One relevant fact everyone seems to be overlooking: Indianapolis currently has temperatures in the teens (with wind chill) and icy roads. New Orleans is a balmy 60+ degrees. Give the Saints fans a chance of frostbite and see how they handle it ;)
Well it was really cold and windy for the victory parade. Temps were high 30 with windchill in 20s. Hasn't been balmy this week ....snowing tonight. As to the comment that people are getting tired of NO and thier team, well too bad. We got pretty tired of hearing about Favre, Manning etc. etc.

No problem! :-)
That's a hard question about the Super Bowls. As far as the league is concerned, the Colts have them, right? I think that's what I told the other man because that's the official line. The Ravens don't have them. I guess you could say the city of Baltimore has them. But the Lombardis are with Irsay. If the Steelers moved to Sacramento, they'd take the Lombardis. And if a new team started in Pittsburgh, you couldn't say that new team had the old Steelers' legacy. But the legacy would still belong to the city--and to the team in Sacramento.
It's very convoluted.

Calm down! You misunderstood me ... when I said "That's wrong" I meant it was wrong for the Irsays to deny Mr. Modell the opportunity to restore the Colts legacy to the city of Baltimore just as Mr. Modell had left the Browns legacy to the city of Cleveland.
The whole issue of who has the Super Bowls is complex and sad. But that fan was arguing with me that the Ravens have two championships. They don't. Period. However, as I told him, for a new franchise to come into the league and establish itself so quickly with a personality, division championships, and a Super Bowl championship is a huge achievement. It took the Steelers more than 40 years to win a playoff game. It took the Saints 43 years to win a championship. The old record went with the Colts. You're right that it doesn't belong to Indianapolis. But it doesn't belong to the Ravens either. It's suspended in time with fans of the old Baltimore Colts ... just as the achievements of the Houston Oilers are suspended in time with those fans. They don't belong to the Titans or the Texans.

OK, if this is true, this is really sad. The only thing I can think of is the communication was poor as to when the plane was getting in or it was right smack in the middle of the workday. Maybe the Colts organization had the plan of sneaking back into the city with no fanfare after the dissappointing loss and did not want it publicized? I hope that is the case.
Otherwise, shame on that city and it's so called fans! Those guys played their hearts out all year long, almost to a perfect season! It's crap like that that makes organizations fall apart in the following years. Who the heck wants to play their hearts out for fans like that??
Like Maya Angelo said and I will attempt to quote:
"People will forget what you said, they may forget what you did, but they will never ever forget how you made them feel!"
Go Colts!! I love you guys!! Great job!!

wow. Colts fans have really become spoiled in the last decade. you Colts fans better enjoy it while it lasts. once Manning is gone back to 1-15 and 3-13 seasons for you. go to the airport while you can. you've only got a few years left."
Amen...remember when they were bad even when they had Manning and Marvin Harrison? (before Freeney and Sanders got there?)

It all starts at the top with Peyton. he is as emotionally disconnected with fans as anyone, and that's the Colts. If you ranked the emotional connection between fans and the teams, you'd have teams like the Packers and Steelers up top, and right at #32 would be the Colts.
While Colts have their fans, and they are appreciated when they win a lot of games, there aren't even a dozen fans (literally) who live and die with their team. It's not a knock on the fans, it's just the reality of a team whose face is Peyton Manning.

At least Indianoplace ALSO realizes it because they dont really allude to it within their halls........you can say the COLTS have 2 SB wins, you can say Indy has 1 SB, you can say Balt. has 2 SB wins. All are correct. No different that how wrong someone would be if they said Unitas and Jones played for the Indianoplace Colts.......no, they didn't. The franchise name isn't necessarily the end-all, be-all.

@golongboyee ...
I never realized that was Art Modell's decision, but since then I've wondered so many times why the Colts didn't do that. Now hearing that Mr. Modell offered to buy back the team colors, etc.--that's just wrong! Personally, I think the Ravens have a cooler name, cooler logo, cooler colors, and a cooler persona than the Colts. But the Baltimore Colts had a great history, and it's a shame Irsay didn't leave it with the city.
A while back a Baltimore fan was screaming at me on here for arguing that Baltimore only has one Super Bowl win. He was talking about the Ravens. But you can't say they have two Super Bowl wins--that record went with Colts. It is what it is. I felt bad for him--but I can't change what is. And I'm not going to credit the Ravens with two Super Bowls. He said I was trying to steal his memories, but Bob Irsay did that, not me.

good points Deb........1 clarification
"At least when Cleveland left, the team was required to leave its colors and history with the city."
Actually this wasn't the case, Modell CHOSE to do so, mainly because Baltimore 1) wasn't thrilled with their f-ugly colors and 2) Baltimore wanted to start a-new.
If the Colts organization had any class, they would have done the same thing. When the Browns were signed and sealed to move to Balt, Modell even offered Irsay a buy-out of the name. Irsay came back with a ridculous counter-offer. Again, the son didn't want to do the right thing. In 96, the Indy Colts had nothing to show at that point anyway.......Shows the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I used to live in Indy. Most people there wouldn't recognize names like Albert Bentley, Bill Brooks, Ray Donaldson, or Eugene Daniel. Before the Manning Era, Irsay was calling on the city to give money to the colts to guarantee revenue (a sure sign of no fan support).
Incidentally, before calling Manning the greatest QB ever, I would like to see how he does when he doesn't consistently have one of the best O-Lines, and 2 Prow-Bowl receivers in outdoor weather for 8 games a season. Great QB? Yes. Best ever? No.
Incidentally, it does not sound intelligent to refer to NO as a "welfare town" when almost 1/4 of Indy's economy is supported by government. Just a thought.

@golongboyee ...
I fell in love with the PITTSBURGH Steelers. I also have a framed photo of Three Rivers in my Steeler room. When it looked like Dan Rooney might lose majority ownership, my brother and I were combing the Pittsburgh papers every day for news, panicked at the thought. If the team ever moved, we'd be crushed. We dream of going to Pittsburgh one day and seeing the Steelers play at home.
It's evil to move an NFL franchise from its loyal fans, and there's no worse example than the midnight move of the Colts. At least when Cleveland left, the team was required to leave its colors and history with the city. The Indy fans who are saying Baltimore couldn't hold onto the Colts are fools.

You guys really need to tone it back. Us Raiders fans have it the worst. We love our team....we sincerely love our team no matter how bad they have been these past 8 years straight....and we still root for and cheer for our team. We have one of the worst owners in all of professional sports. Don't get me wrong, many, MANY years ago he did a lot for football and the players. Now, he's just a senile old fool.
I hate to say this, but the best fans i've seen are Denver Broncos fans...and i strongly dislike the Broncos...However, they have the longest consecutive sell-out streak in the NFL, and you have to be put on a 50 year waiting list for season tix.....that says something about fans.

You know what, I think the average winning team has fake fans. I spent the first 1/2 of my life on the east coast and 2nd 1/2 in Indy. Most of the fans out east are fake except Wash and both Penn fanbases(not a fan of either).
As far as Indy fans are concerned, personally I dont think most of them watched football 10yrs ago. Ive called out many of them. Most colts fan proved their fairweatherness after they lost to the Jets in Dec. Indiana is know for being a basketball state. The Pacers went from being the loudest 6th man to the lowest attendance rate in the league.
But like I said for the past 2yrs, if you want a good example of a fairweathered/bandwagon fan. Theres a whole bunch of them, who wear pink jerseys and dont know **** about football

"# Sportnman says: February 9, 2010 10:18 AM
This has nothing to do with fans, and I hate the Colts. If you know anything about sports, the fans cannot get close to the player(s) after getting off the plane. It is a logistical factor, not a fan base factor! Now, is there a parade or a rally at Lucas field to just say thank you either way???? That is a different subject!~"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Really? Because this was the scene in New Orleans when the Saints arrived back home. They're saying the crowd was 20,000-30,000 and they're expecting 250,000 people for the parade tonight. From the beginning of the organization, there have ALWAYS been fans waiting at the airport for the players after away games. Win or lose (and we all know the losses surpass the amount of wins) they were there and there were always more than 11 people who were not forced to stand behind a fence.

Golongboyee - I find it hilarious when everyone spews about how the Colts will move from Indy as soon as Manning is gone! Based on what? We have one of the best ran organizations in sports and now have a generation of fans built up. The argument is always "attendance sucked before 18 arrived." At times it did, but hell can you blame people through some of those years? There were constant sellouts the first several years when the team was a laughingstock. They were an absolute joke for a while. But over the years it has grown and grown and now that we have younger people who have grown up with the Colts here, the fan base is 10x stronger and will continue to grow. We never had the luxury that all of the older teams had from that standpoint.

As far as being Pigsburgs bitch if you look at our record vs the steelers over the last 7 years it is 500. About the same as Peyton Mannings playoff record. And while we haven't beaten the Colts like we have beaten the Steelers, I can tell you that the Steeler Raven rivalry is ranked amongst the NFL's best. Peyton Manning is a really good QB. To bad his collar tightens up in the playoffs. The Dolts will go down as the Braves of the NFL. The best team of the decade that could only win one championship and frittered away the rest.
