Report: Ed Reed expected to return

Ed Reed was one of the many players this season to contemplate retirement in the draining moments after their last game of the season.

With the emotion of Baltimore’s season-ending loss now more than a week old, it sounds like Reed is planning a return to the field.

Old PFT buddy Aaron Wilson, writing for the National Football Post, says that Reed is “definitely expected” to play next year according to several teammates and a source.

Speaking on Sirius radio, Reed said his decision isn’t yet made.  But it would reportedly take a “major setback” with his neck or hip/injuries to prevent Reed from playing again.

Reed, 31,  is due $6 million next season.

Ed Reed is one of those players that I LOVE to watch play the game of football. He should have 3 TD’s next season.

  2. braindead says: Jan 26, 2010 4:36 PM

Dude can play. He still has a year or two in him. If the Ravens don’t want him, he can come to the Brownies. He’s better at 32 than anything else we’ve got right now.

this guy isnt a tuchdown machine.
he only has 5 career TDs

2/3 of the earth is covered by water, the other 1/3 is still covered by Ed Reed

  5. DemocratsAreStupid says: Jan 26, 2010 4:41 PM

Ed Reed owns Peyton Manning. Manning has said this in the past. Unfortunately, the rest of the Ravens can’t get on the same page.

For the LOVE OF GOD stop reproducing this quote! It was first attributed to Deion Sanders back in the 90′s and some idiot linked it to Troy Polomalu and now you are doing it with Ed Reed? COME ON!

hizzle1281 you are sooooo dumb. look some stuff up before making a comment…he has 13 td’s in his career…not 5

do a little research bro…..he actually has 6 interceptions returned for TDs, 2 fumbles returned for TDs, 1 blocked punt returned for a TD, and 1 punt return TD. That’s 10 total. Not to mention that he broke the record TWICE for longest interception return for a TD (106 in 2004, 107 in 2008). (Wikipedia says he has 7 int TDs and 3 blocked punt TDs, for a total of 13 TDs, but I didn’t even stoop that low). Also, not that it matters, but he blocked a punt and returned it for a TD in the Pro Bowl.
    The man can score.

“this guy isnt a tuchdown machine.

    ————————————-
Actually… he has 6 interceptions returned for a TD
2 fumbles returned for a TD
    1 punt return TD
And I know he has at least 1 blocked kick returned for a TD.
ESPN says he has 12 career TDs:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=3552
So there’s 2 more in there somewhere.
Oh, and if you really want to be fair… you can also take into account how many times he had a TD taken away by an official. OR, how many times he picked off the ball… then lateraled it to a teammate who ended up scoring.
    HI HATER!

Polamalu is so much better than Reed, it’s sickening. I’m so tired of hearing how Ravens players are going to “retire”, then 3 weeks later, they come back!! Boy oh boy!! Let’s have a parade and let the music play. He’s BACK!!
    Whooppee!!!!!
What a suck ass franchise. The players don’t know if they want to stay or go. The coach looks like he is about to burst into tears any second now, and when the team loses, the players and their douchebag fanbase always blames it on the officials.
Yawn…..enjoy your third place finish next year. Only the Clowns will save you from the AFC North basement.

As a Ravens fan, I hope Reed comes back more than anything. But I think we have to read these “reports” with a grain of salt. This “report” was from some blog where someone just took a quote and ran with it, assuming the quote means more than it does. Not to mention, we can argue back and forth about the credibility of the writer/blog itself. This happens all the time, especially in sports. Not saying the writer isn’t credible per se, just saying we need to sometimes go to the source, and if you read that article you can see it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just Ed Reed saying I have to take care of some things and see how I’m feeling down the road. One blogger misconstrues words and another blogger picks it up and changes the title of his article to “Reed Changes Mind” , when clearly that isn’t the case. And who knows? Maybe Reed will decide tomorrow and maybe he comes back Day 1 of training camp, either way, you sometimes have to decipher where news comes from and not assume that just because you read it here that it’s true.

why is everyone claiming that ed reed is good and ‘can play’ and would be missed? we all know that already. he is one of the best players in the league and has been for a while…

katmandu or frank burns whichever you are, what you certainly are is a miscreant. an accident of birth who owes his very existence to a defective diaphragm or a busted condom.
no one cares about your opinion regarding ed reed. you can like ed reed and still like troy p. now i realize that being able to do two things at once like that taxes your brain. but think about it for awhile. and once you have matured, say in a few decades, get back to the adults on the site with your homework.

  18. Ravenmaniac says: Jan 26, 2010 5:32 PM

    Katmanduche…always posts and runs…..
Dude I know you are no kind of real fan of the steelers or of football. Your posts make that painfully obvious…
If I have to guess..I would bet you are 14 years old….and on mommies laptop in your bedroom.
Troy and Ed are both probably the best to ever play the game at their position!

  19. LovinBlue says: Jan 26, 2010 5:33 PM

Glad to hear it. I don’t care if he’s picked off Manning so many times – the game is so much more fun with the best players on the field.

I think Reed would rather retire than play for the Browns..LOL Keep it real.
I am disappointed tho.. Was hoping to host a retirement party for Reed and Mason.LOL

  22. The Jimmy says: Jan 26, 2010 6:07 PM

I was going to say for his future health he should hang it up. He really seems to have some serious things going on. Then I read that last line. That is a lot of incentive to come back.

  28. scrapdawg12 says: Jan 26, 2010 7:22 PM

Reed can play till he’s 35. He’s a stud. One of the best ever at safety.

  29. Drafty says: Jan 26, 2010 7:41 PM

Not a Ravens fan, but they collect great players (broke my heart when Shamahan let Shannon Sharpe go to Baltimore). And I do like Ozzie.
Reed is a great player, and if his health and mindset allows, the game is better with him playing next year.

  30. Mumakata says: Jan 26, 2010 8:34 PM

Ed Reed should a couple more good years, if Ray Lewis doesn’t stab him and then try to cover it up.

  31. ricebowl says: Jan 26, 2010 8:39 PM

    @ katmandu:
3rd place finish every year? well they finished 2nd the past 2 years, which would make your statement incorrect.
And now is the probably when you will state that you have 6 rings.

Ed REEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDD! Echoes from M&T for many more years! He ain’t leavin The CITY THAT REEDS!
Game Changer, lateraling fumbling ball hawk who is a pleasure to watch. Hate all you want but watching Lewis and Reed and the many other talented ravens defenders (boulware, mcrary, rob burnett, goose, bart scott , jimmy leonard, AD, sam adams, starks, ron woodson, kelly gregg, Tsizzle, jarret johnson, McCalister, Rolle, sharper, PRIME,Hartwell, Pryce and it begins and ends with #52. All DAY, two first ballot HOF’ers! If anything ed will at least play a couple of more years so he can go out with his U brother!

  35. BigFella87 says: Jan 26, 2010 10:30 PM

My God Katamanduu, or 40 year old virgin (I know, I know same thing….) do you ever quit……Why do you say bullsh*t like “Yawn…..enjoy your third place finish next year. Only the Clowns will save you from the AFC North basement” when all you’re doing is describing the Steelers……..seriously man, get a clue….you’re obviously not a real football fan…..have fun sitting at home on a bean bag chair, naked, eating Cheetos while watching “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs”…..or sorry, you’re right, it’s not Friday night yet……

  36. Nambla Limbaugh says: Jan 27, 2010 3:26 AM

  37. Mumakata says: Jan 27, 2010 8:57 AM

There would be more if Ray lewis wasn’t stabbing people.

  38. DeuceDeuce13 says: Jan 31, 2010 3:24 AM

Troy and ed’s don’t play the same position. But imagine them both on the same team… U wouldn’t even need corners
