Cribbs’ agent says talks with Browns are progressing

Two weeks after Browns receiver and return man Joshua Cribbs said he’s finished in Cleveland, his agent said they’re having “very positive” talks with the team.

“We’ve talked to [Browns President] Mike Holmgren and [General Manager] Tom Heckert and we have an understanding that we’re going to work together on this,” Cribbs’ agent, J.R. Rickert, told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We have a much clearer indication that something can be worked out and that it’s not just lip service.”

Cribbs previously said that the Browns had given him a take-it-or-leave-it deal, and that he wasn’t going to take it. In fact, Cribbs said he’d rather sit out altogether than accept the contract offer the Browns had given him.

But Rickert said Holmgren and Heckert “made it clear to us that they had not made a take-it-or-leave-it proposition or a final offer,” adding that “Josh feels very good about it.”

So in two weeks, Cribbs has gone from saying he’s done in Cleveland to feeling “very good” about the Browns. If that much progress can be made in two weeks, it’s probably safe to say Cribbs will be there when the Browns open training camp in six months.
