The always-evolving list of 2010 Pro Bowlers has two more names on it: Saints center Jonathan Goodwin and Giants wide receiver Steve Smith.
Goodwin was added to the roster as an injury replacement for Cowboys center Andre Gurode. With guard Jahri Evans and tackle Jon Stinchcomb already on the squad, the Saints now have three offensive linemen on the NFC Pro Bowl team. At least, they do for now: They’ll all miss the Pro Bowl if the Saints play in the Super Bowl.
Smith is an injury replacement for Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. And although many players at this time of year treat the Pro Bowl like a chore they hope to avoid, Smith sounded genuinely thrilled to be chosen for the first time.
“I’m really excited about playing in the Pro Bowl,” Smith said. “It’s truly an honor to be recognized by the fans, coaches and players as one of the best in the league.”
Smith led the NFC in catches in 2009 with 107.
Smith deserved this. With 58 third down receptions as well, he did a great job and had a pro bowl caliber year.
And if everyone who got selected to the pro bowl had the same attitude as Steve Smith does, I’m sure more people would watch it.
Smith should have made it in the first place.
I was amazed that Smith wasn’t on the team in the first place. How does a guy who leads the NFC in receptions, is third in yardage, has 7 receiving TDs and zero fumbles not in the Pro Bowl? The voting is such a sham…
Florio, I know MDS wrote this one, but Florio please please spare us from an hourly update on who’s out and who’s in as a replacement for the Pro Bowl.
It’s getting to be like the player fines posts during the regular season, too many, too often and TMI.
Nobody cares about the Pro Bowl except players who are playing in their first one.
Just do a weekly update if you feel a need to update it.
Right there class act. Not like that Jackson kid on the Seagulls.
That’s great about the Saints but hopefully they won’t be able to play due to preparation for there next game.
Smith should have been picked for starters
He had the best year of any in the NFC and he was clutch when needed
Also the rest of the WR were 1st or 2nd year so he stepped up and carried the team on his back
I don’t understand how Smith was an alternate. Intangibles, or stats beyond the current ones just aint cuttin it. But, w/e. I mean, Eli can be a credible pro bowler.
