Pennington wants to return to the Dolphins

When quarterback Chad Pennington suffered yet another shoulder injury during the 2009 season, it widely was presumed that his days as a Dolphin had ended.

But as he prepares to become a free agent, Pennington is interested in staying in Miami, even if it means serving as second fiddle to Chad Henne.

Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald reports that Pennington’s first choice is to remain with the team.

But Pennington could have options elsewhere, including Arizona, where per Darlington at least two players believe the team will make a run at him.

And the chances of Pennington actually playing for the Cardinals are much greater, given the team’s lack of faith in Matt Leinart -- who already would have been the starter if the franchise truly viewed him as the long-term answer.

Either way, we hope the former Marshall quarterback gets on the field during his eleventh NFL season; the two-time comeback player of the year would then have a shot at winning the award a third time.
