Reports persist of Raiders interest in Jim Harbaugh

As the Raiders deny that they have commenced the process of interviewing potential replacements for head coach Tom Cable, reports continue to persist that the Raiders are exploring possible upgrades.

Adam Schefter of ESPN hasn’t backed off his claims that the Raiders gauged the interest of Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.  Jason La Canfora of NFL Network says that the Raiders have made overtures to Harbaugh via the “back channels.”

And Bay Area media guy Rich Lieberman insists that Harbaugh has met with Davis, and Lieberman suggests that a four-year, $20 million offer could get the deal done.

So stay tuned.  Though Cable might survive, there are plenty of people who think that one of the factors will be whether they can get the replacement that they want.

Possibly, they want Harbaugh.

Never going to happen for $20M. Davis has a history of paying players too well, and coaches too little.

Harbaugh is too smart to sign on to this mess of a franchise unless he has somehow confirmed that Davis is committed to changing.

I’m rooting for a better draft pick next year, so pick someone terrible!

Hey, it’s not like the Raiders know how to draft 1st round picks.

And the comedy continues. You know this is the same Adam Schefter that didn’t back off of reports that Tom Cable physically abused Randy Hanson earlier this year too. We saw how that worked out. I believe Florio jumped on his bandwagon then too. If I remember correctly, pretty much all of you media goons were calling for his firing then too, not to mention suspension from the NFL too. Then immediately after he was cleared of that, ESPN reports on him beating his ex-wives years before. Obviously there is an agenda here.

You are those people Florio!! Al Davis is laughing his ass off right now!! Along with the rest of the Raider Nation.

Why would Harbaugh take a step (multiple steps) backwards by going from Stanford to Oak?

Its going to happen. Everyone keeps talking about Cable’s ties with Hue Jackson and why JAckson will be Cable’s OC next year.
BUT, Jackson worked with HArbaugh’s brother in Baltimore. It is very possible that Baltimore sign off on JAckson going to interview in Oakland because Older Harbaugh reccomended JAckson to Little Harbaugh. There is a connection there. It makes a ton of sense.

Harbaugh is a Davis guy. He was here as an assistant and he and Davis have always kept in communication ever since. It was assumed between the two that Harbaugh would leave to go get coaching experience elsewhere, and eventually come back to coach the Raiders. I’m not surprised, but it seems a little early.
Now try and report facts Gloyhole, not speculation and your usual swings and misses.

Oh’ wait nevermind too late for that…..!

Taking the Raiders job didn’t hurt a young Gruden or Kiffin’s careers. Quite the contrary. There is absolutely no downside to taking any head NFL gig, even if you have to deal with the idiot Al-batross Davis.

Isn’t stuff like this always done through “back channels” in the Bay Area? HEY-O.

  14. ChrisJohnsonEnglishProfessor says: Jan 21, 2010 10:26 AM

Not gonna happen, but I wouldn’t be against it. I would like to keep Cable though. If only Al could get Harbaugh and move Cable to the O-line. And sign Jackson too… Too bad it will never happen.
    Hey Al,
    Just Die Baby!

……OK OJ juror. No one proved Cable didn’t hit Hanson, they just decided not to prosecute him because Davis’ minions refuse to tell the truth.
And “Weekend at Bernies” Davis might be laughing his ass off, but that’s because he’s senile. Raider Nation certainly isn’t laughing as most of them are picking up trash along the highway in orange jumpsuits

I just hope that the inevitable return to the top is sooner rather than later. Cable has the locker room, and with this team, I’m not sure I would tamper with that. It has been 8 years since a Head Coach demanded respect from these players, and at least that’s a start.
I dealt with post AIDS Lakers and post Shaq Lakers, 80′s Yankees (and most of 00′s), and still dealing with the Silver and Black. I say that just to emphasize that history rich and traditionally successful franchises find their way back to the pinnacle. Why it is taking the Raiders so long is a mystery. Mitch Kupchak and George Steinbrenner faced similar scrutiny that Al is under, and rightfully so, but as soon as the turn around happened, the doubters were silenced.
So my fellow residents of RaiderNation; be strong, be patient, and know your history. Only fans of 6 other teams (49ers, Boys, Steelers, Skins, Giants and Pats) have an argument to claim the most glorious football history thus far.
No JaLattinous Russell or DHB style picks (yeah right) going forward and the return to greatness is close at hand!

savagenation …you sound like a bitter San Diego Chocker fan……
Well Cable finished this season he was asked if he would be back and he said yes….so far when he has made these types of statments to the media they have been 100 percent correct…

  18. AutumnWind999 says: Jan 21, 2010 11:42 AM

That’s a lot of money for a guy who’s had one OK season at Stanford.

  19. ChrisJohnsonEnglishProfessor says: Jan 21, 2010 11:53 AM

Cables made of teflon. Al tried to fire him, but it wouldn’t stick… Thats a terrible joke that makes no sense. I’m sorry. I typed it and can’t untype it

  20. Silverdog says: Jan 21, 2010 12:01 PM

If Davis sticks with Russell it won’t matter who the coach is. That decision is the real key to the immediate fortune of the Raiders. Everything else pales in comparison….coaches, blocking schemes, draft, OL, DL, everything.

    @ Tv
Wow that is a pretty ignorant comment.. The last time i checked there was 7 TEAMS that are a step back from the Raiders record wise. Is our owner dysfunctional ?? Yes.. Get over it
Did a Raider fan take your cookies when you were a kid or what??? Stanford isnt even relevent in a weak Pac 10 conference.. Oregon, Washington, Berkeley, and Of course USC are all a step above Stanford. Heck.. 20 mil/ 4 yrs might even be enough to get Gruden back in Silver and Black.. Just win Baby

  22. Tdk24 says: Jan 21, 2010 12:36 PM

I like Cable. But, I like Jim too. I wouldn’t mind seeing Jim come in as long as he gets to finish out his contract or does well and get’s an extension. We need a coach to be here for 5 years or so to see what happens. Jim was a gutsy smart QB in the modern era, he could be just what JaBust needs to turn himself around. Let’s go get the Comeback Kid!

  23. downsouth49er says: Jan 21, 2010 12:52 PM

Al davis needs to just make himself the coach and be done with it. He’s never going to keep a coach and build a winning franchise again because he simply thinks that his current team has all the weapons to make a superbowl run immediately. Give me a break, the Raiders are a joke.

You want CONCRETE PROOF before Florio can report stories on his own website? Just read the AP wire – idiot.
This is a news AND rumors website. Plus, it’s HIS website that HE built. He can report anything he damn wishes. Harbaugh going to Oakland is certainly a more than a rumor since ESPN and NFL network have reported that discussions have taken place behind the scenes.
For all you Florio haters – if you don’t like the content of this website- feel free to (a) start your own website, or better yet (2) leave.

  25. tango says: Jan 21, 2010 1:15 PM

Not going to happen ! Harbaugh way to smart to get tangled up with dead Al and that idiot Herrera. Things are good on the farm at Stanford. When HC position opens up at Michgan, maybe, if not Harbaugh will wait until a credible NFL franchise HC position opens up. Can you imagine Harbaugh trying to have an intelligent conversation with JaJunk on how to be an NFL caliber QB ? Maybe raider55 can chime in ?

  26. theTRUTHwillSETuFREE says: Jan 21, 2010 1:28 PM

@savagenation- First of all, there were 3 other coaches in the room that said that didn’t happen either. 2nd the fact that Hanson never filed a civil suit against him is proof positive that nothing happened. All that BS that you obviously bought into, was put out there by your home boys Adam Schefter, and Mike Florio. Which like now, they were obviously wrong about. Keep drinking the kool-aide, I will continue to laugh my ass off at all you Haters out there.
@Downsouth49er-Hilarious to hear a 49er fan call the Raiders a Joke…….are you serious. You’ve had 1 non losing season in the last 8 years. We know what our problem is(the big guy upstairs)whats your excuse? Not to mention you guys are playing in the worst division in the NFL.
You and Savage need to hang out together, you both sound like little whiner fans. Worry about your own teams!

  27. TylerDurden says: Jan 21, 2010 1:28 PM

Who cares if the Raiders are interested in Harbaugh. We need more stories about the fourth consecutive epic failure of the Chargers in the post season. Oh, oh, oh, AJ’s cry’an…

  28. 1nationraidernation says: Jan 21, 2010 3:04 PM

btw, BSPN, is still BSPN, and gimme a break on 20 million for 4 years. Harbaugh barley makes a million a year on a farm, If Leslie Frazier defense shuts down the saints this weekend, he is a lock for the job.

If you scroll down, Lieberman guessed at the numbers:
    Rich Lieberman said…
I wrote on the 9th, (check the archives) that the Raiders and Mr. Davis should pursue and hire Jim Harbaugh. Just my opinion, taking off my “reporter” hat…Do I know for sure that he met with AD? No, I was relying on a very good source that has some knowledge of the situation… the “4 and 20″ was a guess on my part because remember, it was the Raiders org. that offered Bobbie Petrino a 5-year, $15M contract that he initially ok’d back in 2006, but then balked out…It’s no secret that Harbaugh wants to coach in the NFL and that he previously worked for the Raiders on ’02-’03 as QB coach. I laugh when I hear the so-called “experts” say he’d “never” take the Raiders job. Maybe. Maybe not. I do know he has interest and that he loves the Bay Area and his Stanford gig is short-term. I’ll leave it at that.

Yeah, Florio stated that “something must be done” about Cable when all that shit was flying. When none of it stuck, Our Man Mike didn’t have the stones to own it. Kind of an odd thing for a lawyer to say in the first place….
