Rumors fly that Broncos are available for purchase

The fact that the Rams have found a buyer reminded me of a rumor that snaked its way through the grapevine last week.

There’s talk that the Denver Broncos could be available to be purchased from current owner Pat Bowlen.

And there’s a connection between the Rams and the Broncos.  If Shahid Khan will be buying not only the 60 percent of the Rams currently held by Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez but also the 40 percent owned by Stan Kroenke, Kroenke could couple the cash he gets from Shahid with a chunk of his wife’s Wal-Mart money and purchase the Broncos.

Kroenke already owns the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the NBA’s Denver Nuggets.  He reportedly was interested in acquiring controlling interest in the Rams, but the league’s cross-ownership rules require teams in multiple leagues to be located in the same market.

We need to be clear on this one.  We’re not saying that the Broncos are for sale; we’re saying that there’s a rumor they’re for sale.  And we’re speculating that Kroenke could be interested, especially if he’s cashing out his chips in St. Louis.

Lets all put in 5 bucks and the commenters at PFT will buy the Broncos.

Florio heard a rumor…aka he just made it up to fill space. Since PFT went big time, has any rumor that originated from PFT come through.

Way to make a statement and stay right in the middle.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all. It seems like Bowlen’s age has finally caught up to him. Any time an owner is talking about memory loss and the team is in shambles or upheaval, then you’ve got to think something is up.
It’s a shame, because Bowlen was a hell of an owner for quite some time.

I certainly hope Kroenke owns a mink coat.

Actually, this is HUGE if it’s true.
Think of the marketing implications: You could have Fat Heads of Gosh McDamYa’s pumping his fist at the Mile-High crowd for sale in every Wally World in the country !

  9. milehiclown says: Feb 11, 2010 9:25 AM

    @ MFCLOCK:
The irony of YOU calling the coach McDummy with this sentence (“the first the new owner should do is fire mcdummy and xanders”) is fabulous.
McDaniels is INDEED the “dummy” here.

  10. Cecil says: Feb 11, 2010 9:47 AM

The buffoons who keep up with the “McDummy” or “McDouche” or whatever are hilarious. It wasn’t really funny the first 500 times.
And yeah, a team in shambles. 8-8! Oh noes! Sell! Fire everyone!

It’s more likely that Stan Kroenke is looking into a take over of a soccer team in england.
“the spotlight on the ownership of Premier League clubs has never been brighter but, unlike so many recent investors in English football, Kroenke seems to have no shortage of available cash. He has already spent around £160 million in acquiring 29.9 per cent of Arsenal and now stands just 17 shares short of the threshold that would require a full takeover bid.”

I believe that any team could be bought, if the price was right, like double of what it is worth.

  14. WTE says: Feb 11, 2010 10:17 AM

Theoretically, every team is for sale.
As the great wrestler Ted DiBiase used to say, “Every man has his price.”

  15. favres_right_tendon says: Feb 11, 2010 10:26 AM

Nice work PFT! You nailed this one perfectly as the story is true that with Bowlens ailing health and his families not wanting to continue running the show, the Broncos are for sale. Will be interesting to see what happens when a new owner comes in as I am sure he won’t fall for McDaniels New England Bullshit.

  16. Route36West says: Feb 11, 2010 10:28 AM

Or maybe Bill Romo will buy the Broncos and get his ass back in an NFL locker room and rub it in your face everyday. Get Used to It.

  17. Brewster says: Feb 11, 2010 10:40 AM

If the team is for sale Stan Kroenke is one of three prominent businessmen who immediately come to mind with sports & entertainment holdings who have close ties to the Denver area or live there who could acquire the team.
Phil Anschutz owns pieces of Pro Basketball and Hockey teams as well as sports venues and broadcast and entertainment properties.
John Malone, through his Liberty Media holdings owns the Atlanta Braves and numerous broadcast and entertainment entities.
Any of the three have the financial wherewithal to acquire the Broncos if they have the desire.
    One can only hope.

  18. Laxer37 says: Feb 11, 2010 10:59 AM

I’d sell them too after that late season meltdown.
Seriously, how do you miss the playoffs after that start?

  19. Dustin Sharp says: Feb 11, 2010 11:27 AM

Holy Crap! The Broncos are for sale? I think Bowlen forgot to issue the press release.

All the negative and GHE bloggers (like faves.., mcflock, and hap) should get a life. Jealousy is the only reason they hate.
Good change came last year (all over) and the future looks great. Lets see what the second year brings.
I would love to have Mr. Bowlen stay and would not be upset to see Mr. Koenke buy the team. Seems like he has done pretty good for the Avalance and the Nuggets.

Cue the L.A. Broncos rumors in 3…2…1…

  22. Forevercorr says: Feb 11, 2010 12:00 PM

There is actually very little new to this rumor. With some various concerns of Bowlen’s health recently, the most persistent rumor has been that Kroenke and John Elway might each buy a large percentage of the team. Kroenke has expressed interest in the past, and after the Colorado Crush turned into such a failure, rumor had it that John turned his eye to a bigger prize. Who knows.
But I doubt anything will happen.

    bowlen is senile.
    Please sell the team.
He can’t even remember if he spoke to the face of the franchise about trading him or not.

Typical ignorant Denver fan believing Jay Cutler was ever the face/future of the franchise.
As a Raider fan we learn to forget the past failures, most Denver fans have to rehash the Cutler and McDaniels drama every time there’s a story about anything.
I wish McDaniels would get fired so these kids would just shut up. However, that’s just treating the symptoms not the source. The above moron will find the very next thing to complain about, provided that it’s not John Elway de-aging and coming back to play.

  26. TheWizard says: Feb 11, 2010 1:39 PM

We know Rush Limbaugh isn’t the PC choice to buy them.
Ok for “Pedophile Pete” Townshend to play the Super Bowl, though.
Gotta love the priorities of the NFL.

  28. Stone says: Feb 11, 2010 3:26 PM

Kroenke was a billionaire before he married his Walmart wife. No need for the snipes about his money.
