL TEAMS COACH got fired!?!?!? How does that make any sense?”
Because Daisher might have been good (arguably, was there two ST plays in a row that the Eagles DIDN’T get a penalty on this season?) but April is apparently great.

  26. PhonyRomo says: Jan 21, 2010 12:55 PM

    birdmancometh:
Regarding your reasoning as to why the Eagles hired April, if they were to apply that to all our coaches then should they not also fire AR and hire Cowher because he is widely regarded as one of the best?
I don’t disagree with the April hiring, however I also don’t believe Daisher should be singled out for the abundance of ST penalties.
