Some Saints stayed out late Monday night

In a Super Bowl devoid of any juicy news relating to the two teams, we have to take whatever we can get.

Or we can just keep talking about Dwight Freeney’s ankle.

The folks at TMZ.com report that running back Reggie Bush and some other members of the Saints were out until the wee hours on Monday night.

The photographic evidence is right here.

UPDATE:  A prior version of this post said that the Saints were out late on Tuesday night.  We apologize for the error.

That was on Monday night. Look at when it was posted, Tuesday afternoon.

  2. boomtownrat25 says: Feb 3, 2010 8:49 AM

Good move. I guess better last night than the night before the superbowl though

  3. Archie Who? says: Feb 3, 2010 8:49 AM

Good job detective Florio. Now take a look at the date on the top.
Now get on down to the stadium or you’ll miss media day.

  4. lebowski says: Feb 3, 2010 8:50 AM

    OH MY GOD!!!!

  5. Love_Boat_Scandal says: Feb 3, 2010 8:54 AM

Jay Glazer, Sam Farmer, and Adam Schefter should just all move to TMZ sports. That way, any NFL story will always come from a single site.

  6. Jonathan says: Feb 3, 2010 8:56 AM

Florio, just for fairness sake, you should note that the pic is from Monday night (Tuesday morning)–and that was (I believe) the one night that the Saints players did not have a curfew, etc., and were told they could go out on the town.

  7. BigEarl504 says: Feb 3, 2010 8:56 AM

So let me get this straight….
We’re supposed to have faith that TMZ and Florio are being completely honest about the time and place this pic was taken?
I tried to take Florio at face value before…..Then I actually listened to the audio of Gregg Williams’ comments and the context in which they were made. He threatened to take Peyton Manning out like Rex Ryan promised to show Peyton defenses he hadn’t seen before.
Looks like another half-assed attempt to discredit the Saints.

  8. Big Stretch says: Feb 3, 2010 8:56 AM

I think this counts as a story only if they went out the night before the game not a week before the game. but hey how much can you talk about Freeney’s ankle or if Favre will return or how anti-gay TeBow might be?

  9. AlanSaysYo says: Feb 3, 2010 8:57 AM

Are you going to post another article to let us know when they wake up?

  10. nps6724 says: Feb 3, 2010 8:57 AM

Those were posted February 2 at 1:39pm. They are from MONDAY night, not last night. It’s an honest mistake. I mean, it’s not like that info is right below the title or anything. Oh wait.

  11. moocka says: Feb 3, 2010 9:01 AM

Great reporting here. The only problem is that these pictures were out yesterday. The link even has yesterday’s date on it. So how can the Saints players be out until the “wee hours of Tuesday night” when you provide “photographic evidence” from Monday night?

  12. TylerDurden says: Feb 3, 2010 9:02 AM

I didn’t see any clocks in that picture. Need more proof.

  13. faulkn22 says: Feb 3, 2010 9:02 AM

I’m not saying what these guys should be or shouldn’t be doing in the final days leading up to the Super Bowl, but I can be pretty sure that Peyton was probably waking up at around 4am to kickstart another film room session. I have a feeling that the Saints are in trouble on Sunday.

  14. KingKaine says: Feb 3, 2010 9:02 AM

This actually was Monday night/Tuesday Morning. It gives the impression that this was last night/Wed morning

  15. Emiliooo says: Feb 3, 2010 9:03 AM

Well it’s not like it’s an important game or anything…

  16. jzimmpa says: Feb 3, 2010 9:03 AM

Reggie Bush is SMASHED in that pic.
Bush will make the key mistake that will cost the Saints the game.
    Bet on it.

  17. PantsOnTheGround says: Feb 3, 2010 9:04 AM

Glad to see Reggie and some of the Saints are taking this game seriously.

  18. kris21054 says: Feb 3, 2010 9:05 AM

who cares? I am sure they asked their mommy and daddy if they could stay out last nite….

  19. Reduno says: Feb 3, 2010 9:05 AM

Actually, that was Monday night. I saw this same photo on another website on Tues morning.

  20. PFTiswhatitis says: Feb 3, 2010 9:08 AM

“Some Saints stayed out late last night”
    __________
I hope they don’t get grounded.
Seriously, they are grown men. If they choose to have a little fun 5 days before a game, let them. Considering how bad they are going to lose on Sunday, let them have a little fun.

  24. jwill007 says: Feb 3, 2010 9:16 AM

So what maybe it was their night to have fun or something…it was Tuesday night not Saturday night….LOL Bush wont be the 1st or last to have partied on Tuesday night…..

  25. Unchained says: Feb 3, 2010 9:16 AM

Why would they not be spending every minute possible preparing for the game, or at the very least, resting. They can go to Miami nightclubs all they want during the offseason.

  26. Twiz says: Feb 3, 2010 9:17 AM

NFL.com and ESPN.com have plenty of Super Bowl related stories. The best you can come up with is something from TMZ?
Well played Lord Florio, well played!

  27. last starfighter says: Feb 3, 2010 9:17 AM

Dear god, hopefully they have time to recover between now and Sunday. Max McGee came in drunk at 6am the day of SB 1 and was the mvp. Just sayin. . .

  28. milehiclown says: Feb 3, 2010 9:19 AM

    GASP! Grown men. For shaaaaame.

  29. Thorpie says: Feb 3, 2010 9:19 AM

Wow…really scraping the bottom of the barrel, eh Mike? If they were out on Saturday night, that would be newsworthy. Unless today is Sunday, this one is pointless.

  30. jamnn25 says: Feb 3, 2010 9:19 AM

Hey Florio since it’s “such” a slow news week maybe you should at least get your facts right.
Those pics were from Monday night, if you bothered to check you’d see they were added at 13:49 yesterday afternoon meaning they clearly can’t be from last night.

  31. FumbleNuts says: Feb 3, 2010 9:20 AM

Big deal “Tuesday night” farrrrrrrrrr from Sunday. Sean Payton should make Thursday night on for no partying.

  32. JoeyJoeJoeJr.Shabadoooo says: Feb 3, 2010 9:21 AM

Also, missing in the picture: Kim. her sisters. every other black athlete or rapper. I’d be suspicious too, Reggie. must be a 24 hr job this week. it’s like telling your dog not to eat the chew toys when there are hundreds dangling above his nose. there only so much time to get them all.

  33. Postman says: Feb 3, 2010 9:24 AM

Whoa. No way they’ll be able to sleep that off by Sunday.
    /sarcasm

  34. straverse says: Feb 3, 2010 9:30 AM

Monday night? Give me a break. I feel bad for Florio Jr. when I read articles like this.

  35. DiamondDuq says: Feb 3, 2010 9:36 AM

Who cares? The game is on Sunday! If they’re out late Saturday night then it’s news, perhaps even Friday night, until then they should enjoy themselves and stay loose. What do you think these guys do Monday through Thursday nights throughout the season? It’s actually a good sign for the Saints to see “business as usual” during Super Bowl week. Would you rather they sit in their hotel rooms watching film and getting stressed out and tensed up all week? They’re in Miami, let them enjoy it!

  36. Scott P says: Feb 3, 2010 9:39 AM

Reggie Bush being Reggie Bush. His self-loving comment after the Arizona game of “big time players make big time plays.” (who says that about themselves, really) proves how clueless he really is. This photo gives a glimpse of evidence to where all the under-performing on the field comes from. At least he’s enjoying the moment.

  37. Manbearpig says: Feb 3, 2010 9:40 AM

They were probably trying to find Peyton Manning so they could give him some “remember me” shots of liquor that included cyanide so they could play the Super Bowl Painter-style.

  38. kotapug says: Feb 3, 2010 9:43 AM

They are just happy to be there because they know they do not belong in the super bowl.

  43. BigEasy says: Feb 3, 2010 9:51 AM

I just looked at the pics and there is no way to verify this is even in Miami….but if TMZ says so…I guess its true!

  44. Zeppelin53 says: Feb 3, 2010 9:54 AM

WTF kind of article is this?
Partying 6 days from the Super Bowl and 8 days after their last game?! The horror! How will they ever function?!
Please report on real football news.

  46. jeromiah says: Feb 3, 2010 10:01 AM

  49. AutumnWind999 says: Feb 3, 2010 10:19 AM

  51. Jack Factor says: Feb 3, 2010 10:23 AM

Meanwhile, Payton was up until 3:30AM studying their D-Scheme film and playing it like Madden.
That is pretty stupid when you can party in Miami for the rest of your life. One week to keep it real before the biggest game of your life and you are out for the cameras to pop. If you want to party – stay at the hotel and do it in a suite or rent a place with a back door and limo waiting. The possibilities of stupid stuff happening beyond your control in a public environment are enormous. Bad judgement.

  58. realitypolice says: Feb 3, 2010 10:35 AM

I’ve read some pretty tall tales on PFT in my day, but NFL football players staying out late in SOUTH BEACH!?! That really stretches the boundaries of credibility. With all of the stories out there about how players are turning down party invitations, refusing to have sex with the groupies camped outside their hotels, TIVOing Letterman to avoid having to stay up late to watch it, and helping old ladies cross the street all over South Florida, this irresponsible piece of rumor mongering flies directly in the face of all that we all know to be true about professional athletes.
    Shame, Florio, Shame!

You care more than the players do. They want to get drunk and party. Football is a means to that end. The game is sceondary.

Hmmmmm…if Romo and Witten were playing their playoff game IN Mexico and Jessica Simpson was part of the game plan, I would agree. Except, the players are in town, having a night when they do not have a curfew.
So basically it is not the same thing.

    *shrugs*
For all I know, Coach told them they could party, get it out of their system since they didn’t need to worry about being hung over for Media Day or something.
Not too sure if this is a story.

  71. jx4cmario1 says: Feb 3, 2010 12:29 PM

You’d think they would be more interested in watching film and breaking down Indy’s defense, being that they have the biggest game in their lives coming up, but I guess the only team doing that in this game is the Colts. Which is probably why they will cover any line Vegas gives them.

  72. Tombstone7 says: Feb 3, 2010 12:30 PM

Oh yes!!! Another in-depth report from Miami!!
And I’m sure while the Saints players were out “All Night” that the Colts players were in their rooms reading their Gideon bibles and their playbooks.
    Give me a break.

  74. CurseofBoJackson says: Feb 3, 2010 12:32 PM

Hilarious, six days before the game, some young men who’ve worked hard all season to reach this point are allowed to take in the atmosphere for one night before getting back to business as usual. My goodness, how will they ever have time to recover by Sunday?
“Peyton Manning was in his hotel room breaking down film and playing Madden with it in his “Sloth” sized head and will destroy the Saints” Right, we get it, your desire is to perfom verbal fellatio on the guy and reap the hollow rewards should he win the SB. Way to step out on a limb homer. I personally don’t see why so many people A. are making such a huge deal out of the one night out six days before a game, and B. are so sure the Colts will “destroy” the Saints. I see a battle of two Offensive Juggernauts both equipped with elite Qb’s and WR’s as well as opportunistic Defenses; not a one sided affair reminiscent of Dallas v Buffalo in the mid nineties.

  75. jibfest says: Feb 3, 2010 12:46 PM

I seriously doubt that the Colts were breaking down film after midnight on Monday.
I think what people are missing here is that there is a very good chance the Colts players were out too, only the paparazzi who took these photos only know what Reggie Bush looks like. These weren’t Sports Illustrated photographers out there, people. There could have been Colts players standing 10 feet away, and the paparrazi assholes wouldn’t have know it.

Right, they probably weren’t breaking down film after midnight. But, they were probably SLEEPING while Reggie and Co. were out drinking. All I’m saying is that you would think that for one week these idiots could refrain from being out all night while preparing for the biggest game of their lives. The Saints have never been on this stage before, and it shows. Manning’s squad already has the upper hand being that they know what to expect, they don’t need an even bigger edge.

Yes, because the Colts understand the importance of getting a good nights sleep before the all-important media day extravaganza. Only a team that had already been to the Super Bowl could understand the importance of being 100% prepared to answer questions like “if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?”.
Lighten up. And I still maintain that just because the paparrazi didn’t shoot any pictures of superstars like Tony Ugoh or Mike Pollack, it doesn’t mean they weren’t out too.
