Source: Pees has something else lined up

So why are the Broncos suddenly in line to hire Wink Martindale’s kid brother to run the defense in Denver?

Per a league source, top choice Dean Pees has agreed to coach elsewhere.  Pees most recently served as defensive coordinator in New England.

We don’t know where Pees will land, but we’re working on it.  Our source is being a little difficult.

Wow. The Broncos are now a cancer in the NFL. Congrats McDumb.

It’s gotta be Buffalo. He’s from the area. He runs a 3-4, which Gailey wants to run. And how sweet would beating the Pats be for him?

He’s on his way to Buffalo if he isn’t there already.

Bills or Chiefs……but my source said that a dark horse could be Carolina…. he doesn’t have to be a DC as he’s open to a less involved role due to a variety of personal reasons

    Sounds like a kidney stone.

Amazing. If Pees chooses the Bills over the Broncos, that says more about Denver than anything. Think about this….Chan Gailey and the Bills is more appealing than McDirty and the Broncos. That says it all. The Bills? Come on. The Bills are a joke. It was not that long ago….like…uh…a year ago that the Broncos were a very respected franchise in the NFL. That seems to be fading quickly. The Broncos don’t really resemble the Raiders as much as the resemble the Browns now. The Browns have had decent talent at recent points but the franchise has been run into the ground by poor management. Denver is walking right down this path. I do think Bowlen is a great owner and he won’t stay with Mcd if he has another season like this next year. This guy only gets a third year if he wins next year, otherwise he’ll be gone and he’ll have a hard time getting another NFL gig. It’s really going to take years to get the Broncos back to respectability. I honestly think they’re going to miss the playoffs for quite a while.

Its Buffalo. Amazing how knowledgable fans know more than many sports writers these days.

The Bills won’t be calling press conferences for this position hire, will they(Pees or not)? It would be nice if they were swift in hiring who they want for assistants. Maybe they are waiting for position coaches in playoff teams to hire as DC/OC.

    Sounds like the Buffalo Bills.

I’ll bet your source will be much more agreeable and open with information after you publicly talk about how difficult he is.

  22. magsdad1 says: Jan 23, 2010 4:11 PM

So, McDaniels chooses not to hire Pees because he is 60, has been in poor health for the past few years; Martindale is 45, interviews and becomes the frontrunner from both the interview and from recommendations from the players, not to mention that he would represent continuity, and McDaniels is a dufus?
Pees goes to Buffalo, where he is from, has family there, and is a DIRECT rival of the team that just fired him.
McDaniels is the fall guy for just about everything that happens to his team, every other team, and anything else people search for. Its pathetic.

  23. markde says: Jan 23, 2010 4:23 PM

It Pees is a new bills coach that would be a great get by gailey

  24. Southcoastmass says: Jan 23, 2010 4:39 PM

Pees is a terrible DC. He should be a position coach at most.

@magsdad1. I agree with you on McD always being the fall guy, but everything else in your post is just plain incorrect.
    a) Pees in from Ohio, NOT Buffalo.
    b) Pees was NOT fired, he had an opportunity to renew his contract and he chose not to because he didn’t want to be there anymore.
    c) Pees is NOT in poor health. He HAD cancer, but is now cancer free. Also his trip to the hospital at the end of the season was an isolated incidence and not an ongoing condition.
    PLEASE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

  28. Richm2256 says: Jan 23, 2010 5:34 PM

Let Pees go to Buffalo, PLEASE!!!!!! He totally sucked for the Patriots, one year and out. Does anyone think if he sucked here, he’s going to have success in Denver or Beefalo?

  29. geek says: Jan 23, 2010 5:55 PM

Wait, did I hear a rumor he’s replacing Cable in Oakland? Stop this stupid rumor-mongering already!!!

  30. Pantherfan10 says: Jan 23, 2010 6:05 PM

Just throwing this out their but since the guy is from Ohio and the whole Mangini-New England connection. What about the guy landing in Cleveland? Cleveland is a 3-4 team…

  31. JJCheesehead says: Jan 23, 2010 6:49 PM

you could line half the guys up in a row on this site and i would just like to run them all down with a dump truck.

Where are people getting that this guy sucked or sucks? Do you people know stats or what? The numbers speak for themselves. Consider that his last year (if not two years) as the Pat’s DC was with rookies!
