Gregg williams, who is this loser think he is???? He has the worst defense in football in my opinion, well not the wrose bu like the 25th ranked? the only reason hes anywhere is bc hes riding brees coatails all year long. All this team does it punch the ball out of peoples hands, thats it, they wont even have a chance against peytons attack on sunday, its hard to punch the ball out williams when ur terrible corners are getting torched, and another thing, if the games close, williams is famous for going into a prevent defense late in the game, he always got beat up on the redskins, the redskins would be up and winning and then his d would relax and let people go right down the feild, I hope and I KNOW FOR A FACT peyton will shove it right up his fat ugly old ass. Maybe all you whiners about the Saints D taking cheap shots and hitting the QB late should just start watching table tennis or bowling!! Last I heard football was a contact sport! I Guess none of you girls ever played the game………or any sport for that matter. Guess y’all don’t realize that it’s pretty difficult to stop your momentum when you’re going full speed at the QB. Do you think the D says “OMG, the QB released the ball, I think I’ll stop and not hit him”? Give me a break……go watch a non-contact sport. You wouldn’t be crying if your team where playing in the SB.

I think this is still the NFL and if either defense gets near the QB I would expect them to level him as long as it’s legal. DC’s having been teaching this for years. Should be a good game.

He only said the first part. Perfectly legitimate strategy. Every team in the NFL, every team in college, and every team all the way down to tiny tots does it. They try to hit the quarterback. Sometimes, they get there after the ball is thrown. They can’t always see that the ball is out and can’t always slow down.
He did not say the second part. In fact, he went out of his way not to say the second part. He acknowledged that the interviewer wanted him to say the second part but he did not say it.

Coaches used to put real bounties on opposing QBs for their defensive players. A DC says in an interview that his team intends to hit the QB hard and often and there are people that consider this news?
Are there any football fans from the 20th century on this blog? Imagine trying to explain your outrage over this to a man like Jack Lambert. I would feel ashamed to be upset over this.

Warner was attempting to tackle after an interception. For anyone to even mention that hit speaks volumes about your knowledge of the game. That was a 100% clean, legal hit. Period.
BTW, Willaims’ comments are not a huge situation. As a matter of fact, outside of a few sensalist blog sites virtually no one is talking about it at all.

You guys are missing the point. It’s not about a team wanting to take out the QB, every team’s aim is to take out the QB. Ask Bobby McCray when he blindsided Warner because he had the “shot”…oh wait, McCray plays for the Saints!
No the point is that Williams felt compelled to make this public in order to feed his overinflated, arrogant ego and make this all about him. “Oh look at me, I’m the one who can give the order to take out Peyton… me, me, me, me.”
This now has become a situation that is ready to explode and possibly become a huge distraction to the Saints. This is going to be interesting to watch, because I believe that Sean Payton’s passive aggressive actions are going to have a negative impact on Williams.

How can a so called finesse team turn into a dirty team in two games? Football is a contact sport and QBs are not excluded. This is what every Defensive Coaches says in the locker room before the game. Greg Williams just had the guts enough to say it in an interview. If a defender can gets a clean legal hit on a QB he will take it everytime. This is football, a man’s sport.

Of course it’s being blown out of proportion – by second-rate “reporters” in order to generate hits on their blogs.
Notice that from most professional sports reporters and from their peers (this would include future Hall of Fame and recently retired QB Kurt Warner), both of these teams represent the class of the NFL. They aren’t classless, dirty, or any other derogatory adjective being used by a handful of whiners and sore losers with multiple accounts on the interwebs.
We’re finally going to see the best two teams in the NFL play each other for the championship, and I think it’s going to be a great one.

What’s the big deal?…is Peyton so great that he’s “untouchable?’ I am with Gregg…he’s a defensive coordinator! Knock the QB on his butt every “legal chance” there is!….it’s the way the game should be played! Playing defense is an attitude and wanting the offensive player to “remember” the hit you gave him is a great way to make him hurry his throw or interrupt his timing or even fumble……whateva!
