Maualuga meeting with NFL today

Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga will meet with the NFL Wednesday according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a session that seems likely to end with him entered in the league’s substance abuse program.

Maualuga pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of drunk driving and is subject to a fine from the league.  It’s also possible Maualuga is already in the league’s confidential program because of his history with alcohol in college.

The Bengals released a statement that they are disappointed in Maualuga, and the linebacker has spent the week apologizing for his arrest.

Hey, the guy got a DUI. It’s unfortunate but luckily no one was injured. The NFL has to play this up to show how in control they are. The guy should probably get some counseling but this process is a bit pretentious. Is this about the player getting better or the NFL being affected?
