Ahman Green thinks he’ll be back in Green Bay

Ahman Green’s return to the Packers last season was a nice story, but one that was expected to have a limited shelf life. Green, however, thinks it may continue.

“I’m very happy to be back and the team was happy to have me back,” said Green in an interview with the Kenosha News. “It sounds like I’ll be back next season. I’m just getting myself in shape and getting ready for 2010.”

Green’s goals may be unrealistic. G.M. Ted Thompson was evasive when asked about Green possibly returning to the team. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, however, wrote he almost certainly won’t be back and the Green Bay Press-Gazette said his return looks “iffy at best.”

We suspect the Packers will have Green’s number handy in case of emergency, but that’s it. The team had a decent running game last year, but they should invest in some youth behind Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

That doesn’t leave much room for Green.
