“Saintsmania” forces delay in trial

Florio usually handles the legal stories since he’s the lawyer, and I was a mediocre political science major.

But you don’t need a law degree to understand a hilarious court order issued Wednesday in the civil district court of Orleans Parish. A reader sent the document to PFT, and we can confirm it’s real. Since we can’t link to it, we’ll reproduce it below:

“This matter is presently set for a jury trial on Monday, February 1, 2010.
“Considering the historic victory of the New Orleans Saints, the Court finds that the trial will not be able to proceed as originally scheduled. The Court takes judicial notice that Saintsmania permeates the city of New Orleans.

“Many prospective jurors for the Parish of Orleans, several attorneys involved in this litigation and Court personnel plan on traveling to the promised land -- the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida. The Court recognizes that this pilgrimage enhances the chances of the Who Dat Nation to acquire the long sought after Holy Grail -- the Vince Lombardi trophy.”

It continues with some legal fun after that, but you get the idea. There isn’t any work getting done in New Orleans next week.
