McKinnie: I'm too injured for Pro Bowl

Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie has gone into damage-control mode after being kicked off the NFC Pro Bowl squad.
“Had to withdraw from Pro Bowl!” McKinnie tweeted Saturday afternoon.  “I’ve been playing thru pain the last month and need time 2 let my body heal.”
This begs the question: Why did he accept the invitation in the first place? Plenty of McKinnie’s banged-up teammates declined the opportunity to go to Miami.
“Been having some problems with my feet and ankle and I gotta give it a break,” McKinnie replied minutes later to a question on Twitter.  “I had a long season + my body is hurting.”
Perhaps most interestingly, McKinnie then gets into it with Willis McGahee on Twitter.  McGahee, his former college teammate, tweeted to McKinnie that his explanation was “b*ll sh*t.”
We don’t doubt that McKinnie is sore after an 18-game season.  But he is obviously not sore enough to stop clubbing, and clearly did not inform Pro Bowl coaches that he was injured.  Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that McKinnie did not withdraw from the Pro Bowl on his own.  He was dismissed.  So McKinnie isn’t too banged up to lie, either.

Mckinnie should be issuing an apology right about now. Just admit you’re wrong and get your act together. What an embarrassment this guy is.

  8. purpleguy says: Jan 30, 2010 3:49 PM

What a dope. He didn’t deserve to be there anyhow. Obviously, if he didn’t want to participate, he should’ve said so earlier. Probably couldn’t find any poles outside of Miami bars to to bonk defenders over the head with. Rest assured, he won’t have to worry about being in the Pro Bowl again.

    @garyl-
Ha! A TRUE all-pro laft tackle for Mr. Fumblerooskie? Nice try, but I think the hell not, dude! I think the consensus now is that AP might be a bit of a risk, no matter how good he is.

The Vikings window closing fast, that’s rich. Check out the Vikings last 3 drafts there Lebowski, and even compare them to your precious team. What’s the slogan for the Pack next season: “A great “young” and improving team for 4 years in a row — we’ll win the pre-season and be over-rated again in 2010″

  19. packerfanfornot4life says: Jan 30, 2010 4:25 PM

  22. mike says: Jan 30, 2010 4:44 PM

Im glad im not a queens fan. All things for the future revolve around uncertainty.
    1. Will Favre come back if he dont were screwed.
    2. Will we be able to get a new stadium deal done or we are done.

  23. spliffbunker says: Jan 30, 2010 4:51 PM

would love to see a suspension or at least a fine of a game check…how hard is it to beg out of the pro bowl ?….
I have never heard how a player gets out of it but imagine all it takes is the team trainer confirming an injury
I could care less about the Pro Bowl & for years due to injury risk have thought they should discontinue it but this guy shows no respect to fans, teammates & the NFL as a whole..
    enjoy your lapdances CLOWN

  24. MaybeNextYear says: Jan 30, 2010 4:55 PM

McKinnie has always, always been extremely overrated. Now, he somehow wrangles an undeserved Pro Bowl slot and then humiliates himself and embarrasses the Vikings by dragging his fat lazy ass all over South Beach partying all night AND TWEETING ABOUT IT while skipping essentially all Pro Bowl team meetings and practices.
And then when he finally does get something he deserves — kicked out of the Pro Bowl — he lies about it like a 12 year old.
    Obviously a complete idiot.
Not really a surprise, though. Most Vikes fans I know have never thought much of McKinnie — either as a player or as a person.
On a related note, this new approach to the Pro Bowl seems like a total failure. Will be interesting to see what the viewership/advertising $ numbers are like since I’m pretty sure that’s what will be the deciding factor.

  25. THEpackersAREwhere? says: Jan 30, 2010 4:59 PM

Why do people care about this? The Pro Bowl was a joke BEFORE it was moved to the week before the Pro Bowl. Nobody is going. Nobody cares. Interesting fact… Hall of Fame (pre-season game) tickets were way more expensive than tickets to the Pro Bowl. NOBODY CARES!

  26. Sterling says: Jan 30, 2010 5:05 PM

Wow. It is really astonishing how many people on this site apparently believe that playing a pro football game is akin to going to a nightclub. And here I thought football was a physical, punishing game where players sustain multiple hits, not something where you sit at a table and order drinks and maybe dance a little bit (“dancing” defined as anything including and beyond shrugging the shoulders while standing in place).
    What a bunch of snarks.

  27. Yellow Ledbetter says: Jan 30, 2010 5:07 PM

Mckinnie is just a hood rat from South Jersey, who happened to be born in an NFL player’s body.

Hey Bryant, does it itch? That sand in your vagina?

  29. scrapdawg12 says: Jan 30, 2010 5:21 PM

Mckinnie not only embarassed himself but he also embarrassed the Minnesota Vikings organization. What a fat over rated slob. This just shows what kind of character he got. Accepts the invitation then says “i’m injured” but he surely has enough strength and energy to go out clubbing/drinking/picking up chicks. It’s pretty simple what he was up to. Go home and rest or better yet, just quit like you did on your pro bowl team mates. He isn’t that good of a player anymore anyways. He takes plays off and shows up when he wants. Sound familiar?

  32. lebowski says: Jan 30, 2010 5:49 PM

purpleguy, you’re an idiot. You don’t think the Vikes got Favre for a one year shot at the Superbowl because they knew this was their time, and they better take advantage of it? If they felt they were young and upcoming, they would have been developing or drafting a young QB. The only position where they are young and solid is linebacker. They have an old QB who may retire. Phat Williams might retire. Kevin Williams is well into in his 30′s. Steve Hutchinson is almost done. Ditto McKinnie. They just lost Birk last year. Winfield is starting to break down, and your good young corner just tore his ACL. Your safeties suck. Stop being a homer and open your friggin eyes dude. Even your best rookie, Harvin, misses half the time because of a migraine problem that won’t go away, and half your fans are calling for you to trade Peterson because he can’t hang onto the ball. Meanwhile, the Packers are getting old at tackle and corner, but TJ Lang WILL be a starting right tackle, and Tramon Williams is a solid young corner. Safeties are young, and one in the pro bowl. Linebackers are young, one in the pro bowl. Defensive line, Raji, Jenkins and Jolly are all young. Pro bowl QB in his mid 20′s. Greg Jenning, ditto. Great young TE. Yes, we are up and coming and you are just going…. away.

As a vikings fan, I was actually shocked to find this guy received a pro-bowl spot, but then I remembered the pro-bowl is a joke anyways. but with that being said, he is definitely overrated and a slob. I thought this year he was doing pretty well until the last few games down the stretch. he’s a POS person and an average tackle at best… I hope the Vikings draft O-Linemen and Defensive Backs this year.

  35. JimmySmith says: Jan 30, 2010 6:13 PM

He is a Viking so to call him an asshole is redundant. What do you call a guy who is arrested for beating a guy over the head with a metal pole at 6:30 AM in the morning? No, not stupid, that is reserved for his head coach for sending 12 guys into the huddle. He is a lying fat bastard who should be suspended, provided the Minnesota state court system will allow the NFL to do that.

I find it funny how people on this site actually think their opinion matters, and think that they will have an effect on anything football related.
these ‘have fun on the sex boat MKinnie’, or ‘have fun at the strip club having sex with dozens of women’ or ‘the vikings are just a bunch of punks that like to have sex on boats and at strip clubs’ comments that are meant to be insults are just insanely funny.
I’m sure Bryant Mkinnie reads these posts before he goes out to make sure the bloggers approve of his actions. I’m sure he feels very guilty about getting ass every single night whenever he wants it, in the ass capital of the world, miami.
you’re all morons to think your teams player aren’t doing this either. why do you think they have the superbowl/ pro bowl in miami or hawaii? they go to clubs and bang bang bang. just a typical day.

Yeah, let him blow off his friends, family, and fun to practice for a fake ass game that doesn’t mean anything. Get a life.
I wish some of you jackasses would get your heads out of your ass. This isn’t a thing to be upset with any normal, heterosexual man about. The only people that I think are commenting here have never been on South Beach. Don’t project your jealousy.

  42. Vikes-N-Favre says: Jan 30, 2010 6:46 PM

Good for McKinney. I wish none of the Vikings would play in this game. The NFL doesn’t deserve to see any of the Vikings play in this game. The NFL and their officials screwed the Vikings out of a possible SB Title, so the NFL can f@ck off.
I just hope that next year that Jared Allen and company take a cheap shot on Drew Brees and knock him out for the season. Take a fine and a suspension, it will be worth seeing that cheating team holding their breath on the way to a pathetic season. I don’t usually wish injury on any player, but in this circumstance, I would love to see it. All it would be is payback for the Saints defense taking cheap shots on Warner and Favre this year. So its only fitting that Brees takes a few illegal hits and needs help getting off the field.
While we are at it, I would love nothing more then to see the officials in the Vikings/Aint’s game to get what they have coming. Maybe they will get hit many times by players next year. One can only hope. Hopefully it ends their football days as they suck at what they do anyways.

Man are the sour grapes from minni fans getting old. First off, getting selected to the pro-bowl is an honor, one which McKinnie disrespected. Second, are you even aware of how many late hits vikings players dole out? If the vikings had pounded Brees and won, I’m sure you wouldn’t have objected and would be calling Saints fans whiners. If the shoe fits wear it

  45. danielcp0303 says: Jan 30, 2010 7:23 PM

Percy Harvin – Nobody really knows how good any of those players are, with Favre they were really good. Before him they survived on AP alone. You do have talented young guys, but that doesn’t mean anything without a qb. I hate Favre, but he’s better than Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

Yes, we are up and coming and you are just going…. away.
    =============================
First off, OT & CB are the most important positions on the field along with DE after the QB.
Second, the fact that you use Lang & Williams as examples of what you have for the future just proves what trouble you’re in. You also forget to mention an old WR (your back-ups are just that – back-ups) and an aging LB who has battled injuries. Your O-line still has far more questions than answers.
Third, while I like Rodgers, he has yet to prove he can win a big game or consistantly bring his team from behind to victory. You don’t go far as a team without being able to do these things.
Fourth, so you’re young, good for you! Young does not necessarily translate to being good. Take your comment about your safeties for example. How did they look against Arizona, Pittsbrugh or both games with Minnesota. Players like Jolly & Raji are inconsistant at best and lets see if Matthews is able to pass his drug tests. I do like your young players like Rodgers, Jennings & Finley but many still have a lot to prove.
Remember, with injuries, trades, contract disputes and retirements the only thing certain about the NFL is uncertainty.

Says he “had a long season”? Whereas everybody else had a short season? His body is hurting? Whereas everybody else’s feels good about now? Anyway, that body sure wasn’t hurt through ProBowl practices, since he didn’t attend any – Strib reports he missed FOUR practices. Still, maybe his arm is exhausted from all the hoisting, or his legs from running around to clubs. Doesn’t it all work out sweetly, though, for good ol’ Bryant, that somehow he didn’t discover all this horrendous pain until after he had lapped up four days at somebody else’s expense, and left other players in the lurch?
On reconsideration, though, it’s probably the organizer’s fault, or the other players. Probably nobody read him the practice schedule, bet they didn’t even tell him THERE’S A GAME COMIN’ UP, GUY!!
