Source: Freeney’s ankle is worse than advertised

Amid reports that Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney might not attend the Pro Bowl in order to obtain further treatment for his sprained ankle, a league source tells us that Freeney definitely won’t be going to the Pro Bowl, barring dramatic improvement of the injury.

Per the source, Freeney’s ankle is worse than reported by the media.

Freeney injured the ankle late in the AFC title game.

He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the team’s official practice report.

Also missing practice on Thursday was defensive back Melvin Bullitt (knee) and defensive back Jerraud Powers (foot). Bullitt fully participated in practice on Wednesday.

Limited in practice on Thursday were defensive back Antoine Bethea (back) and tight end Jacob Tamme (ankle).

Fifteen Colts players fully participated in practice on Thursday despite injuries, including running back Joseph Addai (shoulder), linebacker Gary Brackett (knee), running back Donald Brown (foot), tackle Ryan Diem (elbow), defensive back Aaron Francisco (hand), running back Mike Hart (ankle), linebacker Ramon Humber (knee), defensive tackle Antonio Johnson (shoulder), tackle Charlie Johnson (foot), defensive end Robert Mathis (shoulder), guard Jamey Richard (shoulder), defensive back Jamie Silva (hand), tackle Tony Ugoh (knee), kicker Adam Vinatieri (hip), and receiver Reggie Wayne (knee).

So that’s 20 injured Colts, with Freeney the biggest name about which the team needs to worry over the next 10 days.
