Stacy Andrews' options: Restructure or get cut

Philadelphia Eagles guard Stacy Andrews is coming off a disappointing 2009 season in which he started only two games and was inactive for most of the second half of the season while getting paid more than $5 million. So it’s no surprise that his options are either to take a pay cut or go elsewhere.

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that Andrews is owed a $4.1 million roster bonus in early April, and that multiple sources say there is little chance he will be back with the team unless he agrees to restructure his contract.

Although Andrews’ agent, Rich Moran, told the Daily News that the Eagles “never told me to either take a pay cut or Stacy will be released,” that is apparently exactly what they will tell Andrews at some point before that roster bonus comes due.

Andrews was still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee in 2009, and Eagles coach Andy Reid said Andrews’ disappointing performance was a result of that injury.

Andrews’ brother and Eagles teammate Shawn Andrews is apparently even less likely to be back with the team. Shawn Andrews has played only two games in the last two years, and folks in Philadelphia think Shawn Andrews doesn’t even want to play football.

Stacy Andrews does want to play, and the Eagles do want him. Just not for the kind of money his current contract pays him.

LOL!! Eagles. Where are all the dopey Eagles fans that were saying they were gonna have the best O’line in the league last year? No O’line…soon no QB. This team is going down the toilet. Love it.

    Chiefs could use him

  3. Mooch says: Feb 17, 2010 10:41 AM

When will the chatter start about us “hating” on the Andrews sisters for no reason?
Because, ya know, people in the city threw snowballs at Santa before most of the fan base was born.

stacy will either take a huge paycut or get cut, he did nothing last year, and shawn was hurt, he will get one more chance this training camp and if he blows it he will be cut

  5. Voxy Moron says: Feb 17, 2010 10:46 AM

last i heard from shawn was that he wants to play and is excited to come back

@ promin1: all those problems & the Eagles still made the playoffs. Hope you enjoyed the down season while it lasted……
If he’s hurt & can’t play – peace! Either that or take a paycut.

  7. Duck Fallas says: Feb 17, 2010 11:27 AM

Shawn wants to collect paychecks and goof off on twitter. No need for his distractions at training camp, its time to move on.

I told you Iggles fans last year that Stacy was overrated. He can’t pass block. Too inexperienced.

    @promin1
    Clearly, you’re “that guy”.

Considering how badly the Eagles O-line got hit with the injury bug last year, they performed remarkably well.
Starting Tackle S.Andrews lost for the season, replaced with a all but written off Winston Justice who played admirably in his place.
Stacy Andrews was slotted in at Guard but never played up to his billing. In his place, Nick Cole played well enough to earn a starting job in this league.
The other starting guard Todd Herremans missed the first 6 weeks of the season and Jason Peters battled injuries all season as well.
Considering all that, the Birds were still ranked as the 10th best offensive line in the league according to NFL.com.
Not too shabby for having the walking wounded and backups anchoring the line.

get him and his brother out of here!!!!!! one has not talent and one is the biggest softest waste of talent i have ever seen. when you are 400lbs of course you are going to have back problems suck it up and move on.

So the Bengals let this guy walk and everybody bad mouthed us. Bengals let Housh go and everybody bad mouthed us. Bengals let Shaun Smith go and everybody bad mouths us. Bengals let Willie Anderson go everybody bad mouthed us he played one year and retired. Here’s some props for the Bengals for finally making some personnel decisions that mattered.

People in Cincinnati told you that this guy was a lazy stiff as soon as they decided not to bring him back.

Eagles signed Stacy just 2 months after his ACL surgery. What did they expect? It takes 2 years to fully recover from that surgery. Wait until Eagles fans see Stewart Bradley next year looking like a bad 7th round draft pick.
All the Eagles have to do is look at the film of Max Jean Gilles during the last two Cowboys games for them to realize that they desperately need better interior line play. MJG is just a slow, flat footed fat guy. They have to do better than that.

  15. Strahan92 says: Feb 17, 2010 12:27 PM

They should sign the third Andrews brother, Tron.

  16. Mooch says: Feb 17, 2010 12:51 PM

Face it, the whole offseason plan was about getting some people in to hold Shawn Andrews’ hand and tell him he’s OK.
We signed his brother, who was coming off a terrible injury (not that this is abnormal, see: reagor, monte) and had never done much to distinguish himself in Cincy.
We signed his college roomate – Jason Peters – who whined and tanked his way out of Buffalo and then, during his first interview on WIP, admits that he didn’t play all that hard because he was unhappy with his money in Buffalo.
I wondered aloud if his Mom could kick FG’s from 40 yards out. At least we’d have filled a need there.
So, to a degree, Stacey was never signed to be a solid contributor on the field. He was a support system for our crazy RG.

“@ promin1: all those problems & the Eagles still made the playoffs.”
On a cupcake schedule. How many regular season games did the 0-3gles win against playoff teams? -0- in four tries.
“Hope you enjoyed the down season while it lasted……”
Hope you enjoyed the easy schedule while it lasted. Next season you got the Packers, Vikings and Colts. Those teams will give a straight-up beatdown to the 0-3gles simple because of the matchup problems. I don’t think you can realistically expect them to win more than one game out of four against the Cowboys and Giants but I’ll give them two anyway. Left over are the 49ers, Falcons, Texans, and Titans. I’ll be generous and give you three of those but they will drop at least one of the JAX/CHI/DET games.
If they make it to 9-7 it should be considered a monumental overachievement.

    44-6….just a crushing defeat!
Much how most of Dallas nation will be feeling when some other team wins a Super Bowl in their OWN house this year!

Interesting you brought up the Packers and Vikings. It’s a good thing the Cowboys did SO WELL against them this year. What were the scores of those games again?

Looks like Vox is still butthurt over that “fluke win” last year. It’s okay, Voxie. You still have that “wife” to spend time with.
Does she know you’re spending your Wednesday night making inane posts on PFT at 9:32 pm? Shouldn’t you be shaving her back hair or something?
    Ahahahahahaha!
