Redskins promote head trainer, hire assistant to Shanahan

The Washington Redskins have continued to re-shape their coaching staff by promoting a trainer and hiring an assistant to head coach Mike Shanahan.

Larry Hess has been promoted to the position of the Redskins’ head athletic trainer. He spent the last four seasons as the team’s director of rehabilitation and four seasons before that as a physical therapist and assistant athletic trainer.

The Redskins also hired Paul Kelly with the title of Assistant to the Head Coach/Football Administration.

Kelly has previously served as an assistant to head coach Bill Callahan in Oakland, and Jon Gruden in both Oakland and Tampa Bay, with responsibilities including assisting in football operations, overseeing player and staff communications with the head coach and managing the football calendar.
