Joey Porter requests trade

Appearing on ESPN’s Jim Rome Show Monday, Dolphins outside linebacker Joey Porter said he wants to be traded.

“I don’t get paid like a rotation guy,” Porter said. “So I’m not ready to take that role. I’m still a starter. I can honestly say I won’t come back to do that. Why keep a guy there that you want to make a role player?”

Just last week, PFT’s Mike Florio reported that the team does not intend to bring Porter back anyway. Tony Sparano’s coaching staff is sick of Porter refusing to come off the field when told. Porter was also deactivated for a November game for off-the-field reasons.

Porter, 33 in March, had nine sacks in 2009 and could probably still help a team as a pass rusher in the nickel defense. But he obviously believes he’s more than a situational player.

The trade market will be barren for Porter because of his attitude, so-so production, and relatively hefty contract. Most likely, he will be released later this month.
