After the Cardinals lost to the Saints 10 days ago, Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner said that his decision regarding whether he’ll retire won’t be a long, drawn-out thing.
But if he doesn’t make his decision known soon, he’ll be asked about it next week.
Repeatedly.
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic points out that Warner is spending some time with his family this week, and he’ll be making multiple appearances in Miami next week in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.
So he’ll have to talk about the situation over and over again, especially if he hasn’t made up his mind.
In his last 3 NFC championship games Favre`s final pass was intercepted. In all 3 instances it directly led to his teams not winning. This is one of the huge reasons why the Packers let Favre go. He played poorly in the playoffs since 98. Not to mention the circus he made regarding his on again off again retirement. Remember, He retired from the Packers in march of 2007. Packers then give starting job to Aaron Rodgers. Packers also spend 2 draft picks on QB`s one was a 2nd rounder. Packers then begin to prepare offense around Rodgers. Then in late May 2007 Favre tells Packers he wants to play again. Packer personel make plans to fly to Mississippi to discuss the matter with Favre. The day before the Packer personel (Gm Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthey) were scheduled to fly Favre contacts them and tells them not come because he will remain retired. Ok Packers then reassure Rodgers he is now the starting QB and develop team around Rodgers. Then during camp Favre tells Packers he wants to play again. Packers have already moved on and were tired of this soap opera. Also keep in mind Rodgers was in a contract year and that there no way he was going to re-sign with Packers if they brought back Favre again. Also remember Favre had held the Packers hostage the 2 previous seasons with his retirements. The Packers had enough of it. Favre got to the point where he thought he was bigger then the Packers. In fact the year before when Asked what the team thought of him delaying preparations for the next season, Favre responded:
“What are they going to do, cut me?”
Favre is/was a great qb but it was time for him to go. Favre wanted to go to the Vikings. The Packers naturally didnt want him to go to a divisional rival. He was traded to the Jets. After that season he lied and told the Jets he was retiring. Of course he just told them that so they would release him. Then amazingly he comes out of retirement to sign with the Vikings.
Most Packer fans have a bad taste in thier mouths regarding how Favre handled the situation. Yes, both sides could have handled it better but I think Favre deserves most of the blame.
Packers now seem to have a very good QB in Rodgers for the next 10-12 years. Had the Packers brought Favre back Rodgers would be gone.
.Vikings have had the worst luck of any Pro team in sports history
** 4 Superbowl losses
** 5 straight losses in NFC Championship games
**Korey Stringer dies in training camp.
**The love boat incident
**Gary Anderson who had just completed the first perfect regular season in NFL history (not missing a single extra point or field goal attempt the entire year), missed a 38-yard attempt with less than 2 minutes remaining in NFC championship game that most likely puts Vikes in Superbowl in 98.
**in 2003 Arizona’s last second touchdown on 4th and 28 against Vikings eliminated Vikings from playoffs. The moment of Arizona’s touchdown was actually the first moment the entire season in which the Vikings hadn’t led their division. The Vikings became the second team in football history to miss the playoffs after getting off to a 6–0 start
**The “Hail Mary” pass Drew Pearson caught against the Vikes in 75 NFC championship to give Dallas the win in the final minute.
**Jim Marshalls wrong way run
**The Herschel Walker trade in which Vikings gave Dallas three 1st rounders, three 2nd rounders, plus a 3rd and a 6th rounder in addition to 5 players. Walker lasts only 3 seasons in Minnesota
.
**Vikings despite being favored, lose 41-0 in NFC championship game in 2000.
**Green Bays Antonio Freeman makes one of the all time great miracle catches in overtime to defeat Vikings in 2000
**2010Favre`s 4th quarter interception vs Saints in NFC championship
I`m sure there are things I missed but this is why I believe the Vikings have had the worst luck in Professional sports history
In America you have freedom to do whatever you want, you do, googgle it and see. I think Warner should get some advice from Brett on this, who better to guide him thru this, you, that is a joke all by itself..
Buh Bye
Just knowing he’ll have to face the Saints D again next year is enough to make him hang it up.
Or he could say what Favre should have said all those times he was asked – No Comment.
I think Florio is bitter because he knows if he were to retire they would plug in Greg or any number of writers and no one would try and talk him into coming back.
Or- he knows what buttons to push to get people to reply to stories…
but its not all Warners decision right?
I mean, we need to all wait until after he consults with God to ask such questions.
My .02
Been doing some thinking about the overall perceptions of all-time QB’s. Peyton Manning name is now vaulted to the best ever only a few years after being tagged with the label of never being able to win “The Big Game” on any level.
This sentiment reminds me of how Brett Favre’s name remains unquestioned in that argument. It is now being questioned by some, but the media and fans wont stay off of his bandwagon long.
Peyton is 9-8 overall in the playoffs. 8 of those wins are in 3 seasons including this year. This guy has been bounced in the first round (or first playoff game) four times and not made the playoffs twice. And we all are too familiar with Brett’s post-season woes.
So, why with the value we place in all other sports on the post-season do we not hold these guys to the same standard? Think about it. Elway, Montana, Baugh, Brady, Bradshaw, Aikman, Staubach, and Big Ben have all been better when it has truly mattered. These names are the true greats and if Peyton loses this SB (which he will, these are not the Lovie Smith Bears he is facing) hopefully the crush will subside for a while.

You are dreaming. You guys beat on him all day and he still passed it down your throat. Feel blessed by the GIFT!
Unlike the petulant hillbilly man-child in Minnesota, I have a feeling that Kurt Warner will handle the situation like an adult.
Favre didn’t just think he was bigger than the Packers, he thinks he is bigger than the game itself. Remember the Strahan incident, when he turned the NFL into the WWF. He totally disrespected his team, the League, and the Game. The height of arrogance.

Are u drunk? Who do you think we are talking about here? I’m sure Favre wouldn’t exactly want to see my squad again next year either.
Brett Favre’s QB rating was 70 on Sunday – Vikings fans went out of there way to bash Aaron Rodgers after his over 100 QB rating game against the Cardinals. Wasn’t the Cards defense ranked higher than the Saints this year? Weren’t both games played on the road in loud, noisy domes? Vikings fans staying real quiet about Favre’s terrible INT and complaining about the refs when they went on & on about Rodgers fumble & for Packers fans to shut up and quit being crybabies over the refs in that game.
Pushing out Farve for Rodgers is one thing, nobody in their right mind would push out Warner for Leinart.
Hey Mountaindont thanks for the info, I didnt realize the vikings choked that hard. They better hope favre comes back, chilly better get on his knees now, hahahahaa
“Just knowing he’ll have to face the Saints D again next year is enough to make him hang it up.”
Im not a Farve fan, but that statement proves your clueless… Theres nothing scary about the saints D … my evidence.. Jason Garrett found a way to beat you!.. coming from a cowboys fan thats hard to admit.
my god that’s a long post at the beginning, mountain…
I was referring Kurt Warner and the hit McCray put on him. Also if you are not blind Favre was obviously limping after the game. I never said the Saints have the best defense but we got after them. The Dallas game was a must win for them.
Warner won’t get the Favre treatment for many reasons, one he is an honest man who when he makes up his mind, i fully trust he will keep it, 2nd Arizona has a future qb in Leinart and plus they love what Warner has done for them as did the packers, but he did this to them 3 years in a row before finally ending it and 3rd, Kurt Warner was NOT supposed to do so well in the nfl let alone come to Arizona and make them a title contender, by the time he went to Arizona the media said he was too old and no longer great, whoops.
Hey Mountaindont
The Packers let Favre go. So who cares if Packer fans have a bad taste in their mouth regarding Favre? You didn’t want him, so don’t blame him for playing for a rival. If someone does not want you, you have no obligation to be loyal to them. Get it? Sick of you Packer fans bitching about Favre and expecting him to be loyal to you, when the organization was done with him.
This is a post directed to Warner. But, it will be another Favre hating post for all to take out their internet rage on.
As Conan said,
DEAR INTERNET!
Warner has more class, character, and brains in his little toe than 99% of the JimRome wannabees that write to PFT blogs to make fun of him. You all wish you could be him. I am ashamed to even be on here with you. Bunch of freakin tards………………
Braindead, you hit it right on the head. There is no way Warner’s name should be in the same sentence as Favre. Warner has brought respectability to a franchise that doesn’t even deserve it and done so with nothing but class. Even in advanced years (nfl-wise), he still does the little things like OTA’s and training camp. It shows he has respect for the game and his teammates. Each year he has taken the appropriate time and made a decision in a timely manner. The bad part is that when he decides to stay, it’s like getting blood from a stone to get paid. They don’t deserve him.
I really don’t see why there’s a rush to get Warner’s answer. Seriously, Dick Vermeil retired in the heat of battle and gave up a pretty damn good team that might have won another Super Bowl with HIS leadership and HIS coaches. He ended up regretting that decision and came back for the Chiefs and while he did well, he was never able to duplicate his success. Warner should take his time and see if he’s up to another season. If he feels better physically in a month or so, he might want to come back but if he’s still feeling the effects of the hits even then it might behoove him to retire. Why make a rash decision that he may regret and then he ends up looking like another Favre.
Also, it’s NOT imperative for the Cardinals to look at a replacement in the drfat this year; in fact, it would be stupid. If he does retire, they can look at Leinart full time and if they don’t like what they see, they can pick up a better option next year when the QBs coming out should be better than what you’ve got available this year. Should he retire now, they can still pick up a veteran to back up Matt and take over if he falters.
How did aaron rodgers end his 1st ever post season? Thats right a fumble. rodgers is now 1-1 in his playoff career
Since every posts comes back to the Vikings somehow…I wanted to share something I heard from a Packer fan I’d never met before.
In the company of 2 other packer fans in a bar in WI, and referring to the Vikings/Saints game, he said, “To be honest, that was worst officiated game I have EVER seen.”
I have not said a word about the officiating, but apparently some Vikings fans have been accused of complaining about it. Well, I will still not say anything…because “your” boy already said it.
Mountaindont, best post ever. I have family members who are Jets fans, and Favre dragged their team down for a season when he was playing his BS “retirement yes/retirement no” games. Favre is tarnishing all the good he has done with his drama and theatrics. I am sure the ladies on The View will give him a seat and a mic.
As for Warner, very respectable, great player. No drama, BS or dragging down other teams and players by waffling and playing games with other’s careers. Good luck in whatever your decision is, Kurt!
To the retarded few who think Favre was wrong for going to the Vikings.
First I dont blame the Packers for opting to not go with Favre and instead go with Rodgers for the many reasons. He is a solid QB with a great future and the Packers needed to make suer he stayed, but I do think at that point if you dont want Favre let him go. Dont then try to influence what team he plays for or limit his options after you have decided to move on. (It is like the guy who does not want his girlfriend leaves her then gets mad when she finds happiness somewhere else.) If that meant he went to the Vikings then so be it. I think the guy gave enough to the sport to deserve that at the point they no longer wanted him.
As far as the retire or not to retire. I had a relative who approached 65 yrs of age and was a driver of an oil truck. Not to glamorous but he loved to the idea of going to work. Finances were not an issue.
He was getting to a point where he felt he should retire but was a year trying to decide what to do and then spent another 2 years part time trying to keep moving.
Favre like many others in the NFL are competitors of the highest level those guys LOVE football. Knowing if he goes out for one year there is never going to be a next year on the other not sure if he wanted to commit to another full season.
I can only assume if a guy has a hard time walking away from a loud, dirty break his back job like driving an oil truck, I can then only assume that a guy who is a starting QB in the NFL would experience a similar reaction to having to walk away.
Some of you I realize will have know idea what I am talking about, when being really good at something and truly enjoying it is some how wrong in your sick envious eyes.
Now saying that I do think Favre could have made his mind up a little faster but we are not him and only he knows he how he really feels. I dont think the fact that he did take his time is such a big of a deal as it was made out to be. You want to put blame on anyone put it on the media for making such a fuss over him retiring or not retiring.
hopefully if asked Warner wont answer…its the media driving these stories…let him take his time & make up his mind & quite possibly the press will be informed when he does…
You mean he’ll get his own head coach assigned to chauffeur him around town? Cool!
