Eagles assistant Brian Stewart goes back to college

Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach Brian Stewart has left the team to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Houston, the team announced today.

Stewart spent the 2009 season in Philadelphia after spending the previous two seasons as defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.

Said Eagles head coach Andy Reid, “We thank Brian for the job he did this past year in Philadelphia. He’s a good football coach and he’s well deserving of this new opportunity. He will bring a great deal of coaching experience to the already strong football staff at the University of Houston. We wish Brian and his family all the best.”

College Football Talk has Stewart’s comments on his career move, including, “I would like to be a head coach some day, so being a successful coordinator in a successful program in a large city like Houston will put me in line to do so.”

Stewart has also been an assistant with the Houston Texans and San Diego Chargers, as well as at Cal Poly, Northern Arizona, Missouri, San Jose State and Syracuse.
