Vikings bring "pants on the ground" guy to New Orleans

A famous songwriter is hanging out with the Vikings in New Orleans.  And it’s not Prince, who penned a pathetic rallying cry that sounds like the product of the sour belchings of organ pipes.

Instead, it’s General Larry Platt, the creator of “pants on the ground.”

Platt, 62, performed the song less than two weeks ago on American Idol.  Vikings quarterback Brett Favre chanted the refrain in the locker room after Minnesota upended the Cowboys last Sunday.

A reader tells us that Greg Coleman of KFAN has reported that Platt will be on the sidelines today with the Vikings.  Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Platt has made an appearance at a team meeting.

Somewhere, Prince has a mildly pissed off look on his face.

But don’t feel bad, Vikings.  Prince always looks that way.

UPDATEHere’s the video of Platt’s performance, as captured by Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie’s video camera.

SECOND UPDATE:  Here’s tight end Visanthe Shiancoe with Platt.  We wonder whether Platt serenaded Shiancoe with a special version of the song, “towel on the ground.”

Maybe if Brat had chanted the song BEFORE the Vikings win it would make sense. But he didn’t. It’ll be pretty interesting in the Vikes locker room if they lose and have that American Idol tool hanging around. It would be a fitting end to the season.

Hahaha, that’s the lamest thing I’ve ever heard. Leave it to a bunch of midwestern yokels.

Those buttons that Larry Platt was wearing was in support of a cop killer named Troy Davis. Troy was convicted of killing off-duty Savannah Police Officer Marc Macphail.
I’m sure the Vikes had no idea but this probably won’t sit to well with some.

I was thinking of calling my wager specalist (I don’t call him a bookie, cause i doubt he has ever seen a book, much less open one), but this game is just to hard to predict, but now that the “pants on the ground” guy will be on the sideline, i gotta go with the Vikes. Now if “the artist who doesn’t look like a man” was on the sidelines, i’d go with the Saints. Pretty sound betting strategy huh. LOL

If they win he is going to Miami too – 2 weeks that guy singing that song. sigh

I remember when Hammer ala “Too Legit to Quit” joined the Atlanta Falcons. He was such a motivator and catalyst that it led to an absolute devastating lopsided game leaving the team crushed completely. That is, the Falcons. Crushed by the Redskins. Seat pads flooded the field of the stadium. Then again, the Falcons were begging for a beating coming into that game. Larry Platt is hardly Hammer.

we all know what happens to teams that rely on gimmicks. . .

And after listening to Gen. Larry Platt sing “Pants on the Ground,” Percy Harvin started throwing up. Team physicians haven’t determined if it’s another onset of migranes or just a reaction from listening to Platt.

You can not be serious… Ziggy could have brought a cripple or something to the game, and this is what he comes up with? 1 more reason to vote no on a new stadium.

What a friggin’ circus. The noise of the Super Dome will be sooooooo loud you won’t be able to hear this guy.

Wow. All this guy did was sing a stupid song at a American Idol audition and all of a sudden he is famous just like that? People are acting like he won the thing when he really didn’t do anything that special.

  27. Carl Gerbschmidt says: Jan 24, 2010 4:26 PM

Just like viking fans acting like they have won it all, when in fact they never have.

  28. csaber2007 says: Jan 24, 2010 4:36 PM

Vikes fans…I know you’ve never won any of value at all. Yes, you’ve choked the times you were in the Super Bowl and now you have a 40 yr old man who has choked big time the last two times we was in a position to get to the big one.
That being said, please act like adults for once in your pathetic lives. It’s sad that you act like you’re greatest, yet you have accomplished jack squat.

  29. JimmySmith says: Jan 24, 2010 4:51 PM

Pants on the ground is actually the perfect song for most Viking fans since that usually happens after a night of drinking with their boyfriend, Bruce.
Let them drink the Kool Aid while they still have a chance. Their trophy case is as empty as their heads.

    Dumb question:
When Favre sang it, shouldn’t it have been “Depends on the Ground”?
