ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL has chosen Scott Green as the referee for Super Bowl XLIV. Green became the subject of controversy last month when he refereed the Cardinals-Packers divisional round game.
Replays showed Cardinals cornerback Michael Adams’ hand was on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ facemask on Karlos Dansby’s game-winning fumble return for a touchdown. V.P. of NFL officiating Mike Pereira said the facemask was incidental.
Green has reportedly drawn high marks consistently, though, and worked the 2002 and 2004 Super Bowls as a back judge.
