Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle made the Pro Bowl as an alternate, but even he must know that’s not going to receive the $12.1 million he’s scheduled to next season.
That huge number (salary plus bonus) was put into Rolle’s contract to force a renegotiation. Rolle said recently to the Arizona Repbublic that he won’t take a pay cut, but it’s unclear if he meant a paycut from $12 million or a pay cut from his 2009 salary.
Either way, it will be a tricky deal for the Cardinals to close. They are already paying safety Adrian Wilson a ton of money and Rolle is not the same caliber of player as Wilson.
Rolle’s career has been up and down, but he’d love to hit the open market this offseason when few young quality players are available. He could drive a hard bargain.

Screw him. I’ll take the job.
He’s a dang good safety that’ll hit and has good ball skills. He has value.
@ AZ Red Bird
He may be a good safety and have value, but he doesn’t have $12million in value!
I’ve got bad news for him…he’s taking a pay cut.
Come play Safety for the Vikings!
Rolle is worth half of that. Backloaded contracts are killing the Cardinals, thankfully there isn’t a cap to worry about now.
Of course he doesn’t wanna take a paycut. He just got a huge bill from the IRS.
One thing to realize here is Rolle’s contract was for a cornerback. He was drafted to play CB and that’s why his numbers on his contract are outrageous because corners get paid more money than free or strong safety types.
Maybe the Eagles should look out for this guy. They could use a good safety in their secondary, which looked like a JV team this year
This is stupid. The team gave him his contract, they shouldn’t be going back on that just because they think he’s not worth it now. He shouldn’t back down… theres bound to be a team that would take a young safety of his caliber.
Whta dumba$$ in the Cards organization saddled them with all these mega-contracts? Find that guy and shoot him.
The Cards hold all the cards on this one LOL
