Local paper sells out, Saints fans buy up every edition

The newspaper industry is going through terrible times across America. But not today in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune sold out every single copy of today’s paper, which features a front-page picture of Saints quarterback Drew Brees below a headline reading “Super Saints.” And so the Times-Picayune is going back to the presses.

“We thought we understood how passionate the people of southeast Louisiana are about the Saints,” the paper said on its web site this afternoon. “But after selling out this morning’s newspaper, we underestimated the demand.

“We printed significantly more papers than usual, but it wasn’t enough. So we’re printing more, and a limited number will be available for sale tomorrow morning.”

A day after the Saints qualified for their first Super Bowl, the partying hasn’t stopped. And that’s good news for the whole city, including the local newspaper.

ahhh…. New Orleans. I miss that city. Good luck to the Saints. I hope that city gets it.

Next time the Saints have a shot to go to the Superbowl I am going down there. Those streets went nuts and it was likely the best party ever.

Some are just band wagon fans.
I bought a paper when Elway won in 1997 just because the AFC had not won in 13 years.
Needless to say the paper was used to start a fire on a cold summer night.

  6. MNSportsGuy79 says: Jan 25, 2010 5:35 PM

They had to sell all those papers to payoff Goddell and the refs!

  7. BigEasy33 says: Jan 25, 2010 5:42 PM

    @MNSportsguy
LOL….like when Brett throws the screen to his Left Tackle or was it the Left Guard (no int grounding called)…..quit your crying and go tie a weight around your ankle and jump in your ice fishing hole!!!!!!!!!

Ziggy Wilf told the Vikings to fumble, throw picks and do 12 man huddles before the game winning kick. Said the best thing would to be “Minnesota Nice” and hand the title to you. Your city has seen some hard times and could use the boost. Congratulations, helping people is what we do in MN. LOL

  9. BradyGazelle says: Jan 25, 2010 6:04 PM

What else would you expect from a bandwagon “fan” base of a team that hangs “season ticket sell out” banners.

  10. gbditka says: Jan 25, 2010 6:05 PM

    MNSportsguy,
The NFL did all they could to get Favre & the Vikings to Miami. Too bad they couldn’t avoid turning the ball over every other series.
Saints were flagged 9 times for 88 yards to the Vikings just 5 times for 32 yards. Facts are facts and sleep well tonight knowing your opinion is wrong! Look at the bright side, you can watch your Vikes in Miami this weekend…it’s called the Pro Bowl!

  11. Bigbluefan says: Jan 25, 2010 6:16 PM

Were the papers sold or stolen?

    What a great city

Band wagon fans? I’m quite sure 98% of people in New Orleans have been Saints fans their entire lives.

Typical moron, if you are going to attempt to insult a city, you should try proof reading what you write yourself dipsh*t. Please explain the following sentence that YOU wrote! “Did the loot the paper trucks”. Maybe some 3rd grade English classes would serve you well. Enjoy watching the Saints in the SUPER BOWL!

Idiot… These fans have supported this team through 42 losing seasons. I dare you to find a city with fans more passionate about their team. I guarantee if your team went through all of these losing years like the saints you would be long gone.

  19. SF Saints Fan says: Jan 25, 2010 7:25 PM

    Bigbluefan:
Just which team is “your” team. I would assume the Giants, if so, the Giant fans were “really” classy in the game rescheduled after Katrina, making jokes and carrying signs about the storm while they were still finding bodies of the victims of the storm. If it is not the Giants, I feel sorry for whatever sorry-assed team your support, even if it is the great Cowboys….. Those fans are just a slight cut above Giants and Eagles fans.

  20. scomibord says: Jan 25, 2010 7:25 PM

Success breeds jealousy. You know, I was pretty bitter last night. Said(or typed) some things I probably shouldn’t have said(or typed). I hope I didn’t offend anyone. But if I did, oh well. Some of you were classless to the end, & still are. I’ve said it all year…Black & Gold Superbowl, Baby!!! Make your jokes, hell I’ve even had a few chuckles myself. So Pervy(real & imposter), MNSportsguy, MNFANINAZ , fivefivesixnato & any inconsequential IDIOT that feels this may apply to them; disappear into obscurity until next season, like you were crying for the Packer & Cowboy fans to do. Before I leave, ENJOY THE PRO BOWL! And I sincerely mean that.

Bigbluefan, sounds like there is a little more than football wrapped in your comments – you know like thoughts and biases.
It’s ok, I have prayed that the bitterness and hate that you harbor will pass. Maybe then you can be a Saint in the real sense of the word (and that’s not football).

6 fumbles,2 interceptions,a horrible 12 man penalty before a game winning FG. Us Vikings are not jealous of you shit! We pounded you between the lines.Your big offense was nonexistent. Ad ran over you. You hit Favre all day(both clean and dirty) and couldn’t take him out!! You know that was a playoff record? Most yards by the losing team over the winning team? Be proud, you got the FG. Just don’t google national sports pages.Plenty of them saying how we smeared your ass but handed it to you. Be proud!(until Manning lights up that weak D!)

How well did old Pervy do anyway lol? I agree with you, yall gave the game away and all i have to say is Thanks for the opportunity. Have fun watchin the probowl, oh your QB won’t be playing cause we kicked the shit out of him.

  25. wrath4771 says: Jan 25, 2010 8:28 PM

Good for the Saints and the city of New Orleans. New Orleans is one of the most interesting cities in the country and actually has some “culture”. As for the comment above about “Minnesota Nice” is that the term now for a lost fumble.

  26. WHO DAT says: Jan 25, 2010 8:37 PM

“You know that was a playoff record? Most yards by the losing team over the winning team?”
How bout the 200+ yard advantage we had on Minn in return yards (kicks, fumbles,Int). We cant help it if we had a short field all night.
    Enjoy the Pro Bowl.
And to all the people complaining about the refs screwing the Vikings, what game were u watching. The Saints got screwed on 3 personal fouls, a 3rd and 5 illegal contact call were the Minn. Wr. never crossed 5 yds past the line of scrimmage, plus numerous other crap calls. The refs and NFL did all they could to get Farve in the super bowl and u still lost.

  27. Pervy Harvin says: Jan 25, 2010 8:38 PM

LMAO Favre is 40 and you hit him all day! Still couldn’t take the old boy out! lol I don’t hate you Saints, you been more troubled in the past than the Vikings. Enjoy your year,we are loaded with young talent,we’ll be back. Bet we meet again!

  28. cmsaint says: Jan 25, 2010 8:39 PM

The Saints #1 rated offense scored 28 points in regulation, same as the Vikings. The Saints offense scored the same # of points in fewer minutes. The Saints red zone % on offense was perfect, not so for the Vikings. The Saints D took the ball away 5 times. The Vikings D took the ball away zero times. The Saints D led the league in takeaways and in red zone % on D. That bore itself out against the Vikings.
The Saints special teams created over 200 hidden yards over the Vikings, almost 100 on kickoff returns alone. The Saints had numerous touchbacks and out-punted the Vikings.
The experts scratch their heads and wonder how the Saints won. I just explained how. The amazing thing is that Saints were able to overcome numerous bad calls. Has anyone ever seen a personal foul called for hitting the QB on a running play that could have been a naked bootleg (the QB faked as if he had the ball)?
As far as the national sports pages go, who will be watching those 13 days from today? You go for it. I’ll be watching the Saints in the Superbowl!!!

  29. SF Saints Fan says: Jan 25, 2010 8:39 PM

    Pervy Harvin:
Your team lost. Get over it. Our team has lost in the past and will lose again. You have a very good team and play in a terrible division. If Favre comes back, you will be back in the hunt next year.
By the way, statistics are for the supporters of the losing team. We know about losing, believe me, we know. No sympathy from me, just understanding your disappointment.
Most of those fumbles were caused by the Saints Defense punching the ball out. Brees played an ok game and could have lit your team up if he had hit on a couple of his near misses that he usually does not miss on. The Saints also had way more penalty yards against them, so get off that line too.

Too bad Archie is going to have to watch his son be added to the list of future HOFers beaten up by the Saints on their way to a Superbowl with the 25th ranked defense. Minnesota beaten by the 25th ranked defense. Whiny bitches.

I’m sure Saints fans are having some alone time thinking about their cheap shot artist heroes. Your guys tried to kill him literally. Enjoy your loss in the SB to the Colts. From all the stories I have heard about what went down in New Orleans sounds like the Saints fans don’t actually deserve their team being there. Congrats NFC Champs!

  34. scomibord says: Jan 25, 2010 9:26 PM

All the talkin heads predicted the Vikings would win. Why would I be worried about what they have to say? Dionne can go back to Dallas or the ATL or even San Fran. Either one has a body of water he can jump into. The team that won was the best team. The team with the most points on the scoreboard. Enjoy your stats, maybe they will keep your warm at night. Or you can put them into the trophy case with the prize for the best team that didn’t win the Superbowl. How many of those do you have now??? I lose count. The city of NOLA would eat you alive.

WHY ARE YOU HERE??? How bad were you smoked by Drew & his boys. Oh, don’t forget that dirty, nasty, cheating, 25th ranked defense. Gotta love that dirty, nasty, cheating, 25th ranked defense that beat up the Queens. What happened, did they leave the Mullet in Queen land???

  37. MNSportsGuy79 says: Jan 25, 2010 10:54 PM

Oh yeah I forgot…apparently it IS okay to spike the qb after he gets rid of the ball, and you CAN use the ground to secure a catch…but it’s NOT okay to BARELY touch a receiver when the ball is thrown way over his head and nowhere near him…yeah, I’m the idiot (wish I had sarcasm font if you can’t feel it seeping thru your screen) Turnovers & penalties killed us, the 12-man is inexcusable…but the NFL wanted their Brees/Manning Super Bowl and they got it…Vikings stayed in the game despite multiple mistakes and very questionable reffing…WHAT-DAT SAY BOUT DEM AINTS?! Good luck Suckas!

    Saints fans-
Welcome to the jealously that every single fan has to go through when their team DARES to win a big game.
As a Steelers fan, I dealt with it all last year and (if you win the Super Bowl) you’ll deal with it all next year too.
“The referees let you win” , “Your town is full of dumb people”, “wait until next year”
    It’s actually very pathetic

  39. blsdwnstr says: Jan 26, 2010 12:37 AM

    dlman91:
I am serious when I say this, but no team has ever been jealous of us. We are too busy having a good time to give a crap what others think of us anyway. So all of this vitriol is taking us aback. Plus the Katrina comments from anyone north of I-10 are reprehensible. If you weren’t there shut up. We are a real community down here. We care about each other and not really so much about what others think about us.
Indeed, the chant “WHO DAT” is simply a communal way of saying we have an accent that others don’t understand.
As to the season sell out banner. The Saints have been selling out routinely for years and years. The banner reflect “season ticket” sell outs. The fan base rallied around the Saints after Katrina and bought all of the tickets in advance. Since we are pretty lackadaisical down there, doing anything in advance is rare.
    WHO DAT!

  40. cmsaint says: Jan 26, 2010 1:10 AM

    Thank you dlman91.
    To you Saints haters:
After last season, when the Saints had an awful turnover ratio, the Saints emphasized ball security and takeaways from the first day of the first minicamp. That is called coaching and preparation. The Vikings played like cowards at the end of regulation – run, run, stupid penalty, stupid pass. On fourth and short in the middle of the field in OT the Saints made a gutsy call and went for it. The Vikings LB smacked the ball with his helmet but Thomas held onto the ball as he was coached to do. The interceptions were caused by pressure and/or coverage. The Saints caused all of the recovered fumbles except for one. How satisfying would winning be for you if your opponent did not try their hardest and let you win? That’s what it sounds like you want. At the end of the game the best team had more points. That is the only statistic that matters. You can either not watch the Super Bowl or watch the Saints play the Colts. The NFL will not change the outcome because you are crying.
