Manning, Sharper engage in war of words

With six days left before Super Bowl XLIV, tension is mounting between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.

Peyton Manning referred to Darren Sharper as "Jamie" during an interview Sunday night.  Manning was apparently pretending to confuse the Saints' free safety with former Ravens and Texans linebacker Jamie Sharper.  Jamie has been out of football since 2005.

According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, Sharper got back at the Colts' quarterback by calling him "Eli" on Monday.

Sharper, of course, has owned the Giants' quarterback throughout his career.  The five-time Pro Bowler has picked off Eli four times, returning three of them for touchdowns.

I seriously doubt Manning "pretended" not to know Sharper's correct first name.

    That being said,

Maybe on Media Day Jim Caldwell will refer to the '09 Saints as the '85 Bears cause thats the type of performance they are going to put on Sunday,

"Manning was apparently pretending to confuse the Saints' free safety"

haven't seen the interview but how exactly do we know he was pretending...did we have a cerified profesional midreader on the premises?

Sharper, though, has never intercepted Archie's better son.

    Define "better", Florio...c'mon brother.

That's what you call a "war of words"? Two players, not known for their big mouths, engage in a little light ribbing by "accidentally" calling each other the wrong name? STOP THE PRESSES! BORROW THE DRUDGE REPORT SIREN!

We shouldn't make light of this, it could escalate, next thing you know there could be bubble guns, pillow fights, and, if it goes unchecked long enough, eventually spitballs and rubber bands.

This of course would be followed by months and months of therepy, probably topped off with an apperance on Dr. Phil.

    Farves sweet hair,
Eli is a pussy? He hasn't missed a game in his career and has played with a dislocated throwing shoulder, which he was told he would be out 4-6 weeks, and that painful ankle injury from last season. Also, It's Favre not Farve you idiot.

  31. GoBears84 says: February 1, 2010 8:08 PM

    Nor will he, ever....

Stone Cold Steve Manning comes in there next week and puts in work. End of story. Only story is if freeny's defense can hold em off. I don't see the NO D shutting down the greatest as much as I see Indy's D playing "good enough".

  32. mrf47 says: February 1, 2010 8:08 PM

What's Sharper's problem with Cooper Manning?

  33. dowens11 says: February 1, 2010 8:09 PM

This will be a big deal if (1) Eli continually torches Jamie, which he did to a former Colts DB that became a Saint and mouthed off but his name escapes me, or (2) Jamie picks Eli off a time or two or returns an INT or fumble.

I could see either scenario unfolding, but as great as Eli is, it seems more probable that Jamie steal a few big plays than Eli consistently burning one of the most opportunistic Safeties ever. We all saw what Mr. Reed did in the B'More game when Sac' re Bleu' Pierre saved the day!

  34. BigEasy says: February 1, 2010 8:14 PM

F Manning and the Colts.....they're dead to us and after Sunday Peyton will know that Darren Sharper owns the Manning Boys and his brother Jamie played for the Ravens and the Texans.....

Sharper is on the All-Decade team, brother...thats just intentional on his part.....so on Sunday when that 15yd penalty flys in the 1st qtr for roughing the Pu$$y.....my money is on Sharper to give the "REMEMBER ME" shot called out by Williams!!!

Everyone is leaving them for dead. "They don't have a chance" is what's being said

Actually, no. The Saints were the #1 seed in the NFC. They had a great season and have a high-powered offense. I know it is nice for the Saints to always play the underdog card, but you really can't.

A #1 seed can inherently only be a slight underdog. If the Saints were a wild card team, then it would be a Cinderella story.

Assuming Freeney can't play: Saints 31, Colts 27, and we can finally stop hearing about how this is a tough luck franchise.
