Stallworth to work out for unnamed team Wednesday

We don’t have to wait until March 5 for free agency to kick off.  We’ve got Donte’ Stallworth!

Since Stallworth was released by the Browns Monday, he is free to sign with any team.  His agent Drew Rosenhaus tells the Boston Globe that an unnamed team will work Stallworth out Wednesday and should sign with a team “in the next couple weeks at the latest.”

“We are very pleased with the amount of teams interested,” Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus could be bluffing, but there should be interest if Stallworth is willing to work for relatively cheap.  Stallworth signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with New England in 2007 to help repair his image after it was learned he was in the league’s substance abuse program.

We’d be surprised if he gets that much on a one-year deal this time around.

  1. I hope he’s bluffing… if he isn’t, I suspect that the secret team is the Bengals. I hope I’m wrong.

  2. Send him to Cincy….Hell we have had our bad share and a 1 year deal non guaranteed is a win win situations for us….He gets a DUI again we cut him…..We need 4.3 speed WR with determination for 2010…….Him and TO with Coles and Chad thats a good 4…Passing game should improve…..
I bet its Bmore, Pitt, Oakland, Washington or the NYJ……..You heard it 1st

  3. The Bills? With TO gone, we could use another decent, although aging, wr for our qb’s to overthrow.

  4. Now this is a guy who deserves a second chance.
Unlike Michael Vick, Donte Stallworth actually made a terribly stupid mistake.
Donte Stallworth made the selfish, dumb mistake of drunk driving, then completely accidentally hit a man who was negligent himself in running across a highway without using a crosswalk.
Michael Vick did not make a mistake. He’s a lowlife who gets off on slamming dogs into concrete face-first.
Donte can play for my team anyday.
On the other side, if Michael Vick signed as a Buffalo Bill I would drop the team immediately, and I am a 20 year fan and season ticket holder.

  5. Why would anyone believe Rosenhaus? I’m shocked that he did not say 15 teams were interested in his client and one was from the NHL, this guy is something else.

  6. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go back to New England. They need a solid #3, and he was part of the best offense of all-time there.

  7. @Jwill
Why would you think Pittsburgh would be the team? Because you’re a Bengals fan and could badmouth them?
We have Hines ward, Santonio Holmes, and Mike Wallace… Not to mention Heath Miller, why would we want that garbage?

    AMEN!!
What no one realizes is, Dante Stallworth stopped immediately & called 911, he went to the victim’s families & begged for forgiveness, HE MANNED UP with his unintentional mistake. This wasn’t repeated INTENTIONAL acts of sadistic cruelty. This isn’t something Dante did regularly for 6 years! It was a one time mistake that he didn’t try & lie his way out of, only to plea when he backed into a corner.
That is the difference Vick supporters – educate yourselves before posting on a subject instead of calling names, ranting race related BS, acting like MV was a victim. He got off easy for the acts of extreme & INTENTIONAL repeated evil he commited to those animals.

You’re speaking God’s words on Earth, sir.
The way people react about Michael Vick is amazing to me.
The reaction to the “outrage” over Vick would be appropriate if he accidentally hit a dog with his truck and we want to lock him away for it.
Or if he only GAMBLED on dogfighting and didn’t engage in it himself.
This lowlife repeatedly, purposely and willfully TORTURED these dogs.
You wanna kill the dog? (not that it’s right, obviously) Use a gun and a silencer.
    Do it quick and painless.
You don’t take these dogs and drown them, hang them or slam them facefirst into concrete unless you ENJOY doing it that way.
Keep that scum away from my team.
And FYI he was a pretty damn crappy QB.

  11. The St. Louis Rams will win the NFC West behind Mike Vicks arm and a 4-12 record.

  12. It’ll be the Chiefs. If they took Bobby Wade off waivers in the middle of the year and immediately made him a starter, why wouldn’t they move on Stallworth?

  13. @ty@thelionsinwinter and @topcide
Huge Lions fan here, and I totally agree with you guys! As soon as I saw he was going to be cut I said, we need to get him.

  14. Seriously, Mike Brown is a noted guy willing to give chances to people who made mistakes. Sometimes too willing. OK, maybe not exactly “sometimes”, more like “most of the time. But this is something the Bengals could actually use if Dante is even remotely capable of still catching the ball. After all, could he possibly be worse than Coles? So the Bengals aren’t exactly an unlikely target. And Mike would love taking a talented player away from a division rival. And not just the Browns in this case, but the Ravens as well.
But there are other reasonable targets as well. Lots of teams need help at WR besides the three aforementioned AFC-N rivals. Dolphins, Cowboys, Bears, Chiefs, and many more. Cowboys would be top of my list from that group due to Jerry Jones similar-to-Mike-Brown penchant for giving second and third chances.

  15. Michael Vick Killed dogs. This repeat offender Stallworth. A member of the league substance abuse program… got shitty and killed a HUMAN.
all of you PETA members need to get your priorities together.

  16. I don’t really pay attention to the rest of the teams in the league except the week my team is playing them so I ask…
Is anyone more desperate at WR than the Dolphins?

  18. the jets…they are desperate for anyone they can actually sign…and the “CUT” stallworth fits that bill.

  19. and top is the winner
of course the lions should be called the northville nitwits and play in the west metrosemipro league

  20. As a life long Rams fan ( ya I admit it) Now that the Rams have show’n interest in Mike Vick, we could establish CON-AIR, in the Gateway City, we can sign Vick, Stallworth, and don’t forget Plaxicco will be out in the not too distant future. I mean we already have Leonard Little, who can serve as a mentor, to all the recently released. And if they contact the Bengals, I’m sure they could sign 1 or 2 of there present or future parolees, and could possibly get Government funding on the Work-Release program

  21. No it has to be the Rams, after all theyve already shown interest in Vick, so what we have hear is the making of CON-AIR. Think about it, they sign Vick, Stallworth, and let’s not forget Plaxicco will be out soon. They already have Leonard Little to mentor those recently released. And if they contact the Bengals, they could trade for one of there present or future parolee’s, Hell they could get Govt. funding under the work-release program. Steve D.
