Put pressure on Brees and they might have a shot but they still have to stop the run. Teams have had trouble getting to Brees all season because he gets rid of the ball very quickly. The pressure got to Romo, he held the ball too long and he thought he could use his mobility to escape. Brees is totally different.
Healthwise the Saints defense is back to where they were during the first half of the season. It is very hard to beat anyone when the D is playing with third string players and people off of the street. Look at the Vikings D when EJ Henderson went out. Just imagine for a second how they would play if they lost Henderson, BOTH starting corners, and Kevin or Pat Williams all at once. That is what the Saints have been going through the last half of the season. That is why they struggled to stop subpar teams. It is a different animal on defense with the starters back. Favre better know where Sharper is before he just hangs one out there.
I think it will be a close game with two teams that deserve to play for the chance to go the SB.

Well, I’m not an NFL coach or analyst, but if you ask me, I would be much more concerned with these stats. New Orleans had more INT’s than Minny had total take aways. You can marinate on that one for a bit. You can have the yards, I’ll take the INT’s!

Interesting fact about all of those INTS for NO. Of the 26, 19 were against first or second year QBs, or in their first start. Stafford-1st start -3 INTs, Kolb-1st start-3 INTs, Sanches-4th start-3 INTs, Henne-4th start-2 INTs, Freeman-3rd & 8th starts-3 & 2 INTs. Conversely, they got only a total of 6 against veterans E Manning, Brady, Romo, Bulger, (even) J Campbell, C Redman and Jake (INT machine) Delhomme.
Favre is a veteran!

Minnesota beat Dallas, Dallas beat New Orleans. Arizona beat Minnesota, New Orleans beat Arizona. IT DOESN’T MATTER!
Both these teams are good. They both deserve to be where they are. They have strengths to lead them to victory and weaknesses that can cause defeat. Let’s hope both teams are healthy and play their best and give us all a hell of a game to enjoy!

Saint33, you proved my point exactly. They couldn’t defend against teams with poor passing attacks.
Matt Moore (who?) had 299 yards passing, 3 TDs.
Jay Cutler had 273 Yards, 4 TDs.
Warner had 285 yards, 3 TDS.
And you are correct, Big Ben had only 175 yards and a TD, but he had 2 throws over 40 yards.
My point is exactly what I said before, if the Vikes can’t get pressure on Brees, it’s over. The Vikes secondary cannot match up with elite receivers.
I agree this will be a very good game, but Vikings fans need to remeber that Romo is no Brees.
Add on top of this that the Vikings have not played well on the road, and it’s looking like a tough game for them to win. I know they can score points, but they will probably be playing catch-up most of the game.

You are right.We are both great teams,anything can happen.For the record,I am 100% a Viking,want my team to kill you.Want the SB. Nice stats too. I’m bored at work, so here are a few that mean a little bit more than just a YPG Defensive ranking:
Minny Defense Rank #6 with 305 YPG
Saints Defence Rank #25 with 357 YPG
Hmm…52 YPG difference. Funny what you learn when you actually read the stats and not just the ranking. 52 yeards separates #6 from #25, so lets not get too excited about that one.

and smithysmitherson, what a terrible post. Since when do the Bears and Panthers have huge passing attacks? And the Vikings shut Big Ben down in the Steelers game, it was the terrible tripping call and 2 freak defensive TDs that won them that game. Your post is just basically, look, the Vikings lost to these teams, hahaha saints win. I mean the Saints lost to Tampa Bay for christ sake, AT HOME. Bringing up other team’s losses isn’t going to prove anything.
Both these teams are solid, and it’s basically a coin toss at this point. This is a very exciting game, which will likely come right down to the wire.

Screw the comparative games and 2009 regular season statistics, the real factors influencing the game, other than the Superdome crowd, are the knee injuries to Edwards, Kevin Williams and Leber, Winfield’s busted foot, and Harvin’s migranes. With those guys limited or out, the Vikes are going to have a tough time winning this game.

The vikes have been able to consistently stop big time passing attacks this year to win games.
They beat:
Dallas
The Steel… oh nevermind
The Bear… oh nevermind
The Cardina…. oh nevermind
The Panth… oh nevermind
If the Brees has time, the Vikes are done for. Their secondary can not match up with the Saints WR corps.
If you want to play the “This team beat that team and we beat this team so we are better than that team” game, then take a look at the way the Cardinals disposed of the Vikings and then the way the Saints disposed of the Cardinals. Doesn’t bode well then does it?

You may want to look at the numbers again… AP Over 1300 yards rushing, over 400 yards receiving and 18 TDs on an offense that has many other weapons. BF 4,200 yards, only 7 int, rating of 107, less that 2 points behind Breeze… sounds real overrated.
Bet you said the same thing before the Dallas game too. How did that turn out?

Oh and its Favre not Farve….seeing he has accomplished more than a majority of NFL quarterbacks ever do its hard to say he is over rated.
