Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Bills have hired Doug Whaley as assistant general manager.
Whaley was most recently the Steelers’ pro scouting coordinator.
He also gained notoriety in 2007 for sending an e-mail to then-Steelers offensive line coach Larry Zierlein that contained pornography. The e-mail accidentally reached multiple NFL employees and secretaries, as Profootballtalk.com’s Mike Florio reported at the time.
In Buffalo, Whaley will work under first-year G.M. Buddy Nix. It’s possible that Whaley, who is only 37, is viewed by Bills owner Ralph Wilson as Nix’s heir apparent. Nix is 70 years old.
This is some pretty good news for Bills fans. We ‘ve finally injected some new blood into the organization and even though all of our our previous Pitt hires have been failures (Modrak, Donahoe, Mularkey) this guy seems like a real solid candidate to take over for good ole Buddy in a few years. Let him learn now. Plus he sends emails containing porn. This guy sounds great!

At least he’s somebody oriented towards evaluating football talent as opposed to a bean counter. This is probably good news for Bills fans.

Who were the other canidates they were interviewing? How many other guys interviewed? And how many has the same qualifications, or more , but white?
Does this mean the Steeler will replace him with another minority canidate or does a qualified white guy get a shot???

Coaching has NOTHING to do with football operations. They are 2 separate entities. There are very little crossovers between them in the NFL.
If you even knew my posts, you would know that I have a little more insight than the average Joe.
This is not racist, this is the new life of the NFL. It is just PURE fact. If the Bills would have done the same thing to a white guy, and did not give any minority an interview, all hell would have broken lose. Fritz Pollard would be screaming!!! In a way the Bills know they have to hire a minority, so Doug is a great fit. Especially this time of year. He wasn’t under contract, so with or without permission he could go. (even though the Steelers are not ones to hold staff back)
As far as Doug Whaley goes, the only problem with him is the emails he sent out. What was his punishment? Hmmmm. But really why should he get any punishment? No one ever punished Bill Polian after he allegedly his the Jet’s guy. That was far worse.
Pft rox, I fell fortunate I haven’t had to read ur past post. Front office decisions have everything to do w/ coaching or ur Bills wouldn’t have chased Doug. Maybe its ur views that have keep ur team in the basement Corkey!! The NFL is all about wins & loses not white or black.
