Saints complete historic trio of wins

En route to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history, the Saints did it the hard way.

For the first time in NFL history, a team advanced to and won the Super Bowl by defeating three teams led by Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks.

In the divisional round, the Saints knocked off — and ended the career of — Kurt Warner.  In the NFC Championship, the Saints took down — and possibly ended the career of — Brett Favre.

And in the Super Bowl, the Saints defeated the son of the man who was the only bright spot for the franchise during years of darkness.

Against Warner, Favre, and Peyton Manning, the Saints allowed only two touchdown passes, and generated four interceptions.

So congratulations to the Saints.  It was an amazing conclusion to an amazing season.

The only reason I didn’t want the Saints to win is because of Darren Sharper. But I feel great for Brees, Vilma, Brees, Vilma……

Favre pick and AD fumbles give you your glory….you are not a great SB team. Will never be remembered for more than lucky overachievers who beat fate…TRUE!

Thank god! Now I don’t have to listen to anymore of this bullshit about Manning being the best ever, or the Colts being the team of the decade. Patriots are the team of the decade and Manning is far from the best ever, unless you call biggest playoff losser QB the best ever. Chocke city baby. Noithing better than watching penis-head throw the pick to break the game. WHO DAT?

It just proves to play dirty and pay a small price in fines wins championships…..
Way to go Roger, please feel proud of the team you gave a trophy to.

Peyton should retire. He FINALLY tied Tom Brady as far as Super Bowls go.
Well, as far as Super Bowl losses go.
He can play until he’s 60 and he won’t WIN 3 of them.

  10. Bucforever says: Feb 7, 2010 10:46 PM

You know that Tebow commercial was a real let down but the one with Favre was a real hoot! Oh yeah , great game too.

  11. JoeSixPack says: Feb 7, 2010 10:47 PM

Now would be a good time for Bill Polian to reiterate that Peyton Manning will be the highest paid player in the game.
Actually Polian shouldn’t point fingers. He didn’t have the Balls to go for 19-0, so insteady they’re 17-2.

I read that the Saints have officially filed the necessary paperwork with the league to change their nickname. From now on they are going to be the New Orleans Katrina Victims. I guess they figured that would make it easier on the media since that’s all we’re going to hear about for the next year.

Come on Pervy, you can do much better. “Without those stupid turnovers”? Really? Well, without balls, my uncle would be my aunt. Without Favre, you are a 6-10 team. Without the internet, you are a punk bitch, living on government cheese, with nobody to even notice, let alone talk to you.
The Saints are Superbowl Champs. No bad calls, no cheap shots, no excuses…except from Vikes fans. I really hope Brett stays in the game. 1 year older and 1 year slower. You clowns won’t even see the playoffs next year, so start getting your 2010/2011 excuses ready now.

  38. jd says: Feb 7, 2010 11:16 PM

  40. hankstramcbsradio says: Feb 7, 2010 11:17 PM

Pervy the Saints won. They deserve it. I hate the Saints and their cocky fanbase, but they won. The Vikings didn’t need to turn the f##kin football over so many times in the NFCCG. Chilly would never had the balls to be as aggressive as the Saints coaches are.

What if Chilly doesn’t send 12 men into the huddle?
What if Brett doesn’t throw that INT?
But, like it or not, those things DID happen, and the Vikings lost.
You want to find reasons they shouldn’t have, imagine what could have been.
You want to find redemption. There is none.
The fact of the matter is, no one cares now, and next year, no one will care.
    The Saints.
    The New Orleans Saints.
    They won the superbowl.

For as good as the Saints feel right now, Viking fans have to feel that much worse. They beat the hell out of the Saints in all the stats except the score board and the Viking fans probably feel as if they could have dismantled the Colts after watching the game.
Too bad, talking about winning a Superbowl all year isn’t the same as actually winning one but I suppose the Viking fans will never come to understand just what they means.
Stay classy Pervy, you have all off season to dazzle us with your logic and stats about how you are going to win the next superbowl, Congrats on another paper championship this spring.

Better to be lucky overachievers with the Lombardi than choking underachievers crying in the cold of Minnesota.
Keep saying to yourself that the Vikings were the better team. All that matters is what the scoreboard says. There will be no asterisk next to our name. You lost fair and square. Get over it. Or don’t. In fact, I’ll enjoy knowing you’re sitting at home, bitter and bitchy, thinking “What if?” I’ll be in NOLA celebrating.

I guess they paid Peyton to throw the Pick 6 too? You guys are too much.
Fact: The Saints are the BEST team in the NFL. Throw out anything you want, we have 3 things no one else has:
    1. The BEST record in the NFL
    2. A 14-point win over the 1 other team with the same record
    3. The Lombardi Trophy
    Eat it.

Yet the ONE time the game ACTUALLY occurred, you lost.
If the Vikings were so good they could beat the Saints 10 out of 10, how did they LOSE to them? Hell, if they were that good how did they lose 4 games during the season? You want to blame turnovers, but they were FORCED turnovers. And if you want to play that game, I can guarantee you the Saints offense wouldn’t sputter 10 more times like they did that night. Whine and cry all you want, you lost. Deal with it.

Ah, such a feel good story. From the Kim Kardashian interview from Eisen to the endless talk about how much the city of New Orleans deserves this. It was pretty cute how all the guys on CBS’s post game had beads on. How much do you think they contributed to Katrina efforts? or the players, coaches and OWNER for that matter? Hopefully this will be the last year that bullshit will be shoved down our throats.
BTW, that is a knock against the bureaucrats in the media and NFL for trying to make themselves out as people who give a shit about the average person, not the team that thoroughly kicked the crap out of the Colts.

Heh, who would have thought that the qb with the most interceptions in history and the RB with the most fumbles the past 3 years would have turnovers against the team that forced the most turnovers in the league…..?

  89. longthoughts says: Feb 8, 2010 1:27 AM

Personally, I wanted the Vikings to compete in the Super Bowl and win. Whether popular or not, I wanted to see Favre get another ring. But they didn’t, and he didn’t. The Saints played some amazing games to sweep through the NFC before embarrassing the heavily-favored Colts with some tough play and some ballsy coaching moves. I am happy for the Saints’ fans, and that team deserves credit for an amazing year. I’m pleased that the question of whether or not Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all-time can be put to rest for another year. The only upside I see to Peyton returning to the Super Bowl next year is that it will give me another opportunity to watch him choke (and, if the huge screen at Cowboys Stadium goes out during next year’s game, it’s possible that they could project the video onto Manning’s forehead and get the same effect). And before others jump in to talk about what an amazing player he is, let me admit that Manning is one of the best to ever play…but rooting for him is kind of like rooting for the house at the casino. Most fans would give up their first born to have him as the face of their franchise. But…he’s a contact-shy robot who can call his own number at any given time, and people seem surprised that he puts up big numbers despite a statistically “poor” running game. It’s poor because the dude can call his own number. (Look at the film and rushing stats from the Super Bowl. The Colts should have done it more.)
Anyway, that was an unplanned rant. Congrats to the Saints and their fans.

It’s amazing how so much jealousy breeds so much ignorance…how did the saints not deserve this super bowl win?

The Barack Obama of the NFL, your New Orleans Saints. Pampered by the liberal mediia all the way to the Lombardi. LOL
Your WWF Championship Bealt is waiting, ACTORS.
The refs are handing out their dough for playing it according to script as we speak.

Dear Mr. Florio: Of the two play off games, you picked the Saints to lose to the Cardinals and to the Vikings. Yesterday you predicted the Saints would lose to the Colts. All three of your predictions proved to be wrong. Why are you such a Saint hater? What I find to be most telling is that none of your articles in which you predicted the Saints loss can be found on this website. I know, we all hate to be wrong.
Might I suggest a career change? Instead of predicting the outcome of pro football teams, you might be more suited as being the greeter at Walmart.

Sure, the Aints won, Good story line. Too bad they weren’t the best team in the NFC. They won the last two games because of stupid mistakes. The won the games, but never dominated. Can we stop the ‘they deserve to be there because of Katrina’ crap now?

Heh, who would have thought that the qb with the most interceptions in history and the RB with the most fumbles the past 3 years would have turnovers against the team that forced the most turnovers in the league…..?
    —————————-
Actually, the Saints had the 2nd most turnovers this year. The Packers were #1 in that category.

Colts and Saints – both classy organizations.
Can’t say the same about all the comments here.
    Great game.
Brees and the Saints didn’t turn it over. Their decision to go for it on 4th and Goal didn’t cost them.
    The on-side kick gamble worked.
Their kicker was lights out from 45 yards plus.
They baited Manning into an INT.
They executed their game plan to perfection. Well coached and well executed.
Proof that you can’t give a guy like Manning the title. He has to earn it…

Pervy you took way to many blows to the head during your boxing career( not to count the blows you gave to your Lord Favre)
The Saints are the real champs. They have a Trophy!!!! Not on paper like the Vikings so once again you are wrong
Now all you have to do is convince the Saint organization to fall to their knees (you being the expert on that position) crawl to Minneapolis prostrate themselves in front of the Hump Dome and wail Vikings you are the true Champs and hand over the Lombardi.I believe the chances of that happening are about the same as the Vikes defeating the Colts in SB 44

Last time I checked only the 72 Fins m anaged to not lose a game, so EVERY SB winner lost to someone.
You and your Cowboys are not special

MGM – best record in the NFC, beat the vikes, beat the cards, beat the eagles, beat the pats, beat the colts, won the super bowl.
Not only were they the best in the NFC, they are the best in the NFL.
You should probably take up knitting, football is obviously not your game

LMAO No inbred…I am drinking fine wine celebrating. For I know that we killed you…and you beat the Colts. With out those stupid turnovers we beat you by 24.You know it too asshole…

Do you get a trophy for that? No? Hmmmm. Go away, we have ours, maybe the Vikes can get one too.
Colts have class, much unlike Viking fans.

    Aint Legitimate…..
The aints are the worst team to ever win the Superbowl. Only got into the game because the officials put them there with bad calls in overtime of the NFC Championship. 9 out of 10 times the Vikings crush the aints.
Payton Manning and company whoops “WhoDat” any other day of the week. Good thing Freeny was hurt no doubt.
I’ll always look at the Saints as the losers who the NFL decided needed a win for their crappy city and only got there because the “Katrina” angle would make a nice story.
Bet they go 8-8 or worse next year.
