Jay Novacek's wife passes away

The wife of former Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek was discovered dead Monday morning at their Burleson home in Texas.

The cause of death is unknown, but at 8:05 a.m. Monday Burleson police and fire departments responded to “a report of medical emergency, possibly suicide” at the couple’s residence.  The body was found in the bedroom.
Novacek confirmed his wife’s death to NBC Sports.  He did not confirm whether it was a suicide.
Novacek played 11 years in the league, mostly for Dallas.  He made five Pro Bowls.
LeAnne Novacek, 45, is survived by her husband and their daughter McKinley.

Damn im sorry to hear this. Although if he was black im sure Florio would have posted it, and made up some story to make it sound like Jay was involved, even though they wouldn’t really be saying he was involved.

Evan, Mike, whoever is running the message board for this article, don’t post shit like what BostonISaChraphole is saying. That shit is garbage and that clown clearly doesn’t have anything intelligent to say on ANY matter.
Thoughts and prayers out to Jay and his family. This is never the news we want to hear.

I think him being a part of the Cowboys in the early 90s implies more than enough.

Terrible to hear about this. Jay has always been a class act and I recall him doing charitable stuff with her including a cook book they put together.
    RIP.

I am a Cowboy hater of many years but that doesn’t keep me from recognizing Novacek’s enormous talent or from being saddened at this news. At a time like this, people are just human beings in pain and it has nothing to do with football.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Very sad, There are points in life that people are so confused that they do things like this.
    But still so sad

Although it hasn’t officially been ruled a suicide, Channel 8 news here in Dallas is reporting that she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Very tragic if this is indeed the cause.
This is absolutely horrible news and my heart goes out to Jay and their daughter. Jay exemplified good sportsmanship on the football field and was always a class act off it. There couldn’t be a more un-deserving person for something so tragic to happen to.
Hopefully the Novacek family will find comfort in knowing that whatever troubled LeAnne can trouble her no longer. My sincere condolences…

    My Condolences 84.
As you gave me much happiness while you were on the field, I can only humbly offer my prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.
    God Bless.

    Ouch.
When a woman dies at 45 without them noting a history of illness, it’s usually one of two things.
It’s unfortunate that she (or anyone) would do that.

    To BostonISaChraphole:
Good job. Don’t let a sad story get in the way of you sounding like an ass and ripping on Florio. Maybe Boston is a “chraphole” because you are there.
And that brings up another point. To all you Florio-haters out there, if you don’t like his Web site/posts, then don’t come to the site. It’s that simple. No, I do not know Florio personally, but I do listen to him on the (well listened to) Dan Patrick show and he seems like an alright guy.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Jay, McKinley, and the rest of their family. I grew up watching him also and he was awesome.

Contrary to Evan Silva’s story, her body was not found “at the couple’s residence” but at her mother’s home. This according to the News8 video found here.

  32. DallasDeathStar says: Feb 2, 2010 11:10 AM

So sorry to hear such sad news. God Bless Jay and his family during this sad time. Be strong.

@ TFBuckFutte your comment was uncalled for. We Dallas fans all know the Cowboys had a few criminals on the roster during the 90′s but Jay was not one. He was always a great role model. God Bless the Novacek family at this time
