Redskins boast "punter-proof" video boards

In the neighborhood, the material possessions collection game is called keeping up with the Joneses.

In the NFL, the game has the same title.

And Redskins owner Daniel Snyder will be keeping up with the Jerry Joneses by installing two new 100-foot HD video screens in each end zone of FedEx Field.

The team also is boasting that the state-of-the-art LED displays are “punter-proof,” a dig at the District 9 mother ship that hangs over the floor of Cowboys Stadium.

“Dan Snyder asked us to identify the technologies that would deliver a spectacular game-day experience to fans,” COO David Donovan said.  “These upgrades to true HD video boards and control room will allow us to carry high-quality, multiple-angle replays, live game action and game graphics, as well as more frequent out-of-town scores.”

Of course, the most spectacular game-day experience for the home fans would be consistent victories by the home teams.

But, hey, at least they’ll have the video boards.

Those 3-and-outs and Campbell Interceptions will look fantastic in large screen HD.
Just imagine their “Trick FG Play” on those screens.

with that product they put on the field do the fans really need to see it replayed over and over again is 100″ HD?

Sounds like ole pretzel boy is making a case for season ticket reuping earlier than usual. I can hear that sales pitch now…

that is funny XLI. You have to have highlights to show them. Actually, the opposing team will have all the highlights. lmao.

yeah right….how about reruns of Riggins rumbling down the field…..should be a lot more fun than the game down on the field.

Wow…I just hate Dan Snyder more and more every time I hear what he’s spending his money on. We get it, dude. You are a multi-millionaire. But honestly…$100 million for Haynesworth? Two huge screens just to one-up Jerry Jones? You’re wasting your money, and you’re looking like an idiot while you do it.

  9. hurls187 says: Jan 20, 2010 2:16 PM

punter-proof? give me a break. what losers. hmm… how many times did the video board in dallas get hit by a punt in an actual game, where the punters were trying to make good punts and not intentionally trying to hit the board??? can’t remember any, huh?? because it didn’t happen at all. give me a break. the redskins are and always will be jealous of the cowboys.

  14. WarrenMoonGOAT says: Jan 20, 2010 2:33 PM

well ofcourse its punter proof when they’ll both screens will be opposite of each other in the back of the endzone…duhhhh

  15. isonic1 says: Jan 20, 2010 2:40 PM

Well, I’m not sure it’s not necessarily all a one up to Jerry Jones. The jumbo-trons (if you even can call them that) at Fedex field were tiny and sucked a ton (kinda like their on field product). They were even nicknamed Lite Brites for how small they were. These new screens will basically be the same size as whats at the Eagles stadium.

  16. mooremi9 says: Jan 20, 2010 2:42 PM

You know what they say about people who have to buy big things……….oh Danny 2 100 foot TV screens are not going to make up for your wifes lack of satisfaction in the bedroom.
Maybe you should invest in a personal extension

The Cowboys board was punter -proof all year, even after Florio tried to project is as being otherwise. Now look how idiotic he looks with The Eag’s being swept and him having been wrong (again) about the biggest HD tv in the world.
Danny-Boy will need something other than HD TV to excite fans after 4-12 and perennial cellar-dwellin’.
Keepin’ up with JJ ? You have GOT to be kiddin me. JJ’s HD is 60 yards long.

  20. Treima says: Jan 20, 2010 2:54 PM

Good. Judging by their performance last year, there will be plenty of punters willing to put their claims to the test.

    Are you from “Spinal Tap”?
    100″ = 100 inches. 100′ = 100 feet.
Then again, with the way the Redskins play, maybe a 100″ screen is better…

  22. Otm Shank says: Jan 20, 2010 3:04 PM

In all seriousness, if they want to improve in game experience, stop blasting commercials during TV time outs and show scores from around the league.

  23. Terry Hesticles says: Jan 20, 2010 3:10 PM

This not keeping up with JJ. No will match that size screen. Cowboys Stadium is amazing.
It is catching up with everyone…this upgrade is 5-10 years behind most stadiums.
This is the first time I think Dan Snyder is not wasting his money.
And yes the 3 and outs will look good on that screen…very good.

FU, you stupid SOB. How about you do some research?? The Cowboys did NOT move the board up. Go make something up somewhere else, d-bag.

  25. Nick says: Jan 20, 2010 3:24 PM

If you’ve ever been to FedEx Field, you’ll understand why Snyder is doing this. The video board there is SO outdated, and the animations take me back to Three Rivers Stadium in the early 90′s cheering on the Pirates.

“It is catching up with everyone…this upgrade is 5-10 years behind most stadiums.”
Its more like those boards in FedEx were obsolete before the stadium hosted its first game. Those video boards helped in my decision not to go to any Skins game anymore until LiL Danny started improving the gameday experience. The only thing cool about them was the football player they put up when a big play was needed on Defense. That guy got played a lot unfortunetly.
And I guess this means the Skins will be playing in FedEx for the foreseable future. There was a small sliver of hope that LiL Danny would try and one up PigFace Jones and push to build a new stadium in D.C. No shot of that happening until these video boards are payed off. By that time it will be time to move out of FedEx.

  28. cowboyz says: Jan 20, 2010 3:32 PM

Wow – Skins fans get dumber by the day. Jerry did NOT move the board. It was raised temporarily for the U2 concert.
    How Bout ‘Em!!

  29. Marky McFly says: Jan 20, 2010 3:35 PM

Well, Jerry jones did in fact move the board up, but it was only about 3 or so feet up I believe. Even before he moved t only one punter was able to hit it ( while trying to hit it).

If you have ever been to Fed Ex Field, which many people do not make it too…because it takes 3 days to get there if you live a mile away because of the stupid traffic that snarls in. As for punter proof…how about all the seats Danny boy added that have their vision of the field blocked by columns. And when fans complained…he sued them. Keep riding Jerry’s jock Danny Boy…your a little bitch and you shake hands like a woman!!

Uhh, if you really are from the area, you’d know that JKC built this stadium…. not Snyder. He was the one who placed a stadium in a terrible location without proper infrastructure for parking and commuting. He was the one who created a horrid fan experience. Snyder is an ass, but you cannot blame FedEx on him.

Right, because once Snyder finalizes his plans to buy RFK and the Armory, then tears them down and builds a billion dollar stadium….. He’s going to be worried about a couple of screens?

    Hey richturpin,
No they DIDN’T move the boards before the season.
Why don’t you do your research before you call others out. The only time it was moved was for the U2 concert, then it was placed back to its original height.
    You suck at life.

  36. Marky McFly says: Jan 20, 2010 3:55 PM

It was temporary, but either way it didn’t matter…nobody was going to hit it and no one did. As it is painfully obvious, Florio hates the cowboys.

To all of you people bashing this move you obviously have never seen the current screens. I am a season ticket holder and those things are tiny. I can not see any replays they actually show on them at all. This was long over due. Every season people in my sections complain about those stupid tiny screens.

  44. Sociofan says: Jan 20, 2010 5:10 PM

Wow Florio, you sure did set up the Skins for a punting attack with this article. Just left them hanging out there like a District 9 mother ship inside the Death Star itself. Good thing there are no Ray Guys hanging out in here.

  45. CanadianVikingFan says: Jan 20, 2010 5:23 PM

Can you watch other games on the screen instead of replays of the Redskin game? After all when the Lions beat you, you really don’t need to see it again on the big screen.
*Oh and I hope the Lions do well, I don’t hate them. I wish them the best of luck. So no slight on you guys*

  46. Handswarmer says: Jan 20, 2010 6:05 PM

    To all Loser Redskin Fans:
The screen was never moved from the time that the douche bag rookie punter from tennessee hit it because it was the highlight of his life.
The redskins are the worst nfl franchise in the last 10 years with the lions.
The cowboys own you in games, super bowls and anything else you want to bring up.
If your going to bring up the minnesota loss, please tell us where the redskins were the last 2 weeks dallas was playing playoff games.
Last, your owner is a little bitch who shakes hands like a woman, and the tv’s he installed will only brainwash you into thinking that paying 100 million dollars for 1 player is a good idea…LOSERS!

So you are telling me that no Punter was told to be careful about hitting the Big Screens in Dallas because there Gunners would be gased. Please. To the person that said that Snyder was making up for a lack of something. What is Jerry making up for a lack of if he has to build a stadium that is worth more than a BILLION dollars?

  51. SkinsDan says: Jan 22, 2010 5:46 AM

@nationscapital (and all other Cowboy’s fan morons)
“your a little bitch and you shake hands like a woman!!”
A frighteningly large percentage of individuals fail to understand the difference between the words “you’re” and “your”. Here is a quick and dirty crash course on this common usage problem.
    Step 1
Understand the proper usage of the word you’re. It is a contraction, or a combination of, the words you and are. Other examples of contractions include doesn’t, they’re, and can’t.
“You’re a good friend.” (“YOU ARE a good friend.”)
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” (“I don’t know what YOU ARE talking about.”)
    Step 2
Understand the proper usage of the word your. The word your is the possessive form of you, referring to something that a person has, or something that belongs to the person in discussion [or, the person you are talking to].
    “Is your stomach growling?”
“Your book is on the table

  52. StarInWV says: Jan 29, 2010 9:06 AM

yes, J Jones did raise the scoreboard to 100′ off the field for the U2 concert, but lowered back to 85′ all per league rules. All the Cowboys games were played with the scoreboard at 85′.
