After flirting with receiver Matt Jones during the 2009 season, the Tennessee Titans have decided to give the 2005 first-round draft pick a shot at resurrecting his career.
According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, the Titans have offered a contract to Jones, a converted quarterback from Arkansas whose four-year stint with the Jaguars did not yield the results that the franchise had anticipated.
Jones also has visited with the Bengals. It’s unclear whether Cincinnati has made him an offer.
After a 2008 arrest for felony cocaine possession, Jones had the best year of his career, catching 65 passes for 761 yards in only 12 games. But he landed in jail for a week last year after violating the terms of his diversion program (he drank alcohol while golfing), and the Jaguars cut him loose.
The Titans gave Jones a tire-kicking in September, but no offer was made. As a member of a team’s offseason roster, he’ll have an opportunity to become fully involved in the playbook and the system his next team uses.
Still, after missing an entire year of football, it’ll be interesting to see whether the man we dubbed “Moonshine” given his resemblance to former teammate Nick Sorensen (who looks like “Sunshine” from Remember the Titans) has anything left in the tank.
Mike Brown the Redeemer at work
So, a four year QB from the SEC, big, strong, athletic was drafted early by the Jags.
But knowing he couldn’t play QB in the NFL, they chose to try him at another postion, and the whole experiment failed.
For Tim Tebow’s sake, I hope they haven’t learned from their mistakes.
how does a guy that was arrested for felony cocaine possession get ANOTHER opportunity to play football? ridiculous..
He visited the Bengals…. more likely there as a dealer than as a player
Look Matt Jones’s all the time that’s the problem…. maybe he should change his name to Matt Jones’d (as in past tense) and people would really believe he’s off the nose candy. Good potential WR too bad he’s pissed that yr+ away from the game. Cant fix stupid.
With his record, he’s perfect for the Bengals. I believe the Bengals team picture is still taken in front of the Cincinnati City Jail.
GO STEELERS!
Michael Irvin got three rings and a yellow HOF Jacket strung out on the powder. I don’t think it’s a longshot that Jones could be a productive #2 or 3 wideout. Vince could use another big receiver.

Please tell me you are joking….
It’s about time somebody signed this guy. He’s not a top 20 WR but he’s productive on a weekly basis. He will help this team.
If Polian had signed him instead of Baskett the Colts might have won the Super Bowl.
Let the insults fly.
good luck mattie- hoping for your redemption!
cincinnati city jail? maybe 3 or 4 years ago. nice try though, i’m pretty sure you’re the most clever person on the planet.
and thanks again for reminding me that i actually hate steelers fans more than steelers.
Cocaine isn’t that bad. It’s the fact he was dumb enough to risk his whole career to do it in a pkg lot.

Really? I guess Rey Maualuga didn’t get tossed in jail a couple of weeks ago. Same for Leon Hall in April 2009, who somehow gets away with reckless ops. Maybe Tank Johnson can find a way to be the next one on that list. And I guess the Chris Henry thing this year, despite the fact that no one was thrown in jail, wasn’t sketchy. Speaking of Henry, even had that not happened, dude was thrown in jail in April 2008, which isn’t exactly that long ago. Didn’t he get waived for his shitty behavior, and then got back with the team, anyhow?
Yeah, the Bengals have totally cleaned up their act.
Maybe dungy can pull few strings for him. O wait, he’s white. Nevermind.
