In a Monday interview with WGFX in Tennessee, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook spoke on a number of topics, ranging from his 2009 concussions to quarterback Donovan McNabb’s possible exit from Philadelphia.
There is no doubt, according to Westbrook, that McNabb will be the Birds’ starter in 2010.
“There is no question in my mind if Donovan will be back,” Westbrook said. ”He had a very good year of course. A lot of fans measure by Super Bowls. Realistically there is only going to be one team out of 32 to win the Super Bowl every year and it is hard to do that.
“If you look at this football team with Donovan and without Donovan I think you would be hard-pressed to say that there was a better quarterback in the league than Donovan McNabb for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Westbrook also confirmed that he was not recovered from his October 25 concussion when he returned to game action three weeks later, despite passing “all the tests.” Westbrook was concussed again in his first game back.
“What happened to me was that I was not completely healed from the first concussion,” he said. ”Even though I waited that long amount of time and passed all the tests I still wasn’t completely healed…and it came back just like that. After that I had to sit out another five or six weeks just for me to be completely sure that I was 100 percent OK.”
Westbrook touched on concerns about his future playing career, but didn’t give any hard answers about whether he’s considered retiring.
On January 18, WIP radio’s Howard Eskin reported there is “almost no chance” that Westbrook will play for the Eagles again.
McNabb to Dallas. Then Big D wins, wins big. Tony Ono to Birmingham
theKING reports “there is almost no chance anyone enjoys listening to Eskin on the radio”.
Westbrook: class act, great player, his tank is either empty or too banged up!
KING~out
I’ve watched every Eagles game since i was 5, I refuse to watch another with McNabb at QB
Please don’t listen to Eskin. He’s an undereducated, self-proclaimed know-it-all. He’s rarely correct about anything.
“If you look at this football team with Donovan and without Donovan I think you would be hard-pressed to say that there was a better quarterback in the league than Donovan McNabb for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Mr. Westbrook, I admire you for your style of play, your class and your guts. However, I have to fault you for being completely inaccurate with this claim. I suggest checking out what Kevin Kolb did in his starts and then share with us your findings.
Hell of a run Westbrook had with the Eagles, he was their most important weapon from 03-08 and he was extremely overworked and that, along with his concussion, led to his demise. The NFL is a business and releasing him will be a business decision, words cannot express how important a player he was to the eagles organization.
and here come the “mcflabb”, “campbell soup”, and “choking” jokes
Maybe Westbrook forgot that Kolb threw for over 300 yds in his 1st two starts.
If he thinks McKnabb is the best QB for ANY team he is still concussed.
What would be the asking price for McNabb? I can’t help but wonder if he would be worth the price-tag.

i’m guessin your only 6 years old then
Brian, is that the concussion talking?
Chapnasty, I suggest you take a second look at Kolb’s two games and explain what you saw that would suggest that he’s an upgrade over McNabb.
Philly fans be careful what you wish for, if Kolb was the answer he’d be starting and there would be a divided locker room.
Eskin is getting destroyed in afternoon drive ratings by espn radio, he has no credibility to anyone in philly anymore. In fact his radio station (610am) is so desperate they were ready to fire him to get his competitor to leave espn to take his spot.
People use your brains. Kolbs two starts arent that impressive considering against the saints he had 55 pass attempts and the second game was against the chiefs. So how is kolb so good now?
Who cares about the yards kolb got in garbage time vs the saints. If u take his yards then take the 3 ints too. And against the chiefs…. Seriously?
@danfinocchio -
Good riddence! One less fair weather fan…
Please don’t ever call yourself an Eagles fan again.
@Max_dfl -
Agreed, but how is he not? Two games does not make a QB, but it also doesn’t break one. I trust Andy, if he has faith in Kolb then the move should be made. If not, stick with D-Mac.

they are obligatory, and McKnob didn’t just “choke”- the man actually PUKED! Talk about taking it a step beyond inept!
birdmancometh-
I trust Reid too, and if he thinks Mcnabb has the better chance to take this team to the promise land then I believe that but I just am annoyed with people who think Kolb is better than Mcnabb just based off those two games.
Max – 90% of the people I come across around here would not argue that Kolb is better, they’ve just seen enough and are ready to try something new.
After the Phillies won the Series, a losing effort in an NFL title game doesn’t cut it anymore.
And I trust Reid too – at least when it comes to QB. So I have confidence that his selection of Kolb as the heir apparent was well founded.
Truthfully, I’d rather ax the coach and keep McNabb…but that ain’t happenin’. This combo has gone as far as they can go.
“Hell of a run Westbrook had with the Eagles, he was their most important weapon from 03-08 and he was extremely overworked”
2003 – 154 touches
2004 – 250 touches
2005 – 217 touches
2006 – 317 touches
2007 – 368 touches
2008 – 287 touches
If those were all rushes I’d agree with you that he was overworked, but they’re not. It includes receptions. That’s fairly light duty for a starting RB in the NFL. 1734 touches over an 8 year career.
And after seeing what happened to Andre Waters, I would like to see Westbrook retire. It’s hard enbough to watch Bernard Hopkins continue to risk permanent damage by staying in the ring.
@dagodfather
Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. Kolb put up monster numbers and played well. I don’t really care what team he was playing because McNabb lost to the Raiders…..
@ Birdman, Mooch, Max and all other delusional Eagles fans
How on earth can your trust McNabb or Reid with any of their judgements? How many games have been lost due to Reids inability to manage a game or a clock? How many years of let downs is it going to take for Philly fans to realize that Reid hasn’t done anything for your organization except get you close. I would understand if it was his first couple of seasons and he was still building but I think that excuse has passed. 0-3
Chap – here is what I believe…
Reid is a bottom 5 NFL coach on gameday. I have never seen a halftime adjustment on the offensive side of the ball. He lived off of Jim Johnson’s defenses for years.
Do not even get me started on the clock. Or stupid penalties. Or the annual right of passage that is confusion on the line over who was supposed to cover the tackle.
Oh, and I have no idea what they work on in practice all week, the team is usually unprepared. You can tell in the first 5 minutes of the game if the Eagles will be in it, since the gameplan will never be adjusted.
BUT I have seen Reid draft McNabb in a year when numerous others were available in the top half of round 1. Most were busts, he got it right.
And we need to face facts that Reid is going nowhere, much as we’d like him to go.
We will be happy to trade for McNabb.
One deal I’ve heard of that makes sense.
It’s a three way deal. Cards trade Leinart to Seattle, Seattle sends Hasselback and a 1st to Philly, Philly sends McNabb to AZ.
I’ve been an Eagles fan my whole life. I live in Dallas now, its awful during football season. When Bledsoe was the QB down here, everyone was calling for Romo…it took him quite a while to win a PLAYOFF GAME (2 playoff wins-3 losses) let along a SUPERBOWL. Chill out philly fans, I believe in Reid and Mcnabb until proven otherwise. Mcnabb has been the face of this organization since ’99. He led us to a Super Bowl once before but fell 3 pts shy.
Kolb’s time will come. Give him atleast 1 more yr to watch. 1 of his “impressive starts” was against KANSAS CITY and the other against an above average NO defense at the time.
So chill out Philly fans, Mcnabb is the QB we need for right now. This is all media created anyways. Trade Vick if anyone..

————————————————
In 3 years, Kolb’s TD to INT ration is an astounding 4:7. Most of his attempts came in garbage time in garbage games against garbage teams. What does your numbers proverb say about those stats?
@ danfinocchio: Good, don’t watch anymore.
@ Chapnasty2 & Quagmire: “come on, man!?!” Keep your Kolb fetish in your mom’s basement. Good qb, not sure how good he “could” be, but he’s okay right now. DNabb is well past ‘okay’ right now and still have a few years left in the tank.
@ Chapnasty2: as for Reid, he’s done a helluva lot for the franchise! Past decade has been fantastic. A Super Bowl would be the cherry on the icing, but don’t diminish what’s been accomplished just because the Eagles don’t have the Lombardi.
I’d say Westbrook was over-relied upon, and maybe given his size over-worked to some extent. Kid always seemed to be dinged.
I’d like to make a correction to my earlier post about Romo lol…1-3 in the playoffs. I almost gave him to much credit..
How is all of this created by the media?
The coach chose Kolb. The team is not jumping to extend McNabb.
It is what it looks like. The end.
I am a lifelong Eagles fan and live and die with my team – mostly die though. Westbrook is the classiest most talented back in Eagles history. He should retire. It’s not worth the risk. If not I will wear his jersey for every game. (I have 3 westbrook jerseys) I don’t care what we do at QB. Andy knows best. I love McNabb, I like Kolb too. Vick is gone. If it’s time to move on, so be it. I am curious to see which way it shakes out. I am on board either way. I appreciate the greatness Donavan brought to the Eagles. He is the best QB in franchise history. With the best QB, RB, Kicker, and Coach in team history (and FS when Dawk was here) we should have a Super Bowl to show for it!
@WarrenMoon
“McFlabb” needs to eat his “chunky soup” and stop “choking” in big games….LOL!
LMFAO McNabb might be the WORST qb int he lesgue FOR THE EAGLES. He is never going to be good enough as a west coast QB to win the big one.
“@ Chapnasty2: as for Reid, he’s done a helluva lot for the franchise! Past decade has been fantastic. A Super Bowl would be the cherry on the icing, but don’t diminish what’s been accomplished just because the Eagles don’t have the Lombardi.”
Yeah, because in the big picture, winning the Super Bowl is not important. Or so say the fans of teams that have never won one.
Just because beating the Eagles three times WAS your Superbowl, Vox, doesn’t mean you have a win to hang your hat on this millenium.
If you’re going to jump to last century to find your win, the Eagles get to count their Championships before they were called Superbowls. Win something in the modern era, and you can brag.
Well if Eskins said there was almost no chance Westbrook will play for the Eagles next year then theres almost most no chance Westbrook will not play for the Eagles next year.
Eskins knows nothing about the Eagles he just throw out random things he think might make sense. He has no inside track on what the Eagles are thinking and 95% of time what he says will happen never does. Unless its something like the Eagles will play football sometime next year.
Also Silva, Westbrook has said multiple times since his 2nd concussion that he wasnt completely healed after his first concussion. It was also reported on this website atleast twice over a month ago.
Its good to know that it takes you this long to report something that most people have already known about for monthes.
