Kid sent home for wearing Colts jersey to school gets an apology

With the Saints and the Colts not giving us much to work with last week, we had to look for stories wherever we could find them.

One of the most intriguing came from Livingston Parish, where a 17-year-old high school student with the kind of rebellious streak that qualifies him for a career in blogging showed up wearing a Colts jersey. The school sent him home.

According to Jeff Adelson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the matter has been resolved, and the student said that the situation had been “blown out of proportion.” (Hey, at least he’s getting the kind of education that entails the proper conjugation of the verb “blow.”)

Principal Steve Vampran (how is it that men with names that kids will easily make fun of end up in charge of kids?) reportedly apologized to Brandon Frost, who apologized for wearing the Colts jersey on a day when other students were wearing black and gold. (Real gold, not yellow gold. Keep make an ongoing note of that, Steelers fans.)

The student were told they could swap out school uniforms for Saints gear. Frost, who grew up in Indiana, opted for the Colts jersey. Vampran reportedly told him, “If you like Indiana so much, why don’t you go back?”

And there’s yet another piece of evidence to support the concept of home schooling.

It sounds like Frost violated the terms of the exception to the dress code, and it sounds like Vampran applied the wisdom of Frankenstein to the dilemma. So it’s good that they worked it all out.

But we frankly would have preferred that they hadn’t, since it would have been fun to cover this thing for the rest of the year.
