Judy Battista of the New York Times reports that the NFL Players Association and the owners’ labor committee will meet this week regarding the possibility of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora has separately confirmed the news. The meeting will take place prior to Saturday’s general meeting of the owners.
While the meeting would seem to indicate progress as the sides prepare for an uncapped 2010 season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has already strongly expressed doubt that a CBA extension might be agreed upon at this time.

Packers Suck!!
With so many people struggling to pay their bills, losing their jobs, and losing their homes, the “average joe” cannot understand why a bunch of millionairs can’t agree on how many millions of dollars they should earn.
In this economy it’s bizzare.
The NHL learned the hard way. Will the NFL have to learn the hard way too?
greedy ass players are the problem…
I predict nothing will get done. Bye-bye salary cap.
Big and small market owners need to agree on collective strategy first.
it’s not so much the greedy ass players, as it is the greedy ass attorneys who represent the rookies who are getting paid big bucks and not contributing, and taking cap space away from the veterans who really deserve it.
First item on the agenda is a rookie cap, and there will not be an active player in the league who will have a problem with that, since its more money for them. Then the revenue share which the greedy ass players will have a problem with, because the greedy ass owners want more.
They (players) get paid very well for what they do! Playing football. Try working in a factory! Get it done!
Don’t hate. This is not an average joe situation so you can’t look at it that way. The stakes are much higher in terms of money and power
I hope they come up with some sort of agreement!!
The only people that seem concerned about the future of the game is the fans. I’ve never been rich so I’m at a loss to understand the respective positions of both parties. One may suppose that it’s just the Nature of the Beast.
GO STEELERS!
both sides are just being a–holes! get it done!
jamaicamecrazy is correct, the nfl had better learn from the nhl!
With the economy in the toilet attending games has already been priced out of many people’s ability to go. Not just inflated ticket prices that in many markets you can only get through brokers at 2 or 3 times the face value, but $7-10 beers, $30-40 parking, $10 burgers and chicken sandwiches, the list goes on.
If anything the salary cap does need to go down and the pricing on everything needs to be reduced.
Personally I’m starting to get very bored with the NFL and its refusal to deal with the horrid quality of the refereeing, no rookie pay scale, inability to discipline or recover monies from players who holdout or otherwise create problems while getting paid a fortune, the league is close to losing me as a fan. There are plenty of other things to do and spend my money on.
The greed of both sides in this is going to be the final straw. If there is a lockout or stoppage of games in 2011 I will be finding another way to entertain myself.
And the Vikings still stink.
