Earl Bennett “not concerned” about learning Martz offense

Mike Martz runs a complex offense, but as the new Bears offensive coordinator settled in for his first full day on the job today, one of his wide receivers said he’s confident that the new offense won’t be hard to learn.

I’m not concerned at all,” said Bears receiver Earl Bennett. “I’m pretty sure that all of us will be able to get it. I’ll be dialed into my position. We’ve just got to come in and understand our playbook, and I’m sure all of us will get it.”

Bennett’s comments come from a story by Larry Mayer of the Bears’ official web site, and it’s a story similar to the article from the Bears’ official web site that we pointed out last week, in which Jay Cutler talked about working with Martz. Based on the Bears’ web site, it seems that the players in Chicago are excited about the new direction of their offense.

The question, of course, is what happens when the season starts, and when Bears players are talking about Martz to media outlets less friendly than the team’s official web site. Martz has a proven track record of success as an offensive coach, but he also has a proven track record of rubbing some people the wrong way. If he can turn the Bears’ offense around in 2010 and keep everyone saying positive things about him, he really is an offensive genius.
