Patriots hire new defensive backs coach

Corwin Brown, who last worked as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, has accepted a position that will keep him in the Belichick coaching tree.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Brown will be the next defensive backs coach of the Patriots. Brown played for the Jets when Belichick was an assistant there, and coached defensive backs in New York between 2004-2006 before joining Charlie Weis’ staff at Notre Dame.

It’s unclear if New England’s last defensive backs coach, Josh Boyer, is taking a different job with the Patriots or moving elsewhere. The Patriots traditionally don’t announce coaching changes until their entire staff is set. The defensive coordinator position remains open.

UPDATE: The Patriots confirmed Brown was added to the staff, but didn’t say in what position.
