JaMarcus shows off his bling

At a recent NBA game, Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was decked out with enough ice to make tolerable the warmer portions of Hell.

Here’s the video evidence.

Said the announcer, whose voice we recognized but whose name escapes us, “You know, if he spent as much time in the film room as he did at the jewelry store he’d be a much better quarterback.”

Well it seems even the NBA people know what is wrong with JaMarcus Russell, the man is made of money, but he doesn’t even try to improve his football game.

  3. Naps says: Feb 2, 2010 11:03 AM

He better start showing off his QB skills otherwise he’ll be accused of stealing – big contract and absolutely no production!

The announcer should shut up and mind his own business.
If he wants to criticize Russell for his football play fine, but who is he to “dissaprove” of how much jewelry Russell wears?
The announcer is a complete a-hole jerk.

The other announcer was NBC Favorite Marv Albert I think.

Well thats nice that Ryan Leaf errr Jamarcus has the time to catch a basketball game seeing as his offseason is probably packed full with film study, gym, team facility working on getting better alllll offseason……
The offseason is for REAL football players who worked hard during the season. Jamarcus should be at work.

  18. geaux says: Feb 2, 2010 11:17 AM

As an LSU alum, Jamarcus is embarrassing.
When you’re in the discussion for biggest draft bust ever, and you’re wearing a necklace that features a diamond-encrusted self-photo and the word “Chosen”, along with about a million dollars worth of other diamond bracelets and rings, you clearly do not get it.
When you go to the 2007 BCS championship game as a former LSU player and wear a large diamond necklace that says “Bama Boy” featuring a giant elephant (a.k.a. the Crimson Tide logo), you clearly do not get it.
I hope for his sake that he doesn’t blow through his cash (which it sure looks like he’s doing) and still has some left over to live the rest of his life on, because he may not even be in the league in a couple of years. What a freaking shame.

Can someone please explain to me the love affair between a number of black athletes and diamonds?
    1. It says something about a guy who wears diamonds when most gay men (not that there’s anything wrong with that) won’t even touch them.
    2. If you’re white you don’t wear gold jewelry – stick with the platinum, silver, and tungsten.
    3. Necklaces should always be concealed, unless you’re a chick.
    4. Necklaces shouldn’t be worn by men. Ever. Even those stupid Phiten things that idiotic baseball players wear need to be ditched.
    5. Wearing a non-wedding ring should not be an everyday ritual for a guy.

  29. 6250claimer says: Feb 2, 2010 11:23 AM

Raider season ticket holders and fans who buy their merchandise (are there any left??), that’s your hard-earned cash you’re seeing there, hanging around the neck and all over the hands and arms of this fat bastard, worthless waste of an excuse for an NFL quarterback. The faster that Al Davis realizes that this malingerer is the biggest bust in NFL history and cuts him loose, the better off the world will be. This just makes me want to puke.

Culpepper was actually a decent QB for a number of years. So I fail to see the correlation between a pathetic waste of human existence and a Guy who at least tried make his mark on the league just because they both wore too much jewelry. One of them actually earned it.

Wow, not many business or math majors post on PFT I see. He signed a gauranteed contract for around 30 mill, his total contract is somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 mill. A million dollars worth of jewelry won’t even be missed. Did he earn it..No, but was he supposed to say ” No Mr Davis, I’d much rather sign for the league minimum.” The system is flawed. Can’t blame the players for taking the money. If he never gets another contract, It’s very unlikely he will ever have to work again. And all those ex-athletes that are now broke I bet didn’t see $20 mill, maybe 3-4, but not 20. I’m not a fan of Jamarcus, but alot of you sound like some jealous females commenting on what another man buys/wears.

  62. Brohamma says: Feb 2, 2010 12:14 PM

And who says that rookie contracts are NOT out of line?!
Here was the damage he did to the Raiders, dollar-wise.
9/10/2007: Signed a six-year, $61 million contract. The deal contains $32 million guaranteed, including all six years’ base salaries and a $19.9 million option bonus in the second year. Also available is a onetime performance bonus of $2.8 million. Another $7 million is available through incentives. Russell earned a $3 million escalator for 2010 by taking over 45% of the snaps in 2008. 2009: $7,805,880, 2010: $9.45 million, 2011: $9.35 million, 2012: $583,500 (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent
    That is just SICK money.
My bet… within three years of leaving the NFL he will be BROKE and on a crime spree; similar to that of Ryan Leaf.

Harlan is also an NFL commentator – got his start doing Chiefs radio (which might explain a little animosity toward Oakland?) – so it’s not like he doesn’t know a little of what he’s talking about.
But I’m absolutely sure that’s Harlan.

Citizen strange must be the water boy from JaMarcus’ HS team.. Why else would you be so inept and clueless to why people are crapping on JaMarcus? He is a major example of the problem of paying youngsters too much. Chris Johnson broke a handful of long standing records in his 2nd year and is due to make $580k next season. JaMarcus isnt even .500 as QB and he could buy Catalina Island with cash… Then to top it off he flaunts his money like he deserves it? I hope JaMarcus is Tim Tebows back up for the Argonauts soon.

  68. Carbondale Guy says: Feb 2, 2010 12:28 PM

Looking at that video of Russell I now know his problem as a pro football quarterback. He has “Girl Hands”. Look at his “beautiful slim” fingers. Then look at Brett Favre’s hands. He has, as Seinfeld once said, “Man Hands.” The difference is striking in both the hands and the results.

  69. blacktoothgrin says: Feb 2, 2010 12:30 PM

Yeah a million dollars worth of jewelry won’t be missed, but add in a couple million on cars and a couple million on houses and a couple million in losses to Vegas, and a couple million to all the hangers on and it’s not hard to imagine him ending up like MC Hammer doing Cash 4 Gold commercials

I agree he’ll be broke before 40…in jail by 50 for trying to get back all that $$$ via drug sales.
I’d laugh my butt off if anyone I knew even showed up with an extra ring on….one chain I can see, but any dude wearing ‘bling’ to be seen…has a serious ‘LOOK AT ME’ complex.
He’s a PERFECT model for anyone with a kid to watch….he’s rich now and think he’s special. He’ll be out of the league in 4 years and broke in 10. My son is 4, but if he was 12 or older I’d show him this and we’d have a Jamarcus Board up in our garage.

In case some of you haven’t figured it out yet, “Ja” marcus isn’t worried about football, his concerns are gold chains, grilles, and big rims on his whips… Smart move cript keeper Al

    Can you explain how?
Typical Packer fan comment – Culpepper had a good, if not great career going until he got hurt against Carolina.
    Russell has done nothing.
Is the comparison because they are both black quarterbacks making more money in a couple of years than you’ll ever see in your lifetime stocking shelves at Menard’s?
You sound like a jealous racist.
    —————————–
What’s the comparison? They’re both fat black QBs whose careers are over. They both wear a lot of jewelry.
And for the record.. Culpepper had a good, if not great, career going until he didn’t have Randy Moss on his team anymore.
Neither of these two players has what it takes between the ears to be a decent QB in the NFL. It has NOTHING to do with racism. So go cry racism somewhere else, zygi.

Man, if I ran an NFL team and had a high first round pick I would schedule the visit, and send the kid to a shrink for half of it, the first half, before I even considered letting him throw a football. This kind of behavior and attitude would have shown up in a rudimentary psych evaluation. Not saying they shouldn’t have drafted him, because if the light ever does turn on the kid might be salvageable. If I did draft one of these head cases I would send him to one of those boot camps to motivate people, then dump his ass in the woods about 30 miles deep with nothing but a bowie knife and an empty canteen. If you make it home without being eaten by a bear or mauled by a wolverine, and you manage to not wipe your ass with poison sumac, then you can QB my team.

Nope, I was actually baiting someone, like yourself, to call me a racist. It took a little while but sure enough some ignorant schmuck took the bait. I would like for you to do some research to remove your ignorance, call it a homework assignment. Research, in your case google, past QB’s and please find any images that show them wearing an insane amount of jewelry. I assure you that you wont be able to (costume jewelry doesnt count). Next, google any rapper, any one of them and see what they are wearing. Now use some logic and some common sense to connect the dots. Athletes try to live that hip-hop/rap lifestyle (I would also use the recent Gilbert Arenas nonsense as an example as well). Clearly I can do this all day while making you look like an intellectual child, but this will do. Go back to looking for people to argue based off of race rather than factual logic.

The haters love to rip on anything related to the raiders..Funny how they rip on J-russ, and elevate Sanchez, although J Russ had better stats his rookie season. But one is a savior, and the other is a bust.
In 2008, Russell completed 198 of 368 passes for 2,423 yards and 13 TDs (with 8 INTs). This year, Sanchez went 196 for 364 for 2,444, 12 TD and 20 INT. Their completion percentages were identical (ahhh!): both at 53.8 percent. Russell started 15 games at age 23 in 2008; Sanchez started 15 games at age 23 in 2009. The biggest difference is in interceptions, where Sanchez was significantly worse, throwing 20 interceptions to Russell’s eight.” – Vince Verhei

    Three possible responses to this…
    1) Anyone here want to talk up Mark Sanchez? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Didn’t Sanchez catch hell for eating a hot dog during a game? Take one look at JaMarcus and tell me he hasn’t eaten during a game.
    2) No, JaMarcus’ rookie season was 2007, not 2008. You fail.
    3) Your comparison between Russell and Sanchez is all fine and good, but Russell’s third season (2009) pales in comparison to his only full season (2008).
    JaMarcus Russell:
    2008 – 198 of 368 for 2424 yards, 13 TDs, 8 INTs, a 77.1 QB rating and a 5-10 record.
    2009 – 120 of 246 for 1287 yards, 3 TDs, 11 INTs, a 50.0 QB rating and a 3-9 record.
He’s regressing. So don’t compare JaBling’s sophomore season with Sanchez’s rookie season and try to play it off like a good comparison. Go ahead and compare Sanchez’s rookie season with Russell’s third season.
Granted, I’ll be the first to admit Sanchez is surrounded by much more talent and is not stuck is a dysfunctional organization. But you go ahead and believe we’re all “haters” and your savior Al will lead you through the desert. Just don’t be surprised if it takes him 40 years.
