Texans will pick up Schaub's $10 million bonus

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that the Texans will pay quarterback Matt Schaub his scheduled $10 million offseason option bonus later this week.

Club owner Bob McNair announced as much a month back.

By exercising the option, the Texans will owe Schaub roughly $28 million over the next three seasons.

The move is a total no-brainer for the Texans.  Compared to the rest of the quarterbacks in the league, Schaub is underpaid.  He led the NFL in passing yards (4,770) while setting career highs in touchdown passes (29), yards per attempt (8.2), passer rating (98.6), and -- perhaps most importantly -- games started (16) in 2009.

Schaub also won MVP of the Pro Bowl as the AFC's starter.

Pro Bowl MVP? Does that carry more weight than preseason MVP?

I don't understand. He is already under contract for 3 more seasons, and paying him 10 million bucks retains him for..... 3 more seasons. So what, exactly, are the Texans getting in return for this 10 million payment?

Well, he is the best 8-8 QB in the league!

Packers29, he wasn't under contract for the next three seasons unless the option was exercised.

And, yeah.... this was/is kind of old news. McNair said he was going to pick up the option a month ago....

To everyone who dissed on Schaub before the season, including dozens of fantasy football "experts": Go suck it...

I don't think anyone on the face of the earth is worth 10 million dollars but since it's the name of the game and Schaub is under paid. He deserved it. Seems like a heck of a nice guy. But yet again, so was Tiger Woods, lol.

I live in Houston and listen to sports radio here. Idiots callers, including a couple of idiot sports radio commentators, are still crying that Houston didn't take Vince Young. These fools don't realize that if the Texans had taken VY, we wouldn't have Mario Williams AND Matt Schaub-two Pro-bowlers this year. Schuab's year was ridiculous and he did his part. Unfortunately, our kicker, bust RBs and our coach cost us the playoffs. Seriously, Kubiak is the only coach dumb enough to give carries to Chris Brown. This guy wouldn't be good enough to make 31 other NFL teams yet he got carries with. An indefensible position by Kubiak.
