PFTV looks at Cable's status

There currently are no vacancies in the NFL head-coaching ranks.

But there still could be one, if the Raiders decide to part ways with coach Tom Cable.

The team has denied reports that it is considering other candidates, but it also has denied reports that Cable is safe.

So what the hell is going on?  PFTV explores.

“Anyone who has other options wouldn’t take the Raiders Job”……..ummmmm. Didnt Hue Jackson just choose the Raiders over the Bears?? And just so you know, Tom Cable is under contract. The Raiders dont have to tell you guys crap. So I don’t know why everyone is sitting around waiting for the Raiders to announce that he’s still going to remain the Head Coach

kills me – the single mind the sports media shares… don’t compare Al Davis with Jerry Jones! Al Davis built this league! You do not have a job on the interweb without Al Davis…

  3. shawnstreet says: Jan 28, 2010 10:22 AM

I agree that no “name” coach would ever go to Oakland if they had other options. However, I think Oakland would be a nice target for no name coaches. Let me explain.
No matter what happens you’re looking at working there two years tops. If you’re head strong and do things your way, you’ll be fired or traded for draft picks that Al will waste. And if you do things Al’s way, you’ll be fired because it simply doesn’t work anymore.
But here’s the major benefit. You get your name in the spotlight for a little while and if you have any success whatsoever, say win 6 or 7 games, you can have any job you want after that. Other GMs or college teams will say, dude won 6 games with the Raiders?? Holy crap he’s the second coming of Lombardi!
Look at what’s happened to Raider coaches from the past. Kiffin lands in UT which leads to USC. Turner takes the Bolts to the playoffs, Chucky wins a Super Bowl, Shannahan wins a Super Bowl…

This is the quote PFT and the rest of the clan members (media) is basing “Raiders deny Cable isnt safe”.
“We’ve never made any statement that the head coach would not be back, that has been media speculation from the beginning,” senior executive John Herrera said in a statement to The Associated Press on Saturday night. “We’ve consistently stated that we’re going through an evaluation process to determine the direction that the organization needs to go. The process is ongoing and has not reached a conclusion.”
You guys still cant tell me where the Raiders deny Cable is safe. The very first line of the quote is “We’ve never made any statement that the head coach would not be back, that has been media speculation from the beginning,”!!!!!!!!! Where is the denial in that? Where does it say the evaluation is for Cable? Both hirings that have been made have connections to Cable. That just must be a coincidence.
Florio probably didnt read the quote him self, other wise he would see theres no basis to his posts saying cable isnt safe. Unless hes just retarded, and im starting to think thats a very good possibilty. I cant beleive this guy was a lawyer, its scary that he cant even interpit a quote correctly, id hate to see what he gets out of contracts or legal documents.
Have fun “twisting in the wind”.
P.S. Hey Florio, when are you going to address the Rumors of you fist pumping with Bobby Bottle Service?

Why worry about what the heck is going on? Al Davis has is own way of doing things, so don’t get your panties in a bunch. Bill Callahan was named “Captain of Coaches” while Al deliberated and watched his performance in a leading role for weeks before naming him HC.
In case you haven’t noticed, there are still two teams that are playing for the championship. I’m not defending his ecentricities, but Al isn’t going to (and shouldn’t, IMO) make quick descisions to placate the media and their short-sighted ideals. He likes the interview process and if there are coaches on the Saints or Colts that he’d like to evaluate–even if he plans on keeping Cable–why lose that advantage by announcing his intentions now? He often brings in coaches he has no intention of hiring if only to pick their brains and possibly consider them for the future if he thinks they’re worthy of the job.
    Now hire a GM!!!

Guys, Florio is no dummy. Dude can read and he knows what we’ve been saying.
He’s just messing with us, trying to stir things up.

  7. dogma1 says: Jan 28, 2010 11:16 AM

If Raiders have another 5-11 season but the offense is better Hue Jackson will become Head Coach after the season. Tom Cable is safe for now but if the Raiders don’t win in 2010 he is done.

damn florio last time i checked you were a ex lawyer, current sports writer and dumb ass, i didnt see raider management any where on your resume… so what makes you think that the raiders are gonna can cable? you put the damn quote in your own story last week… i will include it once again and its from someone who actually works for the raider organization.
“We’ve never made any statement that the head coach would not be back, that has been media speculation from the beginning,” senior executive John Herrera said in a statement to The Associated Press on Saturday night. “We’ve consistently stated that we’re going through an evaluation process to determine the direction that the organization needs to go. so what do you really think? like al davis is really going to hold press conferences saying , you know what guys, im considering firing cable, Ill let you guys know as soon as i come to a conclusion, in fact ill tell the media cable is fired before i tell him. Now lets go have some tuna sandwiches and discuss if i should fire cable or not…
are u serious florio??? lets see how long NBC lets this website run for before it gets “conan”ized and shut down…

To the guy that thinks Al Davis “built this league” please get a clue.
In 1966 when Pete Rozelle, Tex Schramm, and Lamar Hunt were negotiating the terms of the merger, they held secret meetings to keep Al Davis from knowing what was going on.
Al was not even an original AFL owner.

For all those talking sh*t about the Raiders Job.. Think of it in this light.. No proven or vested coach will come to oakland.. True . If your an NFL assistant or college coach the Raiders is a perfect job.. TRUE. Let me explain why..
If you become the HC of the Raiders and you turn out a respectable (Shanahan) record you would be looked at as a miracle worker.. They would say this guy took the Raiders and dealt with Al Davis and still handled his business.. Next Paycheck Huge. Now imagine if you turned out a great team and record (Gruden$$$)
If you become the HC and Suck balls ( Kiffin) the media would say “Well he tried but in the End Al Davis made Horrible draft picks. Distracted the team with his dysfuntion and sabotaged the gameplan. Who can win in this environment??” Hello Tennesse, USC.. yes im interested.. compared to Al this is a piece of cake.
So you see its as much as a No lose situation as you can get in the NFL… plus you will get paid!! Unless your actions are detrimental to the team.

Al was basically “the general” and Lamar Hunt was the leader. Yes, Al played a pivotal roll in the AFL’s ability to compete with the NFL but that is pretty much where his contribution ends.
He actually wanted to stomp the NFL into bankruptcy and absorb whatever was left. He did NOT want to merge with the NFL. If Al Davis had his way with the NFL, the game would be much different today and probably not nearly as good.

Another example of the media thinking they are entitled. YOU morons are the only ones who think Cable will be fired, he’s not so STFU already. Your anti-Raider BS is really getting old. Hue Jackson could have stayed where he was, went to Chicago, or sign in Oakland. What did he do? Yeah that’s right so STFU yet again. You media morons are just pissed cuz the Raiders don’t give 2 s*%ts about you and your false rumor mongering. Maybe if you actually reported truths and left your ignorant opinions out of it, they’d be more willing to talk to you. And seriously, Al Davis has more football knowledge and respectability than you a-holes could ever hope for.

  13. jb10 says: Jan 28, 2010 1:20 PM

i find it funny that every day there is a few stories concerning the raiders and cable. florio says again that fassel and tressman were talked to yet the raiders and the people supposedly “talked” to both deny this. what gives? i guess every one is lying? hell its hard enough to get 3 people in one room to agree on something now there is a group of people lying about speaking with al davis? the people involved and their agents and the teams they are currently under contract with? hilarious!!!
florio you continue to say that a big name coach will not go to oakland and that none are interested. great! funny thing is al davis is not interested in any of those coches any way. it is not like these coaches are turning al davis down. that is not the type of coach that al davis is looking for.
    get a clue.

  14. jb10 says: Jan 28, 2010 1:22 PM

ooooh and for not hearing of the coaches al has hired, who had heard of jon gruden or john madden before al davis hired them? just curious.

  15. mpoles says: Jan 28, 2010 1:58 PM

Mike, did you just call Al Davis “smart”?
    I think you did…

  16. Raider B says: Jan 28, 2010 2:13 PM

    @ bigrig
Contrary to common belief, it was not the AFL, but the NFL that initiated discussions for a merger between the two leagues, as it was fearful that Davis’ “take no prisoners” tactics would seriously reduce its talent base. Schramm, now general manager of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, secretly contacted AFL owners and asked if they were interested in a merger. The talks were conducted without the knowledge of NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle or AFL commissioner Al Davis. By June 8, 1966, the collaborators announced a merger agreement.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFL%E2%80%93NFL_merger
NFL was scared of Davis “take no prisoners attitude”, so had meetings behind Al Davis AND NFLs comish Pete Rozelle.

  17. sluggrad says: Jan 28, 2010 2:43 PM

I don’t know or care about Al Davis’ role in the AFL/NFL merger, but I almost spit out my coffee to see someone use Wikipedia as a source. If it said Florio negotiated the merger would you believe it?
Regarding Cable’s position with the Raiders, he’s next years fall guy. Al keeps him around till the Raiders lose their first 4 games, then he’s canned and Hue whatever his name takes over for the rest of the season.

  18. Raider B says: Jan 28, 2010 3:02 PM

    @ slug,
believe what you want, but facts are facts no matter what source you want to use. theres entire doumentaries on this subject. Heres two other sources for you. Put you coffee and donut down and chew on that. LMAO!!
