Stallworth signs with Ravens

Just nine days after being reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell from a one-year suspension, Donte’ Stallworth is back on an NFL roster.

PFT’s Mike Florio reports that the Ravens signed Stallworth to a one-year, $900,000 contract.  He can also earn up to $300,000 in playing time incentives.

SI’s Peter King first tweeted the news that Stallworth will sign, and we can confirm the deal is done.

It’s a low-risk, medium reward signing for the Ravens; they add a much-needed vertical threat for Joe Flacco.  Stallworth, always a well-liked member of the teams he’s played for, hinted at the move in a tweet to his brother late Tuesday.

I’m making moves mañana boi boi… I’ll let u know when it goes down,” Stallworth said.

It’s gone down.

I’m glad Mr. Stallworth can start taking steps towards getting his life back together.
I mean, playing for the Browns. What a down point in his life.

name the only NFL team now with 2 players on its roster who are ‘associated’ with the death of another human being.
    Yes the Baltimore Ravens!!!
I can honestly say i am glad i am not a season ticketholder and paying these 2. Forgiveness is one thing.
Letting someone go back to their normal life and start making millions (ok only 900K) again is a sad commentary on the NFL and Roger (shut up ive got a contract til 2015) Goodell.

As a Ravens fan, I’m pissed and disgusted beyond belief. I’d take ten TOs and a dozen Brandon Marshalls on this team before scum like this.
    Ugh.

and here come the murderer comments. remember people….. half the league has a DUI on record and Stallworth isn’t the only one whose accident resulted in death(Little).
also remember that both people involved in the accident were found to be at fault that’s why he only got 30 days in jail.

Too bad this isn’t John Stallworth you signed; he’d be a better option even though he is pushing 60.
I didn’t know the Ravens were desperate for WRs. Oh…..wait a minute. Never mind.
8-8 is looking a little too optimisitc for the crap birds.

  37. JustinG says: Feb 17, 2010 12:33 PM

This is a good fit. The Ravens haven’t ever had a vertical threat. Mark Clayton? Dimitri Williams? Horrible. Derrick Mason will be that much better with the speedy Stallworth darting down the field. Then again, the last time this fellow seemed to be any good at all was when he played for the Eagles for a year. That was… 3 years ago? 4?

“Another killer in Baltimore”, how is it I guessed verbatim what the first comment would be. Probably because most of the posters on here are fresh and witty constantly churning out funny, original comments. I expected it to be a Steelers fan though, but a Pats fan makes sense considering the Ravens “killed” their playoff hopes. And Don Fonzerelli, that comment doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I’m failing to make the connection between Stallworth and “drug town”, but nice use of parantheses doucherelli. And what drug-free slice of heaven are you from?

Hey Whines do you remember a game from the year before where Bart Scott knocked “Big Ben’s” helmet 5 rows back in the stands. I do, his helmet landed three rows behind me. That’s more like a raping. But to be fair, see what game clip you can find on YouTube. It gave us all a chance to see “Big(drama queen) Ben” limp off the field and whine about that injury for the next year and a half. Bigblue, I don’t confirm what Stallworth did, but don’t you have a reciever in jail that shot through his leg and just missed a crowd of people at the bottom of the stairs? So think before you post because he could have just as easily killed someone. If I was a Steeler fan I’d worry less about other people’s teams and more about how your team hates your quarterback, Mr Ben “no means yes” Rothlisberger.

Mr. Vick – How he got in this conversation, no clue. Yes he funded the Operation, INDIRECTLY! He really had no clue WHAT was going on behind the operation. He never visited or attended. It was a home he rented to family members.
Mr. Lewis – He never shot or killed ANYONE. It was a member of his party that got into fight and killed someone. That is why Ray got off. The family went after Ray for his money, PERIOD! He had nothing to do with incident. (and the family screwed themself by taking him to civil court and losing!)
Dante – Although TOTALLY wrong, Florida Law has rules against drinking. The man he hit was wrong also. Again, Dante was wrong, paid the price, moved on.

For those of you who want Brandon Marshall
According to Orlando-Orange County public records (case 48-2004-MM-012392-O), on Halloween 2004, while a student at UCF, Marshall was arrested in Orlando on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, refusal to obey, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
On January 1, 2007, Marshall was present at “The Shelter,” a nightclub in Denver, Colorado, along with teammates Javon Walker and Darrent Williams. The trio was attending a birthday party held for and by Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin. As the players were leaving the club in a limousine, Williams was fatally shot in the neck after an unknown assailant opened fire on the vehicle. Willie Clark was later charged with the murder.Walker has stated in interviews that the shooter was likely a nightclub patron whose motive was retaliation after being involved in an altercation with Marshall’s cousin earlier that night.
On March 26, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Highlands Ranch suburb of Denver on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that following a domestic dispute, Marshall prevented a taxi she was in from leaving his house. Charges from the incident were later dismissed on May 25, 2007, after Marshall completed anger management counseling.
In the early morning of October 22, 2007, Marshall was arrested in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area at the intersection of 14th and Blake St. for driving under the influence of alcohol. A trial was scheduled for September 16, but Marshall instead agreed to a plea bargain four days earlier; he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired. He was sentenced to one-year probation and 24 hours of community service.
On June 12, 2008, Marshall was ticketed for an illegal lane change, then found to be without his license and proof of insurance. The case was eventually dropped as part of a plea bargain for the October 22, 2007 driving incident involving alcohol.
According to an article published in the Rocky Mountain News on July 28, 2008, Douglas County deputies fielded “about 11″ calls to Marshall’s home since January 2006. The article stated that one call resulted in Marshall being arrested (the March 26, 2007 domestic dispute), and some did not involve him at all.
A September 17, 2008 article on CompleteColorado.com stated that the solicitor’s office in Fulton County, Georgia filed misdemeanor battery charges on September 10 for an alleged incident on March 4, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Marshall was booked on March 6, then released the next day after posting a $1,000 cash bond.[61] The case was assigned to Judge John Mather in Georgia state court.[62] On August 14, 2009, a jury in Atlanta found Marshall not guilty.[63]
On March 1, 2009, Marshall was arrested in Atlanta for disorderly conduct after allegedly being involved in a fight with his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell. Marshall was released on a $300 bond.[64] The charges were dropped the following day.[65]

Donte’s crime is one, that many of us, but for the grace of god could have committed!
The fact does remain that he has only had one stellar season, never starting 16 games, and only appearing in 16 games 3 times! But if he plays up to his potential, he could be an excellant pickup!

When asked to comment, prior Cochran client and past NFL great O.J. Simpson said “I like the clubs chances this year” he added that “it’s all about representation”
Cochran could not be reached for comment.

The man made several bad mistakes over the course of an evening. We can all admit that we’ve made mistakes. His just had bigger consequences, including taking the life of a firefighter, spending nearly a month in prison, committing 1,000 hours of his life to community service, and never being able to drive in his home state again. He will never be able to restore his image or make the kind of money he could have made if he’d kept his nose clean.
That said, I’m a firm believer in second chances. The man is a talented receiver who is a benefit on the field and in the locker room. He seems like a good fit for the Ravens, who need a receiver with good speed and hands to take over for Derrick Mason, whose skills were diminishing with every game in 2009.

Since “FAT” Ben is your QB, why don’t you and your girlfriend, er… your sister, invest in a Jenny Craig program for him since he’s looking more like Vince Wilfork than Joe Montana. Your O-line won’t be any better next year and FAT Ben is one knock on the head away from drooling into a bib for the rest of his life.
As to the Ravens finishing 8-8, why don’t you hope and pray that ‘The Hair’ doesn’t “tweak” his knee next year cause if that happens, your crappy D will be exposed for the chumps they are (and showed last year) will be lucky to get to 8-8!

Hey Ravens fans. Tell the truth: you’d ALL rather have Ben as your QB than the Unibrow Loser that you’re stuck with. Ben has two rings, and will have a third before the Ravens win another playoff game.
I would pretty much take a dive into the Potomac if I was a Ravens fan. That franchise is screwed
    ————
First off the Potomac is associated with DC and the terrible redskins. many skins fans have already jumped into the potomac. So your post is about as about as relative as saying when one of the steelers former lineman goes crazy from all the roids he did he should drive into the Potomac rather than just shoot guns out of his car and drink gasoline ! that’s a true story for those to young to remember and there’s more than just one.
Funny that you think the ravens fans would want a QB his own team can’t stand! I’d rather have the officials who work steelers games than rapistburger. they are definitely more valuable than big head.
If fatburger had half the injuries flacco had this year there would have been a redcross truck outside his house along with ed werder providing constant updates on his status. last but not least his big head forces him to rape women or get them to fix his tv whichever they are calling it in iron sh$&ty land these days.

I like seeing the guys who hink they’re clever crack stupid murder jokes. You guys are so original. And for the record, Stallworth did not intentionally go out saying hmm I wanna kill someone tonight. He drove home under the influence, and that’s why he was punished. He probably would’ve gotten off free if he had no alcohol in his system and still hit the guy. A random guy ran across the highway at 3:00 AM. I’m pretty sure most sober people would not see that. It was bad but give the guy a break. He has handled this well.

Dante is a good kid, Ray Lewis is a killer. Dante made a bad decision that led to an unintentional consequence that he never hid from. Lewis obfuscated the truth. To put them in the same basket is wholly wrong. Even if you don’t like what he did (all of you MADD freaks) it was still an accident and I don’t expect those of you that are Christians to forgive him. You only say that when it is expediant. Shut up and let him play, Gazelle.

Here’s some other “mad jokes”: Tomlin: 1 SB win in first 3 years as head coach and just getting started. Roethlisberger: top 5 QB in the league with 2 rings and 8-2 lifetime in the playoffs. Flacco: Best unibrow in the NFL Lewis: 2nd best murderer on the team. Harbaugh: barely even the 3rd best coach in his family. Now there’s some jokes!

  88. Bmored82 says: Feb 17, 2010 4:29 PM

There’s some jokes says Hamburghlar, nome of which are good. And I think all 31 other teams in the league can agree that the first ring is awfully suspect. How was Ben’s rating in that game? I believe it was one of the worst ever for a superbowl quarterback. In fact other than last year, how does his ratings stand up against “the top five qbs”? It was the defense that won that second ring and the refs that awarded them the first.

I will keep this in short sentences and use small words.
-If your ability to analyze the situation is limited to “he done kilt someone, goldurnit, he’s a murderer!”, you’re STUPID
-If you don’t understand that Stallworth got only 30 days because the DA knew they had no case and not because he is famous, you’re STUPID
-If you don’t understand that by legal definition, manslaughter is not murder, you’re STUPID
-If you don’t understand the difference between how Stallworth acted after his crime, taking responsibility and making restitution, and how Vick and for that matter Lewis did- lying to police and attempting to cover the crime up, you’re STUPID
-If you can’t see the difference between someone who is SLIGHTLY intoxicated (which is what .12 is for someone with the physical makeup and age of Stallworth) getting into an accident, and someone systematically torturing and executing animals for enjoyment and profit, you’re STUPID
-Finally, if you don’t understand that that Stallworth could easily have hired a high priced attorney and more than likely been acquitted of all charges given the flimsy evidence in this case, given the fact that the state would have had to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Stallworth’s intoxication CAUSED THE ACCIDENT, and that Stallworth actually did the honorable thing by pleading guilty and paying the family, you’re STUPID

When you make a poor decision like drinking and then driving, then hitting a tree is a forgivable but to go get fuc_ed up then hit a PERSON and kill them is not so forgivable. It turns a poor decision to a life changing one particularly the family of the man killed. Had it been your “random” Dad or Mom or child that ran across a dark roadway and was then killed by a drunk would you be quite as forgiving?? And yes I have made poor decisions, and NO not drunk driving. I made a choice not do that EVER, way before MADD made it popular but stemming from tragedy. So to recap………………………….. a bad decision that does not victimize anyone, no big deal. A bad decision that kills someone HUGE DEAL. He deserves the ridicule, at least he is alive to be ridiculed!

If he is truly sorry; If he is sincere in changing his life, can he not make a difference in trying to make amends by being an NFL player in some kind of a spotlight and doing what he can to guide other people into being more responsible that he was?
I mean what else can the guy do?

  98. Blitzburgh says: Feb 17, 2010 7:04 PM

I understand what’s done is done, and there is nothing else Stallworth can really do. He screwed up and it’s out there. I’ve done dumb things and have family and friends still bust my chops 20 years later. So he will never get away from it, just like Lewis.
The fact of the matter is that Stallworth (like it or not) is a public figure and for the privelige of getting to play a kids game and make millions doing it you must live under the microscope. When you screw up big-time it gets magnified big time that’s the nature of the beast when you live in the spotlight.
So if he is truly sorry and sincere, all he can do is keep on keepin on, but being sincerly sorry does not erase misdeeds. I screw up I live with it, he must do the same. Sooner or later the fervor will ease up and the next whipping boy will stand in line. Should he pay forever? probably not but I think what upsets a lot of people is the sentence he got, if the average guy on the block does that you can bet your ass he does not get 30 days and 1000 hrs of community service. Hell, the guy that stole Lance Armstrongs practice bike last summer got 4 years in the pen. Certainly not equitable.

Also, he is not getting paid 900 000 because he killed someone, he went back to work after serving the time given to him by the court system of America, it just so happens that his job (which anyone who complains about the pay obviously cannot do, or even understand how hard work it is), has a minimum pay for players….Its not like the NFL can say, ahhh so you messed up, I’ll give you 8 bucks an hour to come back to work.

This has absolutely nothing to do with moral outrage, despite protestations to the contrary, and just reinforces my belief in the 2% rule, which states that only about 2% of the general public is smarter than a random inanimate object.

Nobody here is saying their lives are mistake-free. It’s just that very few people here, or in the general public, have made a mistake that costs someone else their life. Forgetting to pick up milk is a little mistake. Drowning yourself in tequila and sparking a little bud right before you go speeding in your Bentley, only to slam into a pedestrian is a big mistake. One deserves very little criticism, and the other deserves a lifetime of criticism. See the difference?
And don’t get me wrong. I think the Ravens are, and always have been, a solid team. And I used to think Stallworth was a solid player, but I am entitled to change my opinion based on the fact that it’s abundantly obvious that he’s a moron.

It’s hard to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person, so go back to the internets and do your research. You’ll see that Ben’s stats are great, but it’s what he does to win games and CHAMPIONSHIPS that makes him better than 95% of the QB’s in the NFL. And that, my friend, is why the Steelers will always come out on top (and higher than Baltimore).

Add the two first-round playoff defeats that he’s had as Cowboys quarterback, and we sense either a horrible trend or some cosmic coincidence. The man has never won a playoff game in his life. Am I the only one that seems concerned about that?”
But of course, that was written before this past year’s awesome wild card win (and loss in the next round).
