Vikings "disappointed" that McKinnie skipped Pro Bowl

Minnesota Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie said it was no big deal that he got kicked off the NFC Pro Bowl roster for skipping back-to-back practices.

But apparently it was a big deal to the Vikings.

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Vikings VP of Player Personnel Rick Spielman criticized McKinnie’s attitude toward the Pro Bowl during a question-and-answer session with Vikings fans on Saturday.

“To get an honor to go play in the Pro Bowl is something that’s unique, and something that should be cherished,” Spielman said. “It’s a privilege and honor to go there and play in a game like that, and I know from an organizational standpoint that we were disappointed, as well as a lot of our fans were, on how things turned out.”

It’s noteworthy that Spielman uses the word “we” and says he’s speaking “from an organizational standpoint,” suggesting that he’s not the only member of the Vikings organization who’s disappointed in McKinnie.

The bottom line is that players drop out of the Pro Bowl all the time, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. McKinnie did it the wrong way, and it’s not surprising that other members of the Vikings organization are disappointed in him.

“Disappointed?”, makes you wonder what word Rick Spermman would use to describe McKinnie wrapping a metal pipe around the head of a bouncer? or what word comes to his mind in describing McKinnie’s questionable eating habits on the Love Boat Cruise?
If the Vikings had any sense of dignity, they wouldn’t talk about it but rather do something meaningful to dissuade McKinnie from further bad behavior. But when your head coach is a part time chauffer & cross dresser (which is actually an improvement over the previous Superbowl ticket scalper) and the other Viking players on setting land speed records on the local highways (that is when they aren’t at home gift wrapping their toddler’s head in plastic wrap) or running over meter maids, its hard to single out McKinnie is being significantly worse than the rest of the team.
Is it any wonder that the state legislators are avoiding building a new stadium? They can lower the crime rate by shipping them out to LA.

Another story on the Vikings that has to deal with one of their players being a distraction? Wow. How many per day does the amount to now?
Seriously, though. I have never seen a team full of such drama queens. In fact, when they move to Los Angeles that could be their name. The LA Drama Queens. It’s perfect, as it is also a play on what will be their former name at that stage.

He was in a hurry to get to “The Love Boat” achored in the bay. Culpper had a bunch of “Hoes” line up.

McWimpie let all us Vike fans down with his Miami attitude. Fat ass turnstile should have never been in there to begin with. Farve put it all out there as did the rest of the team and coaches and this guy blows off a Pro Bowl? Should be fined a million bucks. Skol Vikings!

  5. leatherneck says: Feb 14, 2010 8:55 PM

Yes, McKinnie did not do the responsible thing that week.
He will, however, have a chance to right that wrong and shut up the critics in the 2010 season.

  6. GobiasINC_1 says: Feb 14, 2010 9:14 PM

Vikings fans are all about shutting up the critics. That’s what happens when their franchise cursed and you sell your soul to the gray-haired interception throwing machine. More and more critics.

As much as I look forward to and laugh at your word stylings, Jimmy Smith, I have to wonder if you have a life outside of PFT. The quickness and quantity of your posts makes me think you’re a plant.
And, Leatherneck, McKinnie has had four consecutive years to right the wrongs of the previous year and he hasn’t accomplished that goal yet – what makes you think this next year is going to be any different? You can’t fix stupid.

As a life long Vikings fan, I hope they draft a a tackle with their first pick. McKinnie has been an embarrassing underachiever his whole career.

As far as the pro-bowl goes? Who gives a shyt.
wtf does the pro-bowl mean these days anyways?
the pro-bowl is nothing more then Pee-Wee football on CBS.

  17. CanadianVikingFan says: Feb 15, 2010 2:58 AM

His attitude has been subpar, and the way he carries himself outside and on the field is kind of disgusting. We better start looking for a possible replacement for him (if the guys at the top decide we are a passing team now) and if this guy gets himself suspended or gets his ass dropped by the team someday. Clean your act up man!

  18. effs420 says: Feb 15, 2010 3:45 AM

look at all the pack fans making OLD jokes cus they’re still dealing with the pain of their team getting swept by a team that is so “obviously inferior” to them…gonna be a long off-season for you chumps eh?
it’s either make peanut gallery comments on here or drinking and beating their wives or dogs or boyfriends or whatever…so by all means use this as an outlet for your fat backwoods cheesy angst, it’s better than the alternative i suppose…
don’t be like the lunatic that choked his wife with a belt after they lost to the cardinals.
p.s. mckinnie isn’t worth the toilet paper he uses to wipe his fat ass

Bryant is a hero. He was selflessly protecting the NFC squad by making sure that he was not the 12th man in the huddle.

  20. sand0 says: Feb 15, 2010 8:38 AM

When Childress came to town, he cleared out all of the “bad apples”. I sometimes questioned that strategy because we have lost some good players over the years because they weren’t the right type of guys or whatever. I always felt like a good coach should be able to get guys to fall in line and not have to rely on them already having low profile personality.
But looking at how talented the team is now and how well behaved they are I really appreciate what they’ve done over the last 3 seasons. And the one bad apple they let stay around, for whatever reason, is still making negative news to this day. So yeah, maybe there is something to getting a collection of good guys together.
Maybe we should draft a tackle and let this guy go.

What hypocrites. Vikings fans stuffed theballot boxes to get their guys on the team, deserving or not (like McKinnie, not). Then when a player spits in the faces of all the guys who met their responsibilities to the fans, you make excuses. You two are sorry, sorry excuses for football fans.

I see the puker dopes are on here babbling about the vikings as usual. I did some homework this weekend and found out that the whole state of wisconsin was infected with the Black River Falls syndrome back in the late 1890’s. The smart ones (and the very few with any balls) swam across the river into Minnesota. The insane ones remain today. Just another reason why Wisconsin is jealous of Minnesota. As a reminder: I bet it also really sucks to have Favre (even at 40 years old) hand you your ass twice this year.

  24. marcduke says: Feb 15, 2010 10:22 AM

Don’t worry Rick, you won’t have to worry about Bryant disappointing you again.
He won’t get a sniff of the Pro Bowl the rest of his career.

“Disappointed” is not how the organization really feels, I’m sure. They’re more likely “pissed off “. The Vikings have one of the classiest owners in the League & it was surely a point of pride that they had so many players named “the best” this year. But that was quickly followed up by McKinnie’s boorish behavior. The team had worked its way out of the loveboat shame inch by inch, and in one fell swoop, Boob McKinnie bought ‘em right back. His actions, and good grief, his blockheaded comments, have embarrassed the owner, the team and its fans. Some kind of punishment is way past due. The LACK of any action is now beginning to give rise to its own insidious questions.

I agree. How is a post that articulate the first post? A rarity once, impossible twice. Good post though as is your post and astute observation.
McKinnie is not a good person. Period. The fact that he is not that good should be irrelevant in determining that but in this world talent supersedes all else.

This is typical Minnesota Viking behavior and is one of the many reasons this franchise has never won anything and in all liklihood…..never will. What a disgusting act of selfishness. Just disgusting.

Wrong on all counts, except perhaps the dumbass name thing. As usual, you’re claiming to have done things you’ve never done, like finding a hole in anybody’s game. And most obviously, we all post on here to be read and commented on. So the forum makes me the judge. Your shctick is attitude, and that’s cool. But if you’re going to post heavily, you need to try to be more clever. Otherwise, the rest of us will keep lighting you up.
