Report: Saints to extend Brees’ contract

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Peyton Manning won’t be the only 2010 Super Bowl quarterback to get an offseason contract extension.

The Saints plan to extend Drew Brees, too.

Brees was just the 17th highest-paid quarterback in the league in 2009, and his deal is set to expire after 2011. The four-time Pro Bowler set an NFL record for completion rate (70.6) during the regular season while leading the league in touchdown passes (34) and passer rating (109.6).

No quarterback in the league has attempted more passes over the last three seasons.

Aside from perhaps coach Sean Payton, Brees is the most valuable person in the Saints’ organization. According to Schefter, Brees “practically would be able to name his price” should New Orleans win Super Bowl XLIV.
