Lito Sheppard may get benched

The first time the Jets and Colts played, Austin Collie ran Jets cornerback Lito Sheppard ragged. Collie may not get a second chance to do it Sunday.

The New York Daily News writes that Sheppard is expected to be dropped out of New York’s base defense Sunday. Sheppard reportedly told people during the week he didn’t know what role he would have.

Rich Cimini expects Sheppard to be active, but relegated to nickel or dime duty. If he’s New York’s fourth cornerback, he won’t be on the field that much.

Dwight Lowery is the most likely candidate to replace Sheppard.

New York’s secondary depth will be tested Sunday; Pierre Garcon wasn’t even available the last time these two teams played.
