Saints will have a parade win or lose

Over the last few weeks, there have been various examples of how New Orleans is well, different.

I went to college there and can report it’s an awesome sort of different.  Singular.  There isn’t another place in the world like it and anyone that says otherwise hasn’t spent time there or deserves sympathy for being joyless.

It’s only a small example, but the news that the city is planning a parade for the Saints win or lose says it all.

The parade will go off on Tuesday, February 9 in the afternoon or evening, and will be coordinated Mardi Gras organizer Barry Kern and the mayor’s office.

The town is going to enjoy this moment in time, no matter how it ends.

One team is just happy to be there, the other has been there, and won’t be happy without winning it all.

I think that’s great. I hope the Saints can pull it off, though. I think the city deserves it, and that’s not more Katrina pity. Before the hurricane, the city of New Orleans was only mentioned in regards to 2 things: the dudes who sat in the stands with the paper bags that said “Ain’ts” on them and boobies for beads. After Katrina, it’s been getting a little stale with all the bickering back and forth. I think the city deserves some kind of positive outcome and a little name recognition beyond tragedy and toys (giggity) would be a breath of fresh air.

Some people are saying how the Colts will kill the Saints. If it happens, so what. It is the path to the Super Bowl that has electrified the city. There is so much energy running through the city and nearby areas. No one thought the Saints would make it to the big game in their lifetime. There have been bad decisions every year. Aaron Brooks? Mike Ditka? Ricky Williams trade? Russell Erxleben? Since Sean Payton and Drew Brees were hired, people have taken off the paper bags. The fact that they have a chance to win the Super Bowl has caused so much seratonin to run through these depressed bodies that the attitude of the city has changed.

What sports fan does not wish there team was in the Super Bowl. and my comment did not mention one time that I believe they should be there and not the Aints. The Vikings ( you mispelled that in your comment) lost the game I am not going to dispute that but I know one thing for sure there were no parties or parades for them losing the NFC Championship game.
my comment was how rediculous it is for a losing team to through a party for losing the Super Bowl.
I have to listen to NO residents complain about how much still isnt done after Katrina and how much the govt will not do and yet there is plenty of money and time for partying. This is typical of the attitude of those who want everybody to do something for them. It is called priorities and that town should get them in the proper order.

BigEasy, most of the queens players dropped out of the pro bowl. I never knew bruised egos actually counted as a injury.

  21. metmac says: Jan 28, 2010 9:53 PM

    All Vikings fans:
More yards and turnovers do not win games. As Vikingsfaninpa said it best, your team’s score was lower than the Saint’s so you lost, get over it. No trophy, no parade, no soup for you (are you serious…?). Go watch your 26 players in the Pro Bowl. Show your viking pride rather than disdain for the team that beat you. Losers.

looks like im putting my money on indy

  23. awoods1906 says: Jan 28, 2010 10:14 PM

And the Saints didn’t plan the parade, the city did. This is a city that loves to party and is used to hosting and participating in big events. Remember these fans show up at the airport after regular road games, let alone the Bayou Classic, Essence, Sugar Bowl, Final Four’s etc.
Maybe just maybe the city is happy to celebrate a successful season, and make no mistake about it an NFC South Championship, an NFC Championship, and a Super Bowl Berth is an accomplishment. I recognize that some fans of teams that didn’t make the Super Bowl will downplay the accomplishment but last I checked every organization raises division and conference championship banners so certainly it is an accomplishment.
In terms of the team, I am fairly sure that the team is focused on winning the Super Bowl and not a parade.
Not only are envy, bitterness, anger, and hatred works of the flesh, the enemy uses them to make the subject appear stupid. Debating on the basis of these emotions, lacks logic and sanity.

  24. Mark0226 says: Jan 28, 2010 10:17 PM

For those of you talking about the Saints’ mentality about being in the game and throwing a parade even if they lose, you should consider this ONE minor fact…
The parade is NOT being thrown BY the Saints organization, but by the CITY in appreciation of the team’s achievements. In 43 years of existence, this is the first time they have ever made it to the game, so yes, the city and the fans are thrilled just to be there. The Saints TEAM goal, however, is to WIN. They are not just happy to be there. They want to bring the trophy home to New Orleans. And New Orleans Saints fans appreciate that.

  25. Vikingsfaninpa says: Jan 28, 2010 10:20 PM

Are you really this ignorant. No one said a word about the Pro Bowl. And never did I say in any of my previous comments that I would not continue to support the Vikings team wether it was in the Pro Bowl or next season.
My point was you DONT GET A WINNERS PARADE FOR LOSING THE SUPER BOWL. The key words are Winners and Losing. Now if you are the loser you dont get a parade for losing. Now if you win I dont know a city that doesnt throw a parade in celebration of WINNING.
Now put into context what I wrote concerning the Saints throwing a victory parade even if they lose the Super Bowl. Below is my original post:
Of course it goes right inline with everybody is a winner. No one has to lose, we are all winners.
sorry but if your score is lower than the Colts then that means you lose. no trophy, no parade no soup for you.
I praise the Saints for winning. I mean they came out on top and never have I said other wise. There is no disdain, Vikes lost end of story.
You are so missing the point. It isnt disdain for the Saints its the fact you get a victory parade for losing makes no sense. You are taking the Victory out of Victory Parade. Stop it.

  26. Vikingsfaninpa says: Jan 28, 2010 10:24 PM

I dont doubt you when you say it is not the Saints and it is the city. I figured that.
So you are saying if they lose it then becomes a we were close parade. What joke.

  27. Pervy Harvin says: Jan 28, 2010 10:24 PM

We don’t have loser parades in MN. We won’t settle for that. Guess we expect more.

Exactly what N.O. residents have you listened to? Our team is winning so we aren’t allowed to enjoy it? I get sick of every little thing that happens getting turned back to katrina and somebody else telling us how to act, especially you pasty-white poo poo er’s in Minnesota. Your helmet color matches your attitude well. It’s called sour grapes. As far as priorites- blow it out your ass. This city is moving forward so stop trying top move it back with your assinine comments. One last thing – get your priorites in line- 1.) off season.

  29. .VoxVeritas says: Jan 28, 2010 10:38 PM

Party on. So what. It’s a party city looking for another reason to party, as if they need a reason. Hell, this just gives them a theme.

  30. Vikingsfaninpa says: Jan 28, 2010 10:39 PM

NO ONE EVER SAID DONT ENJOY the great season. I mean the Saints had a great season so did 4 other teams who made it to the last week of the playoffs.
But if you lose the Super Bowl you dont get a Super Bowl Victory Parade. Why is this so hard to understand? Repeat key word is Victory.

  31. WashingtonRedstorms says: Jan 28, 2010 10:45 PM

    And others…
Not that any of you would understand this. This is Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. This is one of several parades that will happening during this time frame. This one will feature the Saints, others will feature other themes.
This is not a victory parade – it is a parade during parade season. Guess you kind of have to be there to understand – kind of like cheese curds in Wisconsin/Minnesota.
On a different note – came across a few trivia facts …
The first overall selection of the 1961 Draft was Tommy Mason from Tulane University (my alma mater). Didn’t work out extremely well.
In 1975, the Vikings lost it’s 3rd SB at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans.
Came across the recap from the 2008 Saints Vikings game and it is eerily similar, Saints out gained the Vikes in yardage, and time of possession but had 4 turnovers to the Vikings 0. I can’t imagine how a team could turn the ball over 4 times and still be within 3 pts (last sec FG) of winning. Wait did this just happen? LOL!!! Happens all the time.

Yeah, but you don’t have any Mardi Gras parades, so what you do in MN is not really relevant. Mardi Gras is Feb 16th. Parades always start weeks in advance, so adding one more parade specific to celebrating the Saints winning of the NFC Championship and possibly winning the Super Bowl is not really a big stretch. This is not MN we’re talking about. Unless you’ve been to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras season, you have no idea what you are talking about.

  35. vtopa says: Jan 28, 2010 11:04 PM

Get a grip. Every year losing teams from the Superbowl get a parade from their home city (e.g., Arizona). This is not a “Saints” thing or a “New Orleans” thing. For those bitter Vikings fans out there, get over it. Just because New Orleans loves its team more than Minny loves the Vikings is no reason to be bitter. No wonder your franchise is headed for L.A.

  36. RayDaMayor says: Jan 28, 2010 11:11 PM

I am loving the fact that New Orleans is being given little to no chance in this matchup. That’s exactly the kind of thinking that will fire this team up to play lights out in the SuperBowl.
    Upset in the works folks.

  37. ReadForComprehension says: Jan 28, 2010 11:11 PM

Where did anyone call it a victory parade? It’s a thank you parade, put on by the city and the citizens to show gratitude to the team for their hard work this season. We tried to do it in 2006 but organizers waited too long and couldn’t pull it off while those who live away from town in the off season left New Orleans. If you don’t understand it, too bad for you. If you don’t like it, nobody is forcing you to read the article and posting negative comments about it just reveals your inner beauty.
