When your wife can donate 1.5 mill to Haiti, it is obvious that Tom doesnt worry about money….and never has.
He will get a new deal, but it will be nowhere close to what Manning gets….

I think Brady’s best year was 2006…believe it or not. Aside from all the records he broke in 2007, he had absolute horseapple receivers in 2006…Reche Caldwell was our number 1, Gaffney number 2, and Troy Brown (2 or 3)…don’t forget we had Doug Gabriel too…he was awesome. But yet somehow, the Pats managed to eek their way to the AFC Championship game and almost win it due to one of many Pees’ defensive meltdowns.
Brady took a friendly deal that ended up not being so friendly in the last year…because Brady restructured in order to make room for Moss and others. That restructure didn’t cost him money, it just made his deal more backloaded. Either way, he is still worth it.
But I think the original post is right…don’t let Manning set the market…The Pats better get Brady locked up before that happens.

Could the Colts we have the success they’ve had without Manning? Not at all. He is the main cog in the attack. That being said, if he took the exact same contract, he and his family probably wouldn’t go hungry and the Colts would have more money to sign players to keep the team at the top. Could he get $20 million a year? Maybe. Should he? No, not if it hamstrings the organization. But then, I am playing with someone else’s money and as Paul Molitor once said when talking about his $3 million a year salary (talk about chump change), when you get to this much, it ain’t for spending, it’s for showing off.

Nobody is worth the kind of money athletes are paid…. regardless of the sport.
It is beyond rediculous and is the reason the average fan cannot afford to take his family to a game.

the other side of that argument is that cassel won 5 less games in 2008 than brady won with the same team from 2007. i think the 2008 team was a lot closer to the 2007 team than to the 2009 team.

this is a straight up nonsense statement. first, the pats offense is the same system becasue belichik instituted it and he just has guys come in to run it. true peyton has played in the same system also, but you have to be a homer to disagree with his talent, or to think he wouldn’t be great anywhere else…for the record, i believe the same thing about brady, just because he thrives in one system doesnt mean he wouldnt be great in another. both guys are great, just enjoy instead of trying to qualify.

Manning is possibly the only player in the League that I can see a team breaking the bank for in an uncapped year. If the Colts have the cash, they should give him a ridiculous sum for next year (40 million?), and a lower amount the rest of the term. Helps with the cap, gives him a massive payday…

Anyone ever wonder if Manning makes his WR’s great? Can anyone name a WR on the Colts that didn’t play well when Manning was throwing to them? Stoakley was a pro-bowler, goes to Denver and barely ever hear of him… Marcus Pollard- pro-bowl tight end, gets let go and never hear from him again… Garcon, Collie, Wayne, Harrison, Clark…. what are the odds that they’re all great???

remember that Cassel NEVER started one single college game and never seen the field until Brady got hurt or when it was garbage minutes, Brady is good yes, BUT Manning runs that offense and he is so good that great coaches like Bellichick make STUPID decisions like going for it on 4th and 1 on your own 24 yard line, he was that scared of Manning.

Any Colts fan who thinks they could have similar success without Manning is just fooling themselves.
The Patriots’ problem is that ol’ Bill is too busy trading veterans to the Raiders for draft picks that the defense became a liability. How quickly people jump off the Brady bandwagon.

Why do people constantly undersell Tom Brady? Aren’t we talking about the guy who went 16-0, won 3 Super Bowls, four AFC championships, threw 50 touchdowns to only 8 picks? Who is a better quarterback than Brady other than Peyton Manning? No one. Even the biggest Pats hater has to admit the guy is a beast.
It’s not as if Manning’s offenses have lacked talent.
As for the Cassel comment, give it up. Manning has never missed a game. Cassel had been in the NFL for four years when he got the call. He was also a steal because he had talent, but didn’t play in college.
You can’t compare 2 halves of Curtis Painter with 4th stringers at WR and OL to a full season featuring a veteran who was throwing to Randy Moss and Wes Welker. That makes no sense.
If the Colts really are nothing without Manning, then it speaks strongly of their overall inferiority to the Patriots as an organization and their inability to draft a backup quarterback.
But I have a feeling that people are selling Bill Polian and the Colts too short. Manning is not the only great player on his team.

mwcarolina said it best, if your team can win more games with your backup, your not a franchise quarterback.
Brady didn’t take a discount last time, he got an inflated number based on the fans perception is that he caused the Pats to win those Championships. History will view him much like Bradshaw, the quarterback of a multiple championship team, but could have been replaced by a dozen other guys.

Matt Cassel won 11 games last year with the same team that Brady won 10 with this year. If anything, they should have traded him last year. The QB in NE is a product of a great system, thats exactly what Brady is. Throw in the top Defenses that he was playing with earlier in the decade an wa-la! 3 Superbowls and he looks like an all-time great.

Tom Brady might not be a top-ten QB on another team. Manning would be no matter where he was.
I’m not a Brady hater, I’d take him on my fantasy team any day. But Payton Manning was born and raised to be the greatest player ever and he is, with all due respect to Lord Favre.
Brady actually benefits from going into contract talks around the same time as Peyton…

I don’t see either guy getting a new contract before there’s a new CBA. Aren’t the owners, in essence, asking for a reduction in the salary cap? If the salary cap reduces, then $20 mil per year could be back breaking.

Yes Peyton did… and yeah I don’t think he’d ransom the kingdom into bankruptcy to keep him. I think he’ll ask for what he’s worth (which IMNSHO, would be the highest salary ever) and they’ll give it to him. But knowing how much he’s given back to Indianapolis (an estimated $50mil to a childrens’ hospital), Knoxville and New Orleans, I just don’t see him as the greedy type.
