As I Vikings fan, I was skeptical about Favre coming to MN. But he was amazing in every respect. An amazing teammate, mentor, and warrior. And it’s comical to see all of you “haters” ignore his stats ALL YEAR LONG. He led the league in TD/INT ratio among starters (among many other categories). It speaks for itself when a team with 10 Pro Bowlers are all wanting him back – to the point where they don’t even care if he shows at camp! That’s how big a part of this team he is, and hopefully WILL be in the 2010 season.
I think Favre will be back, but I think it’s understandable that he needs some time to really evaluate his ability to play at the same level for an entire season. Favre is NOT like so many guys that play past their prime and are forced to be benched. Once he is SURE that he can do it (around August!) he’ll be back…

What the hell does winning a SB MVP have anything to do with it? Favre won the regular season MVP that year…if you want to talk MVP’s.
Further…
Favre was 14-27, 246 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT that game.
Peyton Manning was 25-38, 247 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT when he beat the Bears in the SB…Manning won MVP (when Dominic Rhodes should have won it to be honest).
In other words, your SB MVP angle makes no sense.

I don’t think he should be referenced as “one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.” He should be called “one of the most experienced, knowledgeable, and durable quarterbacks of all time.” He has no more SuperBowl trophies than Trent Dilfer, and he has personally blown more than his fair shown of deep advancement into postseason opportunities than anyone deserves (interceptions/losses to Phil, NY, NO…just to name a few.)

Brett Favre, if he retires (please, please, please) is going out on top–of his game. Does that make you feel better? The man is 40 years old, just completed what was probably his 2nd or 3rd best season in his career, got his butt kicked all over the Superdome and did not miss one down of play. How in the world can you say he is not going out on top? In your world only Elway, Bettis & Strahan went out on top. I’ll bet Montana, Marino, Young, Emmitt Smith and a whole lot of other HOF’ers would disagree with you.

I certainly do not hate Favre or the Vikes, quite the opposite actually, and I care quite a bit whether or not he comes back. I love the daily Favre stories, they get the jealous trolls out in full force, (and yes Jimmy we did want him, and yes we did get him) It’s awesome. They call Favre a diva for having stories written about him daily, when he’s not made a public appearance since he was required to do so after the game. Not a very good diva. It makes me laugh when they say stuff about retiring with class, their jealousy and bitterness could not be more obvious.

Why should he retire if he does not want to? Have you people looked at the talent within the league at QB, it is sad. He had a great year and regardless of all the talking heads he did not lose the champonship game all by himself. I think you who follow football saw the Colts without Manning, it is that way with most teams and I’m talking about starters not backups.

Why do people forget about the history of Favre and say, “OH, but he got us so close to the Super Bowl. Next year will be different.” ??

Every year since then, either he has played poorly during the regular season, or he has choked in the playoffs. Every year. How will next year be any different?? It won’t, assuming he “retires” so he can skip training camp.. then returns at the last minute and plays another season, and then history repeats itself.
We can only hope that this drama queen will finally do us all a favor and retire for good and disappear forever. I’ve never seen a more selfish person in all of pro sports.

There’s been 43 Super Bowl champions led by 26 different QB’s. Favre was one of them. If you want to talk about how Brett Favre has been miserable in the playoffs LATELY, you have a case. The worst part about this whole scenario is that even if the Vikings decide to move on from Favre, he could simply offer up his services to Arizona, assuming that Kurt Warner retires today.
They don’t run a Favresque offense, but they certainly have the receivers that Minnesota doesn’t, and I cannot believe that they are ready to throw their support behind Matty L. unless they absolutely have to.
Why not bring in a one year mercenary (because that’s what Favre is now) to go for one last shot at glory before they move Boldin.

Favre is the Andy Reid of QBs. Wins a lot of regular season games. Gets to the playoffs a lot. Doesn’t win championships and when he loses, he loses ugly and stupid.

His goal was to get to the Vikings to win a Super Bowl. Even with the best personnel in the league, he leads them to yet another shot at futility.

Conundrum? What conundrum?
You keep making a story out of a non-story.
Clue: If Favre decides to retire, proceed with what you have. No harm, no foul.
If Favre says he’s coming back in March, June or August – great! If Jackson or Rosenfels don’t like it, it’s 2 versus 51. It’s probably the same ratio in Arizona. Maybe 0 to 53 there since Leinart looks like the kind of guy who doesn’t mind collecting big bucks without getting bruised.

People have the right to like or dislike BF but comments like Doughboy’s shows he knows little about football and when a players skills have eroded to the point that it is obvious they should retire.
As for JimmySmith…I visit all teams web/fan sites and you should try to do the same before you post. I realize many people live with an infliction of “perception becoming reality” but if it is correct to call BF a “choker”, then every QB who does not win the SB would have to be categorized as the same…….would that then include A Rodgers, as it is well known that JJ is a Packer fan. I try not to let the “trash talkin’ posters” idiotic opinions bother me but sometimes you wonder what world these people live in…..I guess it’s just too easy to make idiotic internet posts when you can hide behind a anonymous title. Like or dislike BF’s wishy washy retirement, I can understand THAT but to “pretend” that he is not one of the best 3 QB’s in the history of football only makes you look like a fool. Favre doesn’t have nearly as many troubles as the media likes to drum up for him. I also really love the fact that all the Favre haters are out thumping their chests triumphiantly proclaiming that he ‘choked’ again…did you watch the game? if you’d like to point fingers then you should really look at the entire team. how many sacks did the mighty Jarred Allen have? how about the rest of the line? what…one sack? how many fumbles did the rest of the team have? no no no, you’re right…Favre choked again. if only he were better the vikings would be in the super bowl. give me a break. you’d think that a web site like this would have more intelligent football fans…I’m gonna go ahead and guess that the smarter ones just don’t comment as much.

What should happen: Favre sits down very soon with the Vikings and works out an agreement that he’ll attend some the offseason workouts, but for the most part stays at home until training camp. He also agrees to hire a trainer to keep in shape. Then Favre and the Vikings announce their plan. Everything is out in the open and done. Then there is no story.
Of course this won’t happen because this is Favre, and he has to play his off-season games. As does Chilly. Plus Favre wants their to be a story, because he likes his name mentioned every 30 seconds on ESPN.
Look, Favre’s coming back, and you can’t blame him. The fans in Minnesota still want him, as well as the org and players. Plus he stands to make $13 million next year. He and everyone else knows the Vikings are a better team with him than without. But if you’re a 40-year-old QB and a team is willing to pay you $13 million, you don’t play offseason games with them. That will turn the fans and org and players against as much as anything you do on the field could.

Think about how hard it would be for you to walk away from a job you’ve loved for 30 years.
Yes Favre is old.
Yes Favre throws a lot of interceptions.
Also remember for the Vikings, the team was on the doorstep last year and was a quarterback away. With TJack, the Vikings win 10 games in 2009 DESPITE the quarterback. With Sage, the Vikings win 10 games. Who wouldn’t take a proven veteran at that point?
Please keep in mind Childress is a horrible coach. Ummmm, aaaaahhhh, ummmm ahhhhhh, well aahhhh. I guesss, aaaaaah the 12 men in the huddle was aaaaaahh kind of my fault aaaaaahhhhh.
Of course the Vikings want Favre back because he is better than any of the options they have. Want to blame someone for how much of a diva Favre is? Blame the Packers organization.
