Saints parade gets rolling tonight

A week before Mardi Gras, an even more Gras Mardi will be unfolding in New Orleans.

For the first time in our (my) memory, a championship-winning team will be conducting its parade at the perfect time for the locals to start continue drinking -- 5:00 p.m. CT.

Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, which might be running out of paper and ink, more than 250 members of the Saints organization will take part in the Black and Gold Super Bowl Parade, which will include "a dozen of the area's premiere Mardi Gras floats," marching bands, the Budweiser Clydesdales, and presumably a Kardashian or two.  ESPN will televise the event.

"I think that this is the first time that you'll ever see all these floats together at one time, and very well could be the last time you ever see all these floats together," Barry Kern, president of Blaine Kern Studios, told the Times-Picayune.

"Our mandate was to put together a high-quality parade," Kern added.  "We wanted to make sure that we showed the rest of the world how Super Bowl parades should be held, a celebration event should be held.

"It will be, in a way that only New Orleans can do," he said.

The parade is expected to costs "[h]undreds of thousands of dollars," but much of the cost is being donated.  The event likely will have a significant economic impact on the local economy, via out-of-town Saints fans who have descended on New Orleans to join the perpetual party, which possibly will last through and until the Saints host the first game of the regular season.

Given that the game will be televised by NBC, I might have to load up the Vanagon and make the trip to the Bayou for that one.

    Florio,

Since next Tuesday is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), today is being called Lombardi Gras (Dat Tuesday). It's going to be cold and windy so you can image how good the girls in T-shirts are going to look tonight. Even my wife...

The will NEVER be a Super Bowl parade anywhere that will exceed what is going to go down today in New Orleans.

    THE SAINTS SHOCKED THE WORLD

Congrats to the Saints nation and enjoy the ride. I remember the high we had in Tampa in 2002 . What a rush! Enjoy and remember it well. You guys deserve it and by the way ,thanks for keeping the title in the NFC South.

NO fans found time to get 3 attempted murders in the celebration too. check the news.

So glad they are doing it this way. Milk everything you can out of this. Celebrate wildly!

Gonna have to find a way to rush home and catch the carnage on TV. Here in Baltimore, we are getting even more snow and life is beginning to suck.

Hopefully watching New Orleans celebrate and party will lighten the mood.

Yep.Go figures. The city and region that drained the US financially should surely have the biggest and best parade ever. And it should all come from donations. After all,you are the donation capitol of the world! Stay classy New Orleans!!!

ps- I donated privately to Katrina so you all STFU! It is my opinion!

Bucforever, it's a funny thing. All the teams in the South despise each other, but their respective fans always seem to go out of their way to be kind to each other. We've always had a great time in Atlanta for Falcons games, and I can recall singing songs with visiting Falcons fans in the Quarter. I've never been to a road game in Tampa, though. Look forward to doing that one day.

There were 2 incidents in the city on a night where the streets were flooded at record numbers, and ridiculous emotion and alcohol.

Every city has incidents after championship wins, including deaths. So 2 incidents and 0 deaths is a victory considering.

Thanks, Bucforever. I was supporting you guys when you won your Super Bowl. I thought that was a great way to get a win in the ultimate game. I was even behind the Falcons when they lost and I supported the Panthers when they lost.

NFC South fans are very passionate about their respective teams, but they do so in a way that does not cut down their rivals "too" much. I have been to Tampa for a Saints game (we lost.....) and really got a kick out of the fans. Had a nice time and didn't have anything thrown at me, poured on me or shouted at me. Can't say the same for a few other cities I have been to and watched games at.......

Yes, the New Orleans Saints Are Super Bowl Champions!!!!

Florio you are not welcome in the Bayou. You have been nothing but a Saints hater this entire season, so stay home & use your poison pen. NOLA doesn't need you up close & personal spreading your negativity.

  19. BigEasy says: February 9, 2010 12:20 PM

It's great...Tremendous.....Who Dat! I'll be there and WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

FOR THE FIRST TIME FLORIO DOESN'T HAVE A NEGATIVE COMMENT AT THE END...VERY NICE!

    @JOEJOEBLOWJOE

Seriously, get a life......anytime thousands of people get together something can always happen but it doesn't represent the people just the individuals who choose to try and ruin the party.

Your just a fan without a winning team thats jealous of the success and celebration and good fortune that New Orleanians have by living here.

Do us all a favor and STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. NOLAGirl says: February 9, 2010 12:50 PM

Pretty damn hot baby with a 144 IQ!! If you would know a little about Mardi Gras(which obviously you know nothing).............The other Krewes(oh yeah, you don't know what a Krewe is either!!) that owns floats are donating the floats to the parade. The owner Blaine Kern is donating floats and tractors. Other people donate their time( like the high school marching bands) and the police officers were already on duty. Maybe you need to think before you write........work that 70 IQ God gave you!! Maybe you can raise to 80!!

  21. Boudin says: February 9, 2010 12:52 PM

    Pervy...

the donations for this parade came from within the city.

    Floria...

don't bother you Saint hating weirdo. aw screw it, come on down. we'll show you a good time and maybe you'll finally "get it".

N.O., the proud city of many ghetto's. The average american worker has no idea how many highly taxed hours are worked by responsible human beings, to send countless millions in welfare, food stamps, subsidised housing, subsidised heating, medicade and all the other entitlement programs the obese, self entitled, ghetto trash, absorb daily.

Anyone attending the parade better not walk a block off the parade route or they'll be taking their own life in their hands. The gangbanging drug dealers think little of committing murder.

Maybe they'll throw more of those free 2000 dollar debit cards off the parade floats.

Yep, and they rely on Yankee money to feed the animals.

I would not give one dime to that city.
